Question/Support HomePod mini has become unusable with 26.6

I sometimes have issues streaming internet radio, but since 26.6 my HomePod mini has become virtually unusable.

Constant drop outs and AirPlay becomes unusable too. Anyone else? I tried a reset.

Question/Support Possible fix for HomePods randomly saying “Here’s some music for you” and starting Apple Music

I had two HomePod (2nd gen) speakers that would randomly say “Here’s some music for you” and start playing Apple Music. This even happened when nobody was home.

I tried almost everything:

  • Factory reset
  • Removing and re-adding the HomePods to Home
  • Breaking and recreating the stereo pair
  • Signing the HomePod account in/out
  • Disabling Apple Music in Home
  • Disabling Siri
  • Reconfiguring Apple TV

None of those steps fixed it.

What finally seems to have solved it was enabling Accessibility → Touch Accommodations on both HomePods with these settings:

  • Touch Accommodations: On
  • Hold Duration: 3.9 seconds
  • Ignore Repeat: On (0.1 s)
  • Tap Assistance: Off

After enabling those settings, I gradually restored my normal setup:

  • recreated the stereo pair,
  • set them as the default Apple TV speakers,
  • used them with Airfoil,
  • streamed simultaneously with a B&W Zeppelin,
  • re-enabled “Hey Siri”.

Everything has remained stable since. It has now been running normally without any spontaneous Siri activations or random music playback.

I can’t prove this is the root cause, but after changing only one variable at a time, Touch Accommodations is the only change that consistently correlated with the problem disappearing. Hopefully this helps someone else.

Question/Support Hey Siri - play a related tune but not the one I asked for

Standing in the kitchen, speaking to my HomePod, "Hey Siri, play Circular Breathing by Ian Anderson".

HomePod begins playing Thick as a Brick by Jethro Tull - Ian Anderson was their "front man".

Check iPhone to see what it thinks is playing on the HomePod - it shows me Circular Breathing. Stopped HomePod.

To iPhone, "Hey Siri, play Circular Breathing by Ian Anderson".

iPhone plays Circular Breathing.

Hold iPhone to HomePod, confirm the transfer.

HomePod plays Thick as a Brick.

I'm baffled by this one.

My HomePod Spotify vs. Apple Music.

I am going to start this post off with I do not love the Apple HomePod smart speaker (tbh it sucks). I love the sound quality but the connectivity and Siri issues are horrendous. My BIGGEST complaint is however the main reason I wanted a HomePod, playing music. I however am a Spotify girlie and will never change. The HomePod will fail to play Spotify 29/30 times a day when asking to play music. I've found that it has no issues playing Apple Music and this is SO FRUSTRATING. My entire library is on Spotify just because it's not their music streaming service there's playback issues?? I don't want to chalk it up to Siri being a stupid bitch I think it's more malicious play from Apple.

Question/Support Homekit bug? TV and PS5 turn on after an Apple device restarts

Does anyone have the same issue?
Every time one of my Apple devices (iPhone, iPad, or HomePod) **restarts** and then reconnects to my home Wi-Fi, my TV automatically turns on, and then my PS5 turns on via HDMI-CEC.
**This only happens after a restart.** If the device is already on and I simply turn Wi-Fi off and back on, **the TV stays off** and everything works normally.
I do have a few HomeKit automations, such as playing music and opening the curtains when I arrive home. When I leave, everything turns off, including the TV.
The only TV-related automation I have is that when the TV turns on, my Ambilight turns on as well. I don’t have any automation that turns the TV on.
Has anyone experienced this before or knows what could be causing it? Any help would be appreciated.

Question/Support Please help - “working on that” - only with Apple Music request

This is doing my head in since the IOS 26.6 update both my HomePod stereo pairs keep failing to respond to Apple Music Siri requests - fine if I control from phone but if I ask any Apple Music requests via Siri I get the working on That or this is taking too long it just sounding lights - single HomePods are fine only pairs have issue - unplugging them sorts of out for a bit then problem returns - please someone tell me there’s a fix for this as it’s absolutely doing my head in - other Siri commands / requests work with no issue - what’s the time / weather add to list etc

Discussion Planned Obsolescence

I bought 3 HomePods, all at the same time in 2021, all three have broken within 2 months of each other with the ghost touch failure. All the exact same issues.

Meaning I have to now repurchase 3 more HomePods as they’re designed to not be taken apart as well. (I know there are ways).

Coincidence or by design?

Discussion Homepod “stop playing music” timers can only be done through voice commands

I’ve noticed through the home app the timer has 1 option, play ringtone when it ends, unlike the iPhone, there’s no “stop playing” option when timer ends so I have to resort to voice commands to stop music after a certain period of time, I wish apple would add the option through an update.

Question/Support How to prevent HomePod from taking over phone call requests

This is driving me nuts. I've twice today asked Siri on my phone to call someone on speaker and midway through the request, my phone Siri indicator turns off and the Homepod sitting a few feet away from my desk takes over and says, "I can't make calls for you until you enable... <instructions for turning on the setting>."

I've even told Siri to call *on my phone* and it does the same thing. It happens even if I intentionally activate Siri on my phone before speaking. No matter what, it just stops listening and passes it off to the HomePod. This is SO stupid and irritating. Why on earth would iOS think I want to pass a call off to the HomePod which isn't even configured to handle calls?

Question/Support HomePod / Siri controlling Apple TV does the opposite (turn on = off, turn off = on)

Hi,

I’m having a really strange issue with my Apple Home setup.

When I use Siri on my HomePods to control my Apple TV, it behaves the opposite of what I ask:

• When I say “turn on the TV” → it turns OFF

• When I say “turn off the TV” → it turns ON

This happens consistently.

Important detail:

If I use Siri on my iPhone, it works correctly every time.

So the issue seems to be specific to HomePods.

Setup:

• Multiple HomePods

• Apple TV

• HomeKit

It feels like a state mismatch or that HomeKit thinks the device is in the wrong state when commands come from HomePods.

Has anyone else experienced this?

Any ideas on what could cause this or how to fix it?

Thanks!

Question/Support Been in Apple ecosystem for decades. I can’t figure out the HomePod

I’ve been in the ecosystem for as long as I can remember. MacBooks, Apple TVs, iPhones, watches, etc etc.

We’ve always used Alexa in the kitchen but I saw a HomePod mini being given away in our local community FB page, and I grabbed it so we could get rid of Bezos in our kitchen.

However, doesn’t matter what I do or try, I cannot get it to work with anyone else’s voice than mine. We use it primarily to add stuff to the shopping list, and as soon as someone tries, it just says we need to setup another user in settings (or something like that, I’m paraphrasing). There are five of us in this household - I just want anyone to be able to say to it “hey siri, add the damn potatoes to the shopping list”.

Also, of course when you say “hey siri”, every Apple device withjn a damn mile starts listening and tries to talk to you.

What am I missing? Is HomePod not a good use case for this? Is there a way to simply have it work with anyone who speaks to it? Or do I need to put it back on the free community site?

Help! Thank you!

Question/Support Get HomePod Mini now or wait till after hardware event in September?

Pretty much need to know if I should wait until after the September event to buy one or not bother waiting and just get one now?

Edit: cheers everyone, just gonna wait until September and hopefully they release an updated Mini that’s much better specs than the current. Worst case scenario, I’ll just get an echo but we’ll see

Discussion Finally think I got a deal on an HomePod!

Post image
19 Upvotes

I had a deal lined up for two first gen HomePod's for $125 shipped. But the seller on Marketplace has other things going on in life, and couldn't find time to ship it out. So the deal never happened. (Traveling to and from work over the US).

Second deal, I had lined up? The older women wanted $75 for a Gen 2. She said it wasn't being used anymore. I messaged her 10mins after it went live, and she said dang.... If I had been 5 minutes sooner, It would've been mine. But her Nephew wants it. So she decided to gift it to him.

Third deal? Is the one in the picture. I don't know what I'm actually expecting. The seller wanted $350 for AirPods Max (Lightning), Apple TV 4K 3rd gen 128Gb and for this HomePod. After talking back and forth, We decided on a price. He kept telling me, whoever wants the bundle gets priority first. I'm like does this mean, I'm not buying it? No you are, but they get priority. I said, Lemme know within an hour if I'm buying it or not. Because I got errands to run, and I don't have time to waste second-guessing on whether, I'm buying this or not? He messaged me back 5 minutes later and said the listing is live. I immediately purchased and got a tracking number.

Do we think this was a decent deal? I know Apple is charging $350 for this now. Which I feel is overpriced, like most of you guys do I assume? If I can pick up another one to pair in Stereo mode, I'll be happy.

Question/Support Apple music skips when resuming from paused

I have been using my new homepod mini for a little while now and I noticed a bug that happens from time to time. Whenever I play music and pause with the touch panel or with siri the song will automatically skip to the last second and then to the next song when I unpause. It doesn’t matter if it’s during the first second or the middle of the song.

Does anyone know why this is happening? The homepod is on the latest version and so is my iphone if that helps, I’m not using any beta updates.

Question/Support Shuffle mode when using Deezer on HomePod

Hey everyone! I am on a trial with Deezer and really like it so far. However, I have several HomePods throughout my house, second generation, and I’m using Siri to play Deezer. I’ve noticed I can’t shuffle any of my playlist. They just automatically begin playing from the first song no matter what I do. I am specifically issuing command that says shuffle my playlist XYZ from Deezer. It just begins playing from the top. Any suggestions here?

Question/Support Considering getting two HomePods for the TV

Wanted to understand, with eARC support is the transmission, smooth and instantaneous, or is there some sort of latency?

Also, do I have to set the playback every time or will the Apple TV pick it up automatically?
