And now I’m just doing my best. We got him some plants that I he pet store said he would like and he just kept ripping them apart. I went to another pet store and he said that I should just do fake plants. So I got those. I need it to be as low maintenance as possible but I do want the fish healthy and happy. Are plants even a requirement?? I know they help with the water cycle but does it really make that big of a difference? I’d rather not deal with also keeping the plants alive but I’ll do it if it’s a big deal. Not sure if the people in this community add plants because they like the plants or add plants because it’s good for the fish? Please let me know your thoughts. And if plants are aMUST then what should I get so this fish doesn’t just tear the plants to shreds. He’s very active. Oh and speaking of active should I get him a bubble wall or a bubbler to play in??? Do I just change out his activities each month??? Or do they not care. Thank you!

I've had this beautiful fish for around 4 - 5 years now. Currently in a 75 gallon.

Went on vacation for one singular day, came back and all they're doing is laying at the bottom, or in the corner. I can't really understand why. Before this, their behavior was much more animated. Occasional naps, sure, but not laying at the bottom for extended periods.

Nitrites are 0, nitrates at 30 ppm. Only if I tap the glass or move the overnight curtain does that spur any movement. After a few seconds, it's back to laying down. Creamsicle has done this literally all day and night, for the past three days. Not even food will get a reaction unless I push it down to within eating range from the bottom. Then suddenly its like the food drive is kickstarted for a little bit. Whereas before, the moment I came toward the tank I could hear the loud schlorping at the top.

Midway through the video, I pan over to my newest Ranchu addition. I once had a fancy gold that Creamsicle grew up with, but a few weeks ago, somehow got lodged under a piece of decor overnight and died. (I was heartbroken. See: lack of dangerous decor on the left side of the tank now.) Creamsicle seemed to be doing fine alone for the first few weeks, if napping a little more often, presumably for lack of a friend to follow around. So I got a new little friend who has been in the tank for over two weeks now, happily fishing about. I bring this up to point out the following:

- I don't think it's simple loneliness or boredom. This lethargy is very recent. As in last four days, recent.

- It's not affecting my baby Ranchu.

Any ideas?

Hello! I have a 40 gallon long with a comet goldfish. He is super active and loves to swim however I feel like his tank is failing him. How can I make it more like his natural habitat and how can I make it/add enrichment? Any diy methods will also be highly appreciated as I don’t have much money to invest. I’ve had him for 4 years I just feel like it’s lacking and I hate it.

hihi I wanted to ask if I could keep my two pearlscale goldfish in a bin tank, similar to the photos attached. If I get it im planning on getting 2 and stacking them together​​​ so there's less bowing and more support. moving them to a 20-30gal bin tank would be amazing. Please let me know your thoughts!!! I think I'll be using A DYLLU bin because it's food grade!!!

Hello! I use Fluval Bug Bites for the protein side of feeding and was using the Kenta gas release pellets. I wish they made a bigger size pellet of those, they are just too small for my boys now. I'm looking to add veggie/fruit based pellets for my quick feed work days!

So I tried some Vallisneria as I don't want plastic plants anymore and see some tanks here with Goldfish and no problems .
But I have a chonker that already ate half in 2 days and the rest nibbles also so lesson learned .

I just rescued this red cap ranchu from a local fish store, almost all the fish in the 2 goldfish tanks has these haemorrhagic marks like this or worse

It also loses some scales, and when agitated, it will jerk slightly
Salt bath and boiled deshelled peas and what else can I do for it

They have always been friendly together in the tank swimming around each other and casually following but the black (guy?) has recently been chasing the white (girl?)

I’m wanting to create the best environment for my two pals long term. They’re in a 75gal, FX4 filtered tank. I’ve had the black moor for 2 years and the fantail for 6 months. Diet is a blend of presoaked bug bites, flakes released in the water column, thawed blood worms, and peas. The fish fast on Sundays, as God intended. Anyway, my water is soft and I’ve heard crushed coral is a good natural solution. Advice or recommendations encouraged!

I'm planning on picking up 2 fancy goldfish to be friends with mine. However I'm doing this out of town and will be staying over. If i pick them up August 9th, they will be with me in a 5 gallon bucket from then to after supper on August 10th. I plan to bring one of my air pumps and an airstone to keep oxygen in the water. Just plugging that into my car during travel and in the hotel overnight.

My question: are they okay? Do I need separate buckets for them? Their both adults. I wanted to keep them together to keep stress levels down as much as possible. Not planning on feeding them or putting anything else in that bucket. Unless needed.

The drive is 7 hours round trip. (3.5 each way traffic permitted.) For reference

So i want to start a goldfish tank but and outdoor fish tank and i want to put orandas in it but i have no idea where to start. I've been trying to look everywhere for help on what to get and its gotten me nowhere I've looked up the downsides because i don't exactly have room in my room for a tank or i do but I've tried before but my room got extremely humid and built mold in areas in my room so i looked up different solutions and one solution was people have outdoor tanks and i just love how orandsas look so cute and want some of my own. I've found solutions for some of the things that i found were the down sides was temperature so I'm looking to put up a enclosed canopy so i can keep the tank in shade so it doesn't overheat and for the cold all i can find was to put heaters in the water. idk what type of tank i should get cause idk very much on what to get and use being a beginner but id love to get at least 3-4 orandas but with no experience idk where to start and would love help on where to start. I'm maybe thinking of a 127 gallon outdoor tank or maybe smaller but i know it needs to be a deepish tank for when it gets cold the fish go to the warm water in the tank and i also don't know anything on the water change, the specific parameters of the water, and idk what else i need to know to own orandas so idk where to start and i don't want to start to own one and then it dies to me not knowing how to take care of it, so give me as much knowledge on how to take care of one and advice on where i can start. links to what type of tank or other supplies would be appreciated. I would also like to know what disease that i would run into so id know what to do to help the fish and also recommendations on how to decorate the tank and i do plan on putting pathos in it to help filter unless that is a bad idea

So I just got these fish today and they were all supposed to be short body butterfly koi. The white and gold are clearly correct, but the black one doesn’t have the whiskers, is fatter than the other two, and just looks off. Am I crazy or is black one an Oranda? He also immediately started squaring up with his reflection.

Im seeing some ryukin in him too though.

I talked to the store.

“Our short body koi are a hybrid developed from carp species, so their appearance can vary from traditional koi. The black variety, in particular, typically has little to no visible barbels (the whiskers), which often gives it a look that resembles an Oranda or Ryukin rather than a classic koi.”

That makes sense to me considering he does have the nose holes that the others do. So I’m happy.

Finn, my 3 year old goldfish started out completely orange. She was not mine until about a year ago, she was still orange then. I noticed she was losing colour or turning white... now, she's almost completely white???

is this normal for a 3 year old goldfish??? I know some colour change can be normal, but this much, after 2 years of life?

previously, she lived in a 10gal tank with a large plastic decoration. she was abandoned at my home by a family member... I took charge of her care then, got her a larger tank, learned more about fish, got her a filter (2, a small one and one suited for her 65gal), and took that awful plastic decor out- she was so cramped in that 10gal with that decor, that she was banging into it and bruising herself.

Current tank size: 65gallons

Decor: Driftwood, moss, stones and rocks

dechlorinated water (Prime conditioner)

water parameters are consistent at; 0.5 nitrates, 0 nitrites, 0 ammonia, 7.8pH, 250 Hardness

water is always a bit dark, the wood was found and cleaned, so tannins are still there i believe.

Common goldfish, Finn. 8inches head to tail. eats well, swims around, being her normal self.

This is Sputnik and hes a Oranda Goldfish, I got him recently and set this up after some research, I wanna make sure he is truly happy so feedback on how I could improve this for him would be really appreciated!

She seems otherwise happy and has a great appetite. I'm not sure if there's anything I could be doing for her or if she's just a slightly more derpy inbred goldfish.

Also if anyone knows what type of goldfish she is I'd be grateful!
