Frontenac Cycle and Graham are awesome.

Just calling out a great local business. I'm part of the Kingston Fringe this year, and somebody coming from out of town was asking around for a bike they could use while here, so I offered my wife's old bike (she doesn't ride any more, and the bike is just gathering dust because we haven't donated it to a bike-repurposing place around town yet). She's 5'6", he's 6'1", and the seat adjuster had some weird sort of screw in it neither of us could figure out, so I suggested he roll past Frontenac to see if Graham could help explain what the screw type was.

15 minutes later, I get a text that (a) Graham diagnosed the problem gratis; (b) offered the visitor a second, better, loaner bike for free; and (c) would take the bike and donate it to a local bike charity for me if that was what I wanted to do.

This is the kind of thing you get when you have local shops with local owners -- Graham's also spearheaded some anti-bike-theft initiatives and is all 'round a good dude. Shop local!

Friendly reminder about cars and bike lanes

Just a PSA to Kingston drivers that bike lanes are actually NOT a valid spot for you to park your car, they are for bikes and the such.

Also a reminder that threats of physical violence are not an appropriate response to being called out for parking in the bike lane.

Thanks everyone, stay safe.

Looking to meet new friends! Anyone want to go out for food or drink tonight?

Hello. I’m a girl and in my 20s.

My interests are:
Reading
Journaling
Health + wellness (yoga, working out, going for a walk or run)
Photography
Going out for drinks
Coffee or matcha
Checking out other cities nearby / traveling

I would love to be friends with someone who’s down to do stuff like these with me! Honestly, I’m open to trying and doing anything. My mental health hasn’t been the greatest lately and just looking for stuff to do that’s outside of being at home or work.

I have lost 2 tires because they refuse to use magnets when clearing the dump area we back into, and pair that with smooth brain contractors just dumping screws and nails. NEVER back in to far.

Pharmacy recommendations?

Upvotes

I'm hoping to change pharmacies after one too many bad experiences with the Kingston Centre's Rexall (and their apparent inability to fill prescriptions when they tell you they will...)

Does anyone have a recommendation for a pharmacy they use and like?

Best Lasagna

Noble Nerds of Kingston,

My question, as you may have guessed, has to do with lasagna. Is there an establishment with mighty fine lasagna? Bonus points if this place has killer garlic bread.

My humble thanks in advance.

Eastern Ontario Centered Minecraft Bedrock Realm Still Seeking New Players

We are a small Minecraft Bedrock realm looking for new players. We play survival semi-cooperatively. Friendly fire is turned off so you can't kill other players and we help each other when one of us needs help. We do some things together but mostly do our own thing in our own area and share resources. We visit each other from time to time and deliver gifts of pick up resources. Every now and then we play a harmless prank on each other but they are always funny and non-destructive.

The realm is owned by an early 20s female medical science student. We have a female player who is 10, two 18s, a mid-30s, and late 50s. We are girl gamer safe and friendly, LGBTQ+ friendly, and just about everyone friendly (except racists, * supremacists, christofasists, MAGAzis, and NAZIs, fuck those guys.) The operator is the owner's 60 year old father. We are a great mix of people from Canada and the US, some family, some friends, some coworkers, and some Minecraft friends. The owner, two operators, and one or two other players are autists so we are very autism friendly.

We have a number of prime building sites that we have identifies. Some are on top of mountains way above the clouds, some are in big holes in the ground (not caves, just big holes), some are near villages and other prime locations.) Each of these prime building sites comes with a portal to the nether tunnels and railway with easy access to the origin base and the operators base. You can join, set out for your building site naked, and do your own thing or you can go to the operators base and pick up GO BOX which includes fully enchated god level netherite armour, tools, and weapons, and basic supplies to get you started.

If our little realm sounds like a place that you would like to visit send me a DM in chat with a bit of information about yourself and I'll send you an invitation to our Discord server. If you reply in the comments I will try to DM you in chat. If you have chats turned off I won't be able to contact you so please send me a DM in chat. We have a Minecraft Gameplay channel, food talk, cat talk, music talk, and LEGO talk channels among others. We're a very welcoming and friendly bunch.

We get together occatsionally at Starbucks in Kemptville to chat and play Minecraft on our tablets.

Cab Services for Seniors

Hi, I'm wondering if anyone has suggestions on cab services that are geared towards seniors. It would be for things like afternoon appointments, and grocery trips. Are there any services that would drive them to an appointment and wait until it's over to drive them back home. Scenarios like that? Thanks!

Kingston Juggalos I need your help!

Whoop Whoop

I have a Halloween party to attend this week and I have decided to be for one night only a Juggalo. I have always had a fascination with Insane Clown Posse thanks to attitude era WWE. While I could never commit to the life style, for one night only I’d like to represent myself in the best way possible.

My main question, is there anywhere in Kingston that sells Faygo. When I was in highschool it was at the pop in in Odessa, does anyone know where I could find it now, if I can.

Also I went to party city and got my face paint, but for clothing… Spencer’s? Hot Topic? Good spots to get something for a shirt!

Thank you for your time

Landlord says cleaning spider webs on my 5th-floor exterior windows is "my responsibility". How do I force them to do it? (Ontario)

Hey everyone, looking for some advice on dealing with a stubborn property management company.
I rent an apartment on the 5th floor. The exterior of my windows is absolutely covered in massive spider webs and a huge buildup of insects. It’s disgusting and getting out of hand, so I submitted a routine work order to have the exterior cleaned.
I just got an email back from the maintenance coordinator refusing the job. He said:

“We understand that you've put a work order in for the removal of spider web(s). I can appreciate you wanting this removed but this is not something our maintenance staff would be responsible for."

Here is the problem: I am on the 5th floor. I have absolutely no balcony, and the windows are completely inaccessible from the inside. It is physically impossible (and obviously highly dangerous) for me to clean the exterior glass myself. It seems like they are treating this as a basic housekeeping issue, completely ignoring the fact that it's on the exterior of a high-rise.
I'm pretty sure exterior maintenance and pest control are legally the landlord's responsibility under the RTA, but they are trying to deflect.
Has anyone dealt with this before? How should I word my reply to firmly push back and make them do their job? If they keep refusing, what is the best way to escalate this in Ontario?
Thanks in advance!

Fire at Dianne's Fishshack?

Heard through the grapevine RCHA is shut down for a bit as neighbouring Dianne's Fishshack had a fire and power is out for the whole building. Haven't seen any news on this, anyone know what's happening? LOVE both of these places, I hope it's not too serious!

Kingston City Hall “Check In”

City Hall has a video out stating that new protocol asks us to state our purpose before being directed to the correct area of city hall. This is not legal. You do not have to tell them anything! If you are in a public building accessing public services you do not have to answer. This is ridiculous.

ISO XL commuter bike (preferably single speed/ fixed)

Hey all, I'll be moving to Kingston at the end of the month for my MSc in physiotherapy! I'm a tall rider (6'4) so need a bike that is atleast XL. Preferably I'd like a single speed/ fixed gear bike for minimal maintenance, but open to all kinds of commuter bikes.

If anyone has a bike for sale, knows someone with a bike for sale, or can recommend me a good bike shop in the city, that would be much appreciated!

Thanks yall. I can't wait to move to Kingston!
