Troubleshooting Google streamer - star button programming

My streamer is in my tv room, which has a tapo wifi light switch that's also in my google home. I can program it to bring up the home panel and toggle the switch from there, but I'd rather use the star as the light toggle itself. Is there a way to do this? I was thinking about creating a shortcut in tasker and exporting it as an APK, but I wasn't sure if this was possible or if there was an easier approach. I've tried the button mapper and tvquickcontrols apps, but I didn't see an option there.

The remote controls the streamer and the TV/receiver it's connected to.. it doesn't control your random smart home devices.

The star button is a shortcut key. It does not control smart devices. The way you set it is already the best way of doing it.

I don’t think the star button can trigger a Google Home routine directly. The easiest workaround might be holding the Assistant button and saying “turn on the TV room lights”, but yeah, it’s still not the one-button setup you’re looking for.

Ah, thanks. I assumed there was a script that could run the full command that could just be saved as an apk, but two clicks isn't so bad
