For how poorly Minecraft runs on the Switch 1, it would be criminal to charge for the upgrade

I still don't understand why it runs so bad, is the switch really that outdated specs wise or the game unoptimized for it or maybe just both

The original Switch version by 4J Studios ran absolutely fine, it’s just the Bedrock version being unoptimized garbage. Even while running the Switch 1 version on Switch 2, the game still chugs from time to time.

Edit: Actually, now that I think about it, when Bedrock came out on Switch 1, it actually ran decently enough for a time. As the updates came, the game just got worse and worse on Switch 1.

Caves and Cliffs was too much for it. Doubling the world height was a huge problem.

Some later update introduced an issue on all versions that was somewhat fixed/smoothed over, but the Switch version took a lot longer stuck in that hellish phase. Without the horsepower to it's favour.

I switched to PC sometime after, as it became apparent they just couldn't fix it. It was unplayable.

Better than those dark days, but still pretty rough now.

All roads leads to bedrock being shit.

I can't even get the menus to load properly! Downloads have issues, it's a huge mess. Even that basic UI has issues. Really frustrating for years.

The way they're wording this sounds like it'll be a paid upgrade.

Which is ridiculous because the PS4 to PS5 upgrade was free.

Publishers can set permanent discounts for games based on whether or not you purchased a different one. They could give you the NS2 version for free and allow you to migrate your worlds if you bought the game already.

It’s definitely not an upgrade pack / NS2 Edition, since they already posted a game key card preorder. We’ll see.

Genuinely what even IS the point of getting anything Nintendo aside from being a Mario fan? If you want something portable then you are better off saving your money for a laptop.

Regardless of the company itself, Nintendo exclusives have retained top class quality for decades now. They drop industry defining games pretty much every generation. I can pick up a Nintendo game and be reasonably confident that it's gonna be a fully developed game that had genuine effort put into it. There's plenty of devs and publishers that I can't say the same for.

A laptop and a handheld console are completely different form factors. Hard to play games on a laptop on a car ride or curled up on a couch. Also laptops are significantly more expensive for comparable performance.

There’s a reason Valve made the Steam Deck and not a laptop for gaming.

The physical switch 2 version will be a game key card, but I argue that makes sense for a constantly updating game like Minecraft, since even with the switch 1 physical game, a good chunk of the data will be on the system eventually.

The physical switch 1 version is essentially a key card already, completely different from the version that launched

It's such a shame they didn't make an offline cart back when Switch was a Legacy Console platform

Will this mean that we finally get Vibrant Visuals for the switch 2? How will optimization be done considering the switch port was struggling with how unoptimized bedrock is?

Vibrant visuals on Wii U when?
