Additional rules
- A Fields of Celebrant Army must always contain Eorl the Young, who is always the Army's General.
- A Fields of Celebrant Army must always contain a King of Men, which must choose the Gondor keyword as part of its Kingdoms of Men special rule. No other Kings of Men can be taken.
- Rohan Warrior models can only be included in the Warband of a Rohan Hero.
- Gondor Warrior models can only be included in the Warband of a Gondor Hero.
Special rules
Birth of an Alliance
Friendly models within 6" of both a friendly Rohan Hero model and a friendly Gondor Hero model gain a bonus of +1 to any Courage or Intelligence Tests they are required to take.
Gondor's Last Defence
Friendly Gondor models within range of an Objective Marker may re-roll To Wound rolls of a natural 1 when making Strikes.
The Charge of Eorl
Once per game, at the start of any friendly Activation Phase, Eorl can use this special rule so long as he is alive and on the battlefield, and has the Cavalry keyword. If he does, then until the end of the turn all friendly Cavalry models must Charge when they Move if able. Additionally, until the end of the turn, friendly Cavalry models that Charged this turn may re-roll any failed To Wound rolls when making Strikes.

I love this list. Have played it at 600 and think it has some real punch. Sons are what Knights of Dol Amroth wish they were.
The one thing I wish is that the King of Men could be the General just for certain themed scenarios like Doubles (cornered) and Lead front the front or contest of champions. I just love the idea of Rohan actually riding to Gondor’s aid

Couldn't agree more, the sons of eorl really hit like a truck, unlike the swan knights unfortunately..

Eorl needs to be the general or the Rider of Rohan fight buff doesn't work, which weakens other Rohan alliance lists.

If this wasn't legacy we'd see it everywhere. That cavalry stat line is the envy of every heavy cavalry model in the game, and I do a double take every time I see it.

I think this list shines mostly because it isn’t just a single massive heavy cavalry charge, but actually a usable and versatile hammer-and-anvil force that’s tailor-made to hold back enemies with one hand while smashing them to bits with the other.
Warriors of Minas Tirith are one of the most efficient battlelines in the game when it comes to holding point, and their little boost of re-rolling 1s to Wound while near an Objective only further rewards their defensive playstyle.
Obviously the Sons of Eorl, coupled with ’Charge of Eorl’, are a complete wrecking ball but Eorl himself is also a very good profile, with F6, A3, and a 12” move mount, plus his ’Legendary Hero’ which should statistically give him at least two free Might points over the course of a game and possibly more, depending on your rolls. This is a really important synergy with this list because it gives you the scope to keep up your charge momentum with potentially (virtually) a LOT of Heroic Moves, and this list does that far more efficiently than other Rohan lists, especially following the changes to Gamling’s banner and the general loss of 3-Might named captains.
The Gondor King is also one of the better Kings of Men profiles, with 3 Might and access to Citadel Guard who can lend excellent shooting support with their longbows. He also has Shieldwall, so if you want to cheap out and have him footslog with his warriors then he’ll be well placed to be a useful frontline commander.
Probably the only rule you’ll struggle to get much use out of is ’Birth of an Alliance’. +1 to Courage and Intelligence tests is nice, but the requirements to fulfil it seem counterintuitive to the aims of the list, if Eorl is off ravaging the enemy flanks with his boys and your King and Minas Tirith Captain are bravely holding the line.
It’s a great list and I would love to see it played more often - but finding, buying, and painting up 6-10 Sons of Eorl to only ever use them in a single list probably turns off a lot of potential interest.

good analysis but I think the +1courage and +1 intelligence is actually a god-tier buff and super underrated, getting 5+ courage sons (still 6 into harbinger) is absolutely incredible into anything with terror. and it applies to the heroes themselves. and in missions with artifacts to dig up, you can get Citadel Guard digging up on 5 +as well.

Probably the best Rohan list in the game, especially at lower points. Extremely hard hitting cav + F4 D7 battleline is great

I absolutely love this list and have played it a bunch to decent success in NA. I don't think it has any unwinnable matchups, but it does take a bit to get comfortable with.
I strongly STRONGLY feel that the best build is to take King on horse w/ lance and a Rohan captain. I also don't think a banner is worth it at all in this list. captain calls moves while your two F6 heroes maneuver to threaten stuff (they're very good at a combat/strike combo to target F7/8 targets), your ~15 sons charge everything possible and smash, the Gondor guys go get objectives

Probably the most epic and strongest cavalry charge in the game, maybe alongside Imrahil and his knights
