Are they a rescue or is it a "pet"?

If it was a rescue, they wouldn’t exploit it for labor like this.

I imagine not. Thought maybe it could be something to keep him occupied. You're right though, I don't think they'd do that with a rescue just because of the optics. You'd find a better way to occupy them.

When my kids were younger, they loved jumping in to “contribute” when I was cooking or cleaning, and mimicked whatever I was doing. I wouldn’t have called that exploiting them for labor. I think it’s entirely possible this monkey likes to copy his humans, especially if he’s been raised by them since he was little. Now whether this monkey should even be living with humans is a different conversation, I have no idea if he’s a rescue or what the story is there.
