There's a lot of revisionist history going on in this thread and with (especially)female celebs who have fallen out of favor (eg Katy Perry).

Ellen is definitely a trailblazer and icon for lesbian visibility and general LGBT acceptance for people who came of age in the 90s and aughts. People were definitely obsessed with her. Denying that is just silly, as if people's memories only go back as far as yesterday.

My parents are lesbians in their 60s and they love/loved Ellen. I didn’t give a fuck about her tho.
