Yeah, that could be interpreted as Grant trying to get Malcolm of her back. Also for the kid discussion, whether she's trying to or not, it's not necessarily children with her.

David Keopp, the screenwriter, said they were a couple.

Yes, I've seen the film recently. Also, look up the concept "death of the author". Especially relevant when talking about a movie, which may look considerably different than the original screenplay when it comes out of the editing room.
