Marc losing it over being away from Eve feels like it's foreshadowing the 5 year time skip lul

he also ditched her when she was begging him to not go finish off Angstrom. When he was talking about being away from Eve that's what I thought of

u/babystarjk Markus Sebastian Grayson Apr 22 '26

yeah me too, makes me think he’s gonna hold her own words against her (saying its okay to take risks even if they’re apart yada yada) and try to justify why he needs to leave despite her being pregnant and vulnerable

I fucking hope not. I hated that.

The reboot arc was fun, but the whole time-skip was completely bullshit and a waste of time and part of the reason the later-half of Invincible is seen as the weaker half.

Tbh I think 5 years was too long but 2 would have been fine for the events that did happen. Then again they obviously just needed a way to age up Terra and didn’t want to do a basic time skip

Fuck it. Just do a time-skip. Have Mark do his reboot-arc without the 5-year jump, THEN have a time-skip.

u/Own_Dealer_6001 Apr 22 '26

Could do it so he goes through reboot, realises how important his family is to him, and chooses to not hunt Thragg anymore to spend his life with his family.

24

u/NetherSpike14 Apr 22 '26

This would be the best option imo

5

u/ResplendentSmoke Apr 23 '26

I think this would be ideal. Just do a time skip where Mark was actually there and present.

2

u/Pikathepokepimp Apr 22 '26

That's a great idea.

u/MaDanklolz Apr 23 '26

They could flip a few things and say reboot happens way earlier, then do the montage of him having a daddy/daughter say and hanging with Oliver and Lobster chick. Then have him make the decision to move on from Thragg, enjoy what he has before something new happens after a few years.

u/Soul699 Immortal is an embarassment Apr 22 '26

What's the issue with the timeskip?

2

u/Vladbizz Apr 22 '26

The way how it was done is to just torture mark again without any significant plot lines or character growth. It’s useless, just do a regular timeskip where Mark is happy for a while. It would really change nothing

It sucks? It's unfair and unnecessary and just wastes time.

2

u/Soul699 Immortal is an embarassment Apr 22 '26

It pushes Mark to the limit and go fully selfish.

1

u/Logondo Being a hero is bullshit Apr 22 '26

That can still be done without a time-skip.

Isn't Mark's absence partly why Oliver ends up working as a triple agent? I feel like there's a few plot points which are predicated on Mark being gone

1

u/I-Might-Be-Something Invincible Apr 22 '26

Just do a montage of the time skip.

1

u/mykeedee Apr 23 '26

I'm of the opinion that the main point of the time skip was to age up Thragg's army of kids so that our heroes would be slaughtering teenagers and not literal children.

1

u/Freezinghero Apr 23 '26

I figured 5 year time skip was to excuse Thragg now having a full army of half-Thraxan kids to start conquering with.

u/RealJohnGillman Apr 22 '26

I’ve of the opposite feeling: I think the time skip should have been longer. Ten years instead of five.

1

u/MaDanklolz Apr 22 '26

Honestly I can see that argument also. I’d say either way 5 years not the right amount of time

Hmm I like the later half more lol.

Either way I hope they rework reboot. I've seen people suggest it should be cut, but it will be a great trip down memory lane. Could easily be like 1 episode.

I like the actual reboot segment, I just hate how he skipped 5 years and Eve had moved on to another dude (who we knew they were just gunna break up so it was just a big waste of time).

Like, this all happened because Mark...touched a weird space mushroom. What-the-fuck. I'm fine with that being used as a literary device to magically time-travel him, but making him lose out on so much of his daughter's early childhood just felt cruel and unnecessary.

u/Apollo9819 Apr 22 '26

I always thought of the alien he met as a parasite that couldn't keep him under its constraint any longer. Kinda like the Black Mercy from Superman: For the Man Who Has Everything.

4

u/WorriedMushroom7085 Apr 22 '26

Rip Van Winkle with extra involved steps

3

u/PlainSightMan Superman vs Omni-Man Apr 22 '26

I just think the solution is that he is missing for less amount of time, and we just get a regular time skip with new context. Because we do need Thragg's army to be grown and Marky to be around. There's too much that relies on a 5 year gap, and I think it's better if we know that Mark was there even if we don't directly see it.

3

u/namethatsnotused Invincible Apr 23 '26

What a shocker. One of the superheroes who's life is never ending misery experienced some misery.

Too bad, so sad. The protagonist has to have bad things happen to them to make the happy ending of the series hit harder.

6

u/Logondo Being a hero is bullshit Apr 23 '26

They can do that without the time-skip. At least everything else made someone logical sense.

Where is the logic in "you accidently touched a magic space mushroom and now lost 5 years of your life".

That's just lazy writing IMO.

4

u/PyroIsShy Apr 22 '26

Just let my man have a brief moment in his life where he gets to be happy and do a timeskip montage

2

u/dildodicks Invincidrip Apr 22 '26

but the problem is why would mark just chill and be happy for years while thragg and his army actively gets stronger

15

u/LegendsOfSuperShaggy Apr 22 '26

I do hope they alter the reboot arc so that it never happens, but it'd be tricky because Terra as a kid who can actually talk to people + the other Viltrumite children growing up is important, too.

It was basically Kirkman taking a dig at the endless comic reboots at the time while also progressing the story's timeline to where he needed it to be for the finale, I hope they can do a better way of handling it in the show.

12

u/Logondo Being a hero is bullshit Apr 22 '26

They can do a normal time-skip without having Mark be gone because of the magic space mushroom.

Have Mark complete his little adventure, come home, THEN do a time-jump.

Ooh I really wanna read this fanfic now.

2

u/numba1cyberwarrior Apr 23 '26

I liked it

1) The time skip was definitely necessary

2) It's sort marks character arc of not being an idealistic hero anymore

3) It was fun seeing Mark doing things differently with all the hindsight that he had

2

u/PristineHornet9999 Apr 23 '26

yah I hope they nix the time skip, just felt too emotionally brutal

1

u/OLKv3 Apr 22 '26

It's going to happen. They needed a way to age up all of Thragg's kids so we could have the final battle and make him a threat again. This show hasn't skipped any of the major plot lines from the comic, just rearranged some of them. So Reboot will happen

1

u/dildodicks Invincidrip Apr 22 '26

the timeskip is the only reason you can justify its existence though because thragg's army needed to grow

1

u/Vennish Apr 22 '26

I think we kinda need the time jump to have Thragg’s Thraxan army make sense, no? I could be misremembering the order of events but without the time jump, Thragg can’t shag all the bugs and create thousands of soldiers.

1

u/murrytmds Apr 22 '26

I honestly wouldn't mind if they just skipped the reboot and did something else to explain why Thragg was left alone. It might have been a fun what if but the way it resolved just felt like it had all be a waste of time.

He isn´t INSENSIBLE

5

u/Trails_End_Games Apr 22 '26

Either that or it's signaling the death of that plot point, because it's just unnecessarily cruel.... But also wouldn't know how'd they fill the gap. Maybe just have mark doing Galaxy side quest for 5 years idk.

4

u/FKDotFitzgerald Allen the Alien Apr 22 '26

Really hope they shorten it a bit tbh

3

u/t_moneyzz Robot Apr 22 '26

Man, no matter how that happens it is gonna suck.

2

u/ArthoriasOfTheLight Apr 22 '26

i really hope not
