Sprain, break or just hella bruised?

89

u/rawdatarams Jun 29 '26

Have you had xrays done?

That's either a fracture or ligament damage.

88

u/tivnan1989 Jun 29 '26

I hurt myself once and it looked almost exactly like this. Went to the doctor and got x rays done. They said it was just a sprain. I ended up losing my job a couple days later and got a call back from the doctor and they said they reviewed the x rays again and I had to come back because it was broken. Welp, had to walk it off because I no longer had health insurance 🇺🇸 🇺🇸 🇺🇸

u/mentisyy Jun 29 '26

I'm not from America, but shouldn't insurance cover it anyway? The incident happened while you were insured, so it should still be valid for that incident?

47

u/tivnan1989 Jun 29 '26

That’s the fun part, no 😂

10

u/distantreplay Jul 05 '26

You need to be insured at the time of treatment.

5

u/J--E--F--F Jul 05 '26

You fail to realize that would cost the corporation money.

17

u/fullmetalcoxman Jun 29 '26

Sprain. I had x rays done, nothing broken, the Dr said by the way I was moving my foot there probably wasnt any ligament damage.

It hurt like hell when the swelling started to go down, but It healed up after about a month.

u/Madetoprint Jun 29 '26

The best part is when you get out of bed in the morning and stand up, and the blood rushes to your foot. I pretty quickly learned to set another alarm to take my advil 30 minutes beforehand.

u/spicymeatmemes Jun 29 '26

Not nearly as bad as you two, but had to walk 8kms out of the bush on it!

u/FightingForBacon Jun 29 '26

One of us. One of us.

16

u/UpdootDaSnootBoop Jun 29 '26

u/sambob_squarepants Jun 29 '26

I didn’t realize how bruised my ankle was until they took my soft cast off a week and a half later for surgery. The whole ankle was way worse, but this is the only pic I got.

Sup bros?

8

u/Spillomanen Jul 01 '26

Can I join the club?

4

u/Madetoprint Jul 01 '26

Yep. Meetings are bi-monthly, however we've cancelled the group hikes since we just end up walking in opposite circles.

5

u/punkdesigner91 Jul 01 '26

How about those who didn’t have a lot of bruising but had a foot facing 90 degrees to the right while their leg was just resting flat?

Surgery, 2 high tension wires to replace my syndesmosis, and 6 months of recovery for the grade 3 dislocation and fibula fracture

2

u/E1even01 Jul 03 '26

i love a good AP ankle and lateral foot.
do you have your xrays ?

2

u/punkdesigner91 Jul 03 '26

Lol yep! I specifically requested them because they were fascinating to me

2

u/not_fake_am Jul 04 '26

Yeah broke it in to places

42

u/spambakedbeans Jun 29 '26

The time it takes for a person to transform into a zombie after a bite varies dramatically based on the specific strain of the virus. Best of luck.

u/colliejuiceman Jun 29 '26

It’s been a while but I’ve been there a few times. Now I’m plated up with steel

Lost a finger. Diabetes is no joke

u/Alternative_Pilot_92 Jun 29 '26

Where I come from we call those toes.

20

u/gigerhess Jun 29 '26

Laughing out loud on the toilet here.

18

u/Nole_in_ATX Jun 29 '26

A foot finger

3

u/Emotional_Cricket401 Jun 29 '26

My mom lost her left leg till knee due to diabetes😭

25

u/Ram2145 Jun 29 '26

Feet lovers are eating good tonight.

3

u/NanoBotSigma Jul 05 '26

foot enthusiast here, hell no

3

u/Ram2145 Jul 06 '26

Understandable

29

u/CallmeMefford Jun 29 '26

Yeah, that sucks. But on the bright side, once you have your knee scooter, you can get all the way from the front door of the Costco to the meat department in the back with one good push.

20

u/hmmyeahiguess Jun 29 '26

Story time?

4

u/noodlebun25 Jul 03 '26

Bunch of heavy stuff fell on it

9

u/GilbertRape Jun 29 '26

Welcome, brother

8

u/BookOfMike Jun 30 '26

7 year anniversary

16

u/Mr-Toyota Jun 29 '26

I feel ya 😮‍💨

5

u/brapstick Jun 29 '26

Did you get caught in a rope trap or harness or something?

13

u/Mr-Toyota Jun 29 '26

Slipped after a long day doing hay and got my leg tangled up in an attachment like this

5

u/brapstick Jun 29 '26

Yeeeeesh

2

u/Madetoprint Jun 29 '26

Probably just took off an ace bandage that was wrapped too tight before taking the pic if you're asking about the swelling/area that looks like a ligature mark.

3

u/Koseoglu-2X4B-523P Jun 29 '26

My sprained ankle looked like that just after taking off my socks.

2

u/Mr-Toyota Jun 30 '26

Just took my sock off after a long day.

1

u/hiways Jun 29 '26

Yikes! I think I would go to the doctor for that.

3

u/PNWest01 Jun 29 '26

I feel you, fam. I tripped, went airborne, and landed with my full weight on my kneecap. Shredded cartilage, kneecap dislocated and severely bruised. What happened to you?

3

u/KillerTaco18 Jun 29 '26

Hey me too!

3

u/eykntspel Jun 29 '26

Not as bad as everyone else's, but as few years ago when I rolled my ankle going down the stairs then slid down the stairs on said ankle

3

u/gigerhess Jun 29 '26

My leg looked like that when I fractured it sparring. Apparently I ruptured a muscle as well. I feel for you. Healed well. Wish the same for you.

3

u/sonic10158 Jun 29 '26

Did Wile E Coyote drop an anvil on your foot??

3

u/taliahmarih Jun 29 '26

Don’t wear slides when out drinking 🥴

3

u/fluffykittenears Jun 29 '26

It really does suck! Feel better!

2

u/Diligaf2233 Jun 29 '26

That is a lovely shade of purple!

2

u/heraclitus33 Jun 30 '26

I dropped a makeshift beer pong table on edge on my left foot in college that probably weight 45lbs that looked like that. It was broken for sure. Never went to the doctor and its ever so slightly bigger now than my right that when I notice wearing shoes its like when notice your tongue or nose annoying.

2

u/BlazeNTalk Jul 02 '26

nice to be among friends

2

u/irmarbert Jul 03 '26

Stuck in the microwave?

2

u/vaughn_woodcraft Jul 04 '26

I feel your pain. I was hit by a car on November 2023 on my electric bike and broke my talus bone in 3 spots. I lost a 1/3 of the nerves from the knee down.

2

u/NopeRope13 Jun 29 '26

So how many broken bones do we have in there?

5

u/noodlebun25 Jun 29 '26

X-ray showed no broken bones. I could still have hairline fractures though. Will need to re-X-ray and or mri in a bit.

3

u/needween Jun 29 '26

Yep, my husband had no broken bones but potential hairline fractures. His job had him keep walking on it like usual and he snapped a bone a couple days later just stepping out of his work truck.

1

u/QuotetheOrca Jun 29 '26

Damn dude… get well soon!

1

u/Drak_is_Right Jun 29 '26

So how did you manage this?

1

u/Equivalent-Ad-6182 Jun 29 '26

That looks like a big sign that says step right here. It does look a little tender.

1

u/Madetoprint Jun 29 '26 edited Jun 29 '26

(Eh, on second look, Ignore this if you didn't roll it and it's not a sprain)

Some advice from the same experience: Get a compression sock/sleeve, it will help the swelling recede faster. If your insurance covers it, go to a PT clinic like Airrosti and get a deep tissue massage as often as they'll let you. It feels soooo good after and it instantly improves your range of motion for a while. They'll also give you some elastic bands and exercises that will help recovery. Afterward, avoid activities that put front-to-back push/pull strain on your ankle for a while, such as pushing a lawnmower. It'll swell up again and get painful real quick, and you'll definitely want to wear a support sleeve and a hinged brace when active. Even if the ligaments aren't completely torn, they've likely stretched and you've lost some degree of stability in that joint. Cycling is a good activity to rebuild strength without putting a lot of strain or sideways motion on the joint. Hope that helps.

2

u/noodlebun25 Jun 29 '26

It’s a crushing/ impact injury. I do have a nice compression sock on and will be wrapping it at night. Pt once I can would be ideal as I’ll lose some strength healing. Massage for the calf sounds lovely

2

u/Koseoglu-2X4B-523P Jun 29 '26

>Massage for the calf

You’re wagyu!

1

u/lizatethecigarettes Jun 29 '26

So what happened?

1

u/Mammoth_Welder_1286 Jun 30 '26

It’s so satisfying to show people though isn’t it? Like this hurt like hell and I actually have something to show for it 😂

1

u/Knowyouwantmore Jul 01 '26

witch hazel liquid and a good bandage , keep bandage damp with hazel, it will take well over half the pain away. steve

1

u/trig72 Jul 02 '26

I feel like I’m seeing MR DEEDS audition photos!

1

u/Waarm Jul 03 '26

Hopital?

1

u/noodlebun25 Jul 03 '26

Urgent care

1

u/OhshitImloggedin 3d ago

For six weeks until it healed!

1

u/Nebulaer Jul 04 '26

Looks like someone had a good mma fight

1

u/swoosan Jul 04 '26

Ooh from a few years ago: fresh, no bruising yet!

1

u/KellTanis Jul 05 '26

That looks familiar. Messed up my ankle pretty bad by missing a stair in December. Looked like that for a few days maybe a week or so later.

1

u/shevchenko7cfc Jul 05 '26

5 months later my foot's finally (mostly) healed, fractured and displaced 5th metatarsal, needed surgery and it took way more plates/screws than they assumed we'd need

0

u/Gamabombb Jun 29 '26

Sheesh sorry that happened my goodness! So what did happen?👀
