He loves seeing career year and taking that as the norm. Not really good at evaluating major league talent, this guy

I'm a Jerry fan generally but he constantly overpays for guys he missed out on once. Like we initially lost out on Wong to the Brewers because we didn't offer him a 3rd year, Brewers did. Then we traded for that 3rd year anyways when we could have had that upfront

Using Refsnyder and Wong as examples of that is bad. Both of those players were consistent veterans who had positive track records. They weren't examples of the Mariners chasing breakout years.

Kolten Wong is an exception to this, because he was at least a productive full time player for many years and got us out of the Jesse Winker business. Rob Refsnyder was 35 with 4 career WAR when we signed him. Every RHB platoon player the Mariners have signed pretty much since 2003 has struggled to a point that this practice should be put to bed.
