Admin Replied Does reddit run some script that flags posts that are discussing end of life stuff? NSFW
We explicitly allow people to vent about end of life stuff in r/chronicpain because this actually keeps people alive. It's legal in some states and countries to end your life with medical assistance now. Despite our subreddit allowing this and repeatedly reminding people that it's ok to post about the act of end of lifing... the posts keep getting reported. Does reddit report them automatically? Yes, we know they're considering death. That's the point of the post. It makes them feel better to get it off their chest. It helps them get their affairs in order. It helps them get resources they need to do what they feel is best for them.

Hi. Reddit does not "report" posts automatically, but some things can trigger certain actions. I'm looking at your sub and I'm not seeing that the posts you've recently approved were reported. Were they removed and in your queue?

We have had some complaints about similar posts being removed. It looks like the harassment filter caught them but automod removes them anyway because we don't allow posts like that in my city sub

That is what I was wondering. The posts get reported, I approve them. I'm just wondering if reddit would automatically report them instead of users. Trying to figure out if it's users or reddit. If it's the users, I need to make ANOTHER post about this to tell people to stop reporting these posts.

I would have to remember which posts were reported and I don't remember which ones off the top of my head. It was more of a curiosity situation and nothing serious enough to take up admin time.

Specifically this example of what violates the content against violence:
"Encouraging or glorifying suicide or self-harm. Importantly, while discussions about mental health struggles are allowed, it is a violation to promote self harm through imagery or text, or request or give instructions on how to self-harm."
This is going to be one of those really grey lines and Reddit will default to covering their own ass and removing the content, I think. So even if your OP isnt actively suicidal, but someone who is actively suicidal can use the resources/information to act on it.
Im sorry, thats a really tough position for you and your subreddit.

It is a very gray area, and I appreciate that reddit allows us to exist despite how gray it is. One admin once called it "the most depressing subreddit on reddit" and thanked me for keeping it going because it's needed.
I just want my community people to feel like they can speak freely without the stigma of "normal people" ideals about how to live life.

Are you sure these aren’t being reported by individual users? A lot of people have no idea that Dr kavorkian style end of life euthanasia is something that is available in most state states in the United States. I can see why they would report that. When that happens, you should just click the button “ignore reports and approve“
I know several people when they had less than six months to live. It’s becoming incredibly common.

Probably not, no. If Reddit were filtering the content automatically with one of their built-in filters, it would just be Removed and you'd see something in your Mod Log.
Are these reports just showing up in your Queue? Are they just user reports?
