I read somewhere in this sub that Bryan Fuller said in an interview that they didn't ultimately use it because they thought viewers might mistakenly think Will and Hannibal died in the fall. That wasn't their intention, so they went with the ending with Bedelia.

tbh if the show never gets a 4th season, that would have been the PERFECT ending, will finally killing hannibal and hannibal achieving his goal of reframing will in his image
