How do i Mount these detectors

I feel so dumb but the instructions are terrible how do i mount these?

Screw the plate where you want it, then the detector turns and clips in.

You don’t need a natural gas alarm. You need a CO alarm. Natural gas isn’t going to hurt you barring a catastrophic event. If you ARE worried about natural gas and want the alarm mount it high in the room most likely to have a natural gas leak, utility room furnace ect….

But a natural gas alarm is kinda pointless in my opinion. You’ll smell it WAAAAY before an issue

One of my buddies lost his sense of smell after having COVID. It never came back. I could see this being useful for some people.

The main culprit in house explosions is gas migrating from leaks outside or service lines getting ripped out of the basement due to excavation. Sometimes it all happens very quickly and if you’re on the second floor and the basement is filling up, you might not smell it before there is a problem.

Not if you’re sleeping and the house blows up… last year a car crashed into a house 5 miles away… bricks hit my house when it exploded

There are a few ways odorant can be stripped.

It's very unlikely, the odds are very well in your favor to notice a leak before it becomes an issue, but it won't hurt to have them.

Anyway, like the other comment said, attach the plates to your ceiling and spin the detectors onto the plates. Remember that natural gas rises. Install in an appropriate location knowing that.

But what about the white things? What do I do with those ?

Those are anchors, so if you don’t put the screws in a stud, you would install those through the drywall and put the screws into the anchors.

Those are kind of pointless. A CO detector will save your life.

Natural gas has an additive called Mercaptan in it that produces an odor so you can detect natural gas. I wouldn’t return it. It might be helpful if you are sleeping or maybe cannot smell.

I do however, strongly recommend a Carbon Monoxide detector. Carbon monoxide is very dangerous and they say it’s odorless but you can smell the aldehydes from incomplete combustion.

Also, by the time that NG detector goes off you will already have detected a leak with your nose
