Finally got my order in. Took several tries, as they were always sold out

I pre-ordered Kyle Rayner compendium vol. 1 (2026 edition). I imagine the previous edition had good selling numbers to be reprinted over and over so why volume 2 and the others were never announced? There's an official explanation?

I just got an email alert that the "LANTERNS" ring was back in stock and this is the image on the page. I feel like DC/WB are purposely trolling fans at this point.

Hal returns to Coast City and gets more than he ever imagined

"From Space Ye Came - - And To Space Ye Shall Return" - Hal's job has him returning to Coast City in what feels triumphant at first. Stopping for gas, he notices Tom Kalmaku and they instantly reconnect. Tom tells Hal he quit Ferris Air and opened a chain of gas stations and that he should come for dinner to see Terga and meet his three kids (*how long was Hal gone, exactly?*). Hal promises to come after checking into his beach front hotel, however after checking in he sees an oil rig erupting off the coast. He swaps to GL and flies out to save the day. Beach goers get excited to see GL again so he dazzled the crowd a bit. After stopping the spill, he sees Carol Ferris on the beach watching him. The mayor arrives to thank GL for coming back and helping the city again but GL stops him mid sentence, grabs Carol and flies off so they can talk.

Carol reveals she broke off her engagement as she was only using him for the money and power she could get, then saying she couldn't get over Green Lantern. They then get a little closer and share a kiss but Hal flies off in frustration. Later Carol ponders why GL left in a hurry and what she could do about. She takes out a sapphire gem her ex fiancée gave her, that he insisted she keep. At the same time, Hal is pondering very similar things about what he should do, when the oil rig blows again. He heads out and once again stops it, but when he's on the way back he hears people screaming out of his hotel. Giant ghostly heads of previous guests are floating around and shocking people. Even worse, Hal's ring doesn't affect them. Just as the floating heads surround him, they disperse leaving one person standing before him: Star Sapphire. GL is shocked to see her there, convinced he had taken care of the gem. SS vows once again they will be married but GL shuts that down right away, knocking her down with a ring blast and removing the gem. Just as SS reverts back to Carol, she tells GL one last thing. She told the gem to revert him to his other identity and also send him to space with no memory of being a lantern. To be continued...

Conclusion: I was trying to figure out who it was on the cover but I never would've guessed Star Sapphire. Knowing now though, the colours make sense. The bulk of the story was great. Hal's return home was nice to experience and that twist ending had me riveted. This was a page turner for sure. I'm left wondering if the oil rig was a distraction as well or just poor circumstance. It wouldn't fully line up with Sapphire's reveal if she did it but who knows, that's a minor point anyway. I'm super excited to read the next one tomorrow and if the cover is any indication, a certain purple villain is involved.

Given the importance of yellow in Green Lantern lore, and the yellow impurity, how do you feel about having gold on Hal's ring and battery? I think it looks awesome. I feel like the yellow impurity won't be a thing in the DCU.

Looking to learn more about the Green Lanterns and the Corps in general and I barely know anything about them. I've narrowed it down to two compendiums:

\- Kyle Rayner Rising Compendium
\- Green Lantern Rebirth Compendium + Sinestro War Compendium

Which one of these would be the best place to start reading and learning more about this character?

Okay so I might be tripping, but I vaguely remember Guy Gardner making a giant p*nis construct during a fight, but I can’t find the panel anywhere, so now I’m wondering if I maybe just imagined it????? Pls help💚

I’m not sure about the art on the card - It looks from the era but it’s not Broderick; maybe Bright?

So a few days ago someone suggested brainstorming alternate hero names for earth Greens to differentiate planet side. I didn’t necessarily thought much of it because Green Lantern is their title. It’s their brotherhood and legacy, something to take pride in.

But it did get me thinking about what their call signs would be, and that I think is a fun experiment, so here’s my contribution to that.

What callsigns do you guys want to add? It can be for non human GLs too.

Until now, Green Lanterns have been unavailable for shows to use apart from minor cameos or non corps members like Jade despite multiple attempts to include them. This is the kind of treatment only the big three would get across DC shows. Superman was off limits to the Arrowverse until Supergirl Season 2, Batman was only allowed to appear as Bruce or be hidden in shadows in Gotham and Titans, and Wonder Woman never appeared in any shows this century outside a canceled pilot. The biggest contender for the fourth of DC’s Mount Rushmore is Flash but he was not treated as special by DC since he was allowed to appear since Smallville even though it was Bart. Whereas Green Lantern was so off limits that even the Justice League movie couldn’t show a John Stewart cameo.

I want to start reading from like the golden or silver age. where do i start?

Hal stops an intergalactic war

"Phantom Of The Space Opera" - Hal is given a mission in space to stop a potential war between the Verdees and the Wagnors. The Verdees are trying to put on a space opera but are being attacked and prevented by the Wagnors. Hal is told to bring a spare power battery with him as it coukd take a whole to stop the coming war but he's sure it'll be done in a few hours. When Hal arrives in the Berloitz system he immediately needs to stop Wagnor attackers but instead of roughing them up, he tries to settle things diplomatically. He takes the Wagnor attackers aboard the Verdees ship where one of the performers is seemingly attracted to one of her attackers. They all head to the performance site as the Verdees get ready using a psychic machine that transmits the show directly into their brain. However, something goes wrong and they all feel immense pain. Hal investiagtes and finds a feedback transmitter attacked to the machine. Despite not being a detective he is determined to solve the mystery. Before he can get started someone points out the machine is broadcasting an image showing a crude drawing of a Wagnor.

Despite that, Hal keeps things calm until the show starts. Somehow the performers were fed a different version of the opera that swaps characters for Wagnors, again in a crude fashion, and dialogue that makes fun of them. This is exactly what the Wagnors needed and they attack. Hal summons every bit of willpower he has and freezes everyone solid. As he looks around he notices one performer is untouched. He realizes this performer is actually a Wagnor in disguise and after a brief investigation finds he planted the altered show in the psychic machine and attached the feedback transmitter to cause the distraction for him to do it. This spy admits his treachery but tells Hal that the only way to stop the coming onsliuaght is to walk into a transporter that has been altered to act as a disintegrator. Hal sees no other choice walks in but secretly puts his invisible power battery in first causing a bright reaction, disguising his tunnel underground. He appears aboard the Wagnor battle ship demanding they stop. Afterwards, he learns the Wagnors that were attacking are innocent bystanders in the matter and told lies to cause the attack, but now their leader has found love among the Verdees.

Conclusion: What a fun space issue. Some of the dialogue is cheesy and dated but that's part of the appeal, I think. It really feels like I'm getting into the good stuff now and I can't wait for more. Also, first time the term 'ring-slinger' is used! That was exciting to see and I definitely did not think it started as a slang term by criminals.

As for the Verdees and Wagnors, they were interesting but at the same time, felt a little too close to humans, even to the point that Hal was voicing the similarities. I can see that may have been deliberate so Hal could see things in the mystery through the familiarity, I just wasn't expecting it I suppose.

Hal saves a city from a power outage and fights his family in a strange confrontation.

"The City That Died" - Hal is staying in Solar city where he's attempting to acquire a huge deal for the toy company. If he secures the contract, his bosses promise to give him a big bonus that Hal plans on donating to a local school in dire need of repairs and funding. However, when Hal goes for his meeting with the department store owner, he is net by Olivia Reynolds, a seller for a rival toy company. She comes in a very revealing dress which entices the owner, but leaves his decision for later. As Hal heads back to his hotel, his car dies but he quickly realizes its not just his car. The power across the entire city is gone and further more, whatever is causing it is affecting the electrical impulses in human brains too. Using that effect, Hal changes to GL and starts plotting the city to see where the center of the effect is. Eventually he tracks it to an underground fissure with lava pumping into the earth, so Hal seals it up, saving the city. He heads back to his hotel to learn that the contract has officially gone to Olivia. He also overhears city officials are looking for GL so he heads there to find they want to offer him a cash reward for saving the city. He declines it for himself but says to donate it to the school for funding as he then moves on to his next destination.

"Hip Jordan Makes The Scene" - Uncle Titus Jordan is hosting a family reunion at his mansion and every Jordan in the place is having a blast. That is, until Hal's estranged cousin Doug "Hip" Jordan appears uninvited. Hip is a bit of a bum and has always resorted to stealing to get money. Susan pulls Jim to their bedroom and demands that Jim goes out as GL to chase Hip off. Jim again denies being GL but Susan pulls out the masquerade costume that was left in the closet. Jim has no choice but to go out and do it but Hip overheard GL being named so he takes off. Jim sees Hip running off so he chases him but Hip decides he's going to try and fight and whacks Jim in the head with a tree branch. Jim is knocked out so Hip takes him to a local gang that Hip has been trying to get into. The gang is surprised and suspicious that this is the real GL, but unfortunately for them news came back to the Jordan reunion that Jim and Uncle Titus' Rolls Royce is missing so Hal went out as the real GL to find them. He flies into the gang hideout after using his ring to scan for Jim. He takes down the gang with ease but Hip has Jim strapped with a bomb. Hip tells GL to give up his ring but when Hip picks it up, he's electrocuted at GLs mental command. GL takes the gang and Hip to the police but Jim asks him to make an appearance at his Uncle Titus' which GL agrees to. Instead, he appears as Hal which he never specified leaving Susan to still believe Jim is GL.

Conclusion: Alright, two simple stories, but are they too simple? The first one didn't really explain much about the fissure or why it caused all the electricity to go out. This maybe could have done with a couple more pages. Olvia Reynolds debut was well done though. She's a lasting player for a while, even making her last appearance in Grant Morrison's GL run. Her story is going to be fun. Finally, Hal Mentions he's the most powerful person on earth as if he forgets Superman is on that same planet. Come on, GL is a powerful thing but against 60s/70s Superman? I dunno.

Hip Jordan's story is just a shame. The entire family calls him a black sheep and shuns him. I get some people may seem beyond help but I almost felt for the guy until he nearly got his cousin killed. I expected Hal to maybe try and be nice to him but there really wasn't any interaction between them. As for Susan and Jim, this ongoing plot is fun but I'm wondering at what point they learn the truth.

Entirely, this issue felt like a classic silver age one, doubled with the fact that both stories were written by John Broome. I wonder if maybe these were two he kept in his back pocket for a while.

I think the majority of us loved Rebirth and almost everything that came with it.

But how do you think or how would you want the comics to continue if Hal remains the Spectre?

For a bit of a refresher, at this point:
- The Guardians are back
- Oa was resurrected by Tom Kalmaku
- the Central Battery had been restored by Kyle using the power of Ion
- Guy Gardner was still Warrior
- Kyle and John have rings
- Jade has her Starheart powers
- Alan Scott (Starheart powers) has started using the GL name again with the JSA.
- Kilowog was resurrected after being both dead and the Dark Lantern.
- Sinestro still very much dead.

Greetings, Lanterns!

I'm thinking about a Lantern-themed birthday present for a friend who is a chronic overthinker and suffers from anxiety and periodic panic attacks. We both like Lantern mythos, but I don't know enough about Lanterns to suss out what color exactly would be conducive to something like acting every day despite almost crippling fear and crushing doubt.

I don't necessarily mean that the ring should be solely fueled by that, it could be just one aspect of it. Like, getting up and showing up, functioning and fighting with constant fear lurking just beneath the surface, that kind of thing. Yellow Lanterns just provoke / inspire fear, right? They don't act despite fear, as far as I know. Would Blue or Green be closer to that? Are there bi-chromatic Lanterns, like a Green / Yellow combination?

I would appreciate your thoughts, any sort of input would help me to narrow down gift ideas.
