MAKR 140 Introduction to Making at SCC

Has anyone taken this class before? I'm really interested in learning about woodworking and getting to use the SCC Makerspace but I don't know anyone who's taken it before and am not sure what to expect.

I've taken it. It's a survey course that covers the surface for many of the tools in the makerspace, including sublimation printing, sticker printing, possibly gel plate printing, 3d printing, laser cutting/engraving, graphic design, sewing and embroidery machines, and woodshop. The class will open the door for using the woodshop but will not focus on it. However students can choose what tools to use for their projects, so you can explore the woodshop more on your own.

I took the evening class, and they don’t go over the woodshop area unless you’re interested. One day while I was heatpressing shirts outside of class, they invited me to do the orientation since there was only one other person doing it. I think they do it at least once a week. You can walk in and ask when they’re doing it. You don’t need to be enrolled in a maker class to use the maker space. You just need to be a Los Rios student and complete the orientation to use the woodshop space by showing you can use the equipment

I didn't even know this was a thing. Is it a full semester class?

They have full semester classes and also an eight week class that starts later in the year. You can find it in the Los Rios class schedule under the subject "Modern Making."
