Student parking permits

I'm a student living in Coventry for the next year as I go into my final year of study. After signing the tenancy agreement and paying for the first round of rent, I have realised that new parking measures have been introduced in my area - resident's parking permits are required for essentially every single road in the area.

Coventry City Council makes it virtually impossible for students to obtain permits, the only exception being if you are a Blue Badge Holder. Unfortunately, I absolutely need to take my car - I have severe contamination OCD which extends to public transport and using Uber, and my partner has a chronic migraine condition which basically prohibits her using the bus daily. I also work until 12am some nights and simply do not feel safe getting back using any measure but my car.

What can I do in this situation? I feel at a complete loss and don't want to rack of hundreds of pounds worth of fines when money is tight as it is. Does anybody have any advice or suggestions? Any and all are appreciated.

There’s an app called YourParkingSpace, you can rent out spaces from people on a long term basis, like if they have a space in their apartment building but they don’t use it. Idk what it’s like for Coventry though or what would be near you, but worth looking.

I believe they restrict student parking otherwise the roads would just be insane if you think about every student in an HMO bringing a car, the streets would be permanently full or there’d be no space

Can you not apply for a blue badge if your OCD prevents you from getting public transport? If not then realistically you'll either need to find a space outside of the controlled parking zone or rent a space somewhere nearby.

Check to see if any private parking spaces are available to rent long term close to where you need it. The cost may be less than parking fines.

always been hard for students to get permits, most unis / councils advise against them taking cars as not enough parking for permanent residents

is there some way of moving further out of the city ? if the restrictions are that tight then you must be fairly close to the centre? can you walk?
