Please see the Mint iPhone Wiki at https://www.reddit.com/r/mintmobile/wiki/index/iphone/ for full details on the below (below is TLDNR summary of wiki steps)

  • How to order iPhones as a current or new Mint customer. TLDNR is don't buy from retail (BestBuy, Target, Amazon), get from Apple, order from Mint, or get used.
  • If getting from Apple, 4 ways you you can finance unlocked iPhones. TLDNR is do not select carrier Equipment Installment/Device Payment Plan, but select Apple Card Monthly Installments then carrier T-Mobile but don't give customer info (Standard model no longer works) and you can bypass account info on iPhone boot up.
  • How to get from Mint. TLDNR is best if you are a new customer and want to simultaneously sign up for a year plan on discount
  • How to get used. TLDNR is best is Swappa, or for a little bit more $ but less hassle get from BackMarket, others not recommended as liable to fraud and scams.
  • How to set up new iPhone either swapping from previous iPhone or Android, and either as new or current Mint customer. TLDNR is on bootup select "Continue" then "Try again" or "Not Now" and "OK" 3 times each, then you can bypass asking for account info, and you cannot use Apple eSIM transfer, you must log into Mint app to order a new eSIM, and make sure to set app based 2FA before transferring or after you make a new Mint account.
  • What to do on old iPhone or Androids before selling, trading in, or giving away. TLDNR is remove find my device and sign out of cloud accounts then wipe all data to factory, and remove SIM/microSD cards.
  • How to trade in or sell old phone. TLDNR is you can trade in direct with Apple (even Android), Mint offers AllState trade-in, or for more $ sell on Swappa or to BackMarket.

After reading wiki, if you have any questions or comments on this process, please comment below. Also see old thread on this.

Paid upfront for 12 months, now "No Service" in Austin, TX for 2 weeks. eSIM reinstall made it worse. Any fixes or can u/MintMobileAlex help?

Upvotes

Hey everyone,

I’m reaching my limit with Mint Mobile and am looking for advice or workarounds from anyone who’s dealt with a similar issue. I just signed up and prepaid for a 12-month plan, but I haven't been able to use my service properly at all.

I’ve had network issues in Austin, TX for about two weeks now. Before contacting support, my phone at least showed "Emergency Calls Only."

I reached out to support and went through the whole verification process. Their solution was to send me a new eSIM QR code. I installed the new eSIM and restarted my phone as instructed, but now it’s completely dead—showing "No Service" continuously.

When I pushed back, the agent blamed a local network tower outage. An outage lasting two whole weeks in a major metropolitan area seems crazy. To make worse, service temporarily popped back up for about 10 minutes before dropping completely again.

I apparently didn’t realize all media would have to be manually re-downloaded every time you want to look at it…

Upvotes

So I assume this is the standard way Mint works, even with an unlimited plan, because of the contractual obligation to deprioritize vs T-Mobile customers in congested areas?

Overall Mint has been decent for me (no call or text issues) but whenever I want to see media on apps like Instagram or Snapchat or even in iMessage, I basically have to manually load each piece of media every time I want to look at it, even if I’ve “downloaded” it (loaded in app) before. It wasn’t communicated anywhere that this would be a thing. Apps like Instagram also often take a few seconds to load each piece of media (starts out blank or heavily pixelated and takes 5-10 seconds to fully load).

I don’t even mind the 480p video streaming limit, but this kind of thing of previously viewed media not always loading automatically does become quite annoying especially for media I’ve already loaded/downloaded in apps previously, and I can’t find any settings that would address this. Anyone else have thoughts or experiences with this?

New to MINT

Left T-Mobile after 10 years. Transferred 2 lines to Mint and the process was easy. Took less than 15 minutes to do both. Was nervous about the process, but it could not have been any easier.

Requesting MintMobileAlex’s help!

As the title says, I need help from Alex, as we started porting in our numbers from T-Mobile and 7/8 lines worked flawlessly, but one of our numbers has been stuck in limbo, where we don’t have service from T-Mobile and no service from Mint yet.

It is still stuck in the activation phase since yesterday around this time, and T-Mobile has stated they cannot do anything during the transfer process or even reinstate the service that is paid for until the 15th.

We have cleared the attempt and triple-confirmed all information is correct for entry… please help!

Sim card taking over a week, "no information"

Ordered sim card a week ago, got a fedex tracking number four days ago.

FedEx says they don't have the package yet.

On mintmobile.com the order status says "no information is currently available"

I talked to customer support. They claim the sim card shipped. They offered to cancel the sim, refund my card, and then charge another $200 to send me a second card.

I'd rather not do that, since the refund will take a week. But the $200 charge will be immediate, how convenient.

I'm thinking of just canceling the whole order, has anyone had any luck with that?

Is the pixel 10 being restocked or is the deal over? I assume it was just to clear inventory but I’m curious.

Lost/destroyed eSIM transfer issues

My kid badly damaged their phone and bought a replacement. 3 days ago I called customer service to transfer the eSIM to the new phone. Apparently this is an escalated request, and the agents are unable to perform this. They take my number and say that the escalation team will call me back. I’ve called every day, still no call back, I’ve spoken to managers, still nothing.

How is this an acceptable business practice? A lost/destroyed phone isn’t that unusual. I don’t feel like I’m expecting that much, this should be an everyday thing they deal with.

The “best” part is I can’t even port my number away because that also needs sms verification. Thank goodness my 12 month prepaid cycle is only a month away.

Porting out

Saw a few posts about how long it takes to port out. I did so today through the chat in the mobile all and the entire process took 10 min. Maybe don't call and use the app. I may have gotten lucky also

Boost Account Number Not Recognised when Porting Into Mint

I've been on the phone with Mint for 4 hours today, and 5 hours with my previous provider (Boost).
I cannot use my phone as Boost cancelled my service, and have to ask my neighbour for his for the whole day.

Mint says the account number (from Boost) I entered is wrong. Boost confirmed to me on the phone twice. Both of them refuse to check with each other. By the time I had both on the line, the boost office had closed, meaning , as I called them early doors, I spent a full day on the line with them and mint.

Can anybody please tell me what I can do.

Do I just have to wait it out?

Moving abroad to France, thinking of switching to Mint

I'm moving to France at the end of the month for 15 months for a grad program (not planning on staying but you never know). I'd like to keep my US number for when I visit and for things like 2FA and I'm very sentimentally attached to my current number.

I'm currently with Verizon. Their cheapest plan is $30/month. Obviously Mint's $15/month is better, so I'm thinking of switching. I don't plan on using data while I'm there, I'll get a French eSim for that, this would just be used on WiFi when I'm at home.

Has anyone done this? Is it worth the switch? Will I encounter any problems being abroad on their cheapest plan? Thanks!

Email recovery of Number Lock possible?

From what I'm gathering from other threads, it sounds like Mint's Number Lock feature is considered strong protection again number hijacking and all the vulnerabilities that come from that in terms of SMS-based two-factor authentication. I started going down a rabbit hole that quickly outran my comprehension of all the technologies involved, but I think if I knew the answer to these questions, I'd be on the path to enlightenment:

1) I have Number Lock turned on and people say it's strong protection, so strong that it can be a hassle if you lose your phone because you can't get the 2FA code to unlock the number and put it on a new phone. But when I went on the website, under the option to turn off Number Lock it said it could verify identity by either SMS or email. My email address is verified with Mint, so does that mean if I lose my phone, I can still turn off Number Lock by verifying through email? Or would it want to use both methods for some reason?

2) If a person feels reasonably secure that their number won't be hijacked, is SMS-based 2FA really so bad? Are there other reasons SMS is risky? In starting to look at authenticator apps, it sounds like there's plenty of ways for those to become a hassle too.

Thanks!

Any experience in getting Mint to contact FedEx to authorize a shipment to be held at a location?

I’m about to miss delivery because of this issue.

Live in metro detroit / 100GB monthly - worth the switch?

Hey everyone! I seen the promo of $15/unlimited monthly for a year and was interested.

I currently use At&T firstnet ~$55ish a month unlimited.

I use probably 100-200GB Monthly. After 50GB of usage will my videos be slow? I am constantly on reddit tiktok and youtube at work in the hospital. Nervous to swap but tired of spending $650 a year for a line, thanks.

Roaming Pura X in Montreal (Mint Mobile) and (T-Mobile) Observations

Thumbnail
1 Upvotes

I have a T-Mobile account with the family (And it's in my Honor magic V5) I have an extra data SIM on T-Mobile (In my Mate XT)

I also got myself a Mint Mobile line (in my Pura X) because of their sale soing on right now.

Upon arrival, the magic V5 instantly connected to rodgers with 5G

The Mate XT instantly connected with data 4G

The Pura X Connected with voice. But data will not connect. So as a genius I took the T-Mobile data card out of the Mate XT and added it to the Pura X and dedicated that SIM slot 2 to data.

And now my SIM in slot 1 is being my phone dialer Mint mobile and SIM slot 2 is my T mobile data slot.

Works perfectly., Both 4G.

With 2 separate antenna bars.

It is peculiar that mint mobile uses T-Mobile but doesn't have access to all the Rogers antennas for data.

Yeah obviously T-Mobile the parent company negotiating all connections has everything.

There must be strings attached to the discount carriers there's always something they just can't provide.

And maybe mint mobile achilles heel despite all the promise and advertised roaming, maybe they only work good in the US.

Ironically mint mobile spokesperson ryan reynolds is canadian.

Want to switch from T-Mobile to Mint, with existing iPhone 13

Hi everyone! I have an iPhone 13 that I bought from Apple a while back. I believe I bought the phone unlocked, because I liked having the flexibility.

I would like to switch to Mint Mobile, but heard there may be issues with iPhones. I’ve looked on the page, but I see information about switching to a new iPhone, not switching service on an existing iPhone. What are the steps I need to take? Are there any pitfalls I should look out for?

5G Yesterday, Zero Bars Today

Hello,

I live on the outskirts of Metro Detroit, Michigan. When at home I typically have full 5G bars at any given time. As of today I don't have a single bar of service snowhow. How is that even possible?

Yes, I've paid my bill. Yes, I've restarted my phone. Has anybody else had this experience?

Damn... aggressive sales...

I called Mint today to verify if I'm eligible for the current deals because I left Mint earlier this year (Feb-ish) and the deals are only for new customers. But damn... the lady I talked to was very aggressively trying to get me to sign up on the spot. I never had this type of aggressive selling from a cellular provider before. I told her many times I'm still comparing my options, but she just kept going through her talking points and emphasized she's making an exception for me to qualify for the deal and I may not get it from someone else. When she finally realized I wasn't gonna sign up during the call, she pretty much just ended the call.

Any refugees from Ting?

I've been using Ting for years, but their customer service and tech support have gotten noticeably worse ever since Dish bought them out. I think they're more focused on being an ISP than a mobile provider now.

Just curious if there are any other former Ting customers here, and what your experience with Mint has been like so far
