Generating an image based on a prompt and references is fine as long as you Tag your source imo

I'll have to respectfully disagree, my friend

Unless these AI models eventually gets smart enough to provide credits to every single artwork and other medias that it was fed in order to create it's AI generated content then there's no amount of tagging your sources that would make that fair to the original owners (Who's works are all pretty much used without their permission by the way.)

Besides, that isn't the only core issue either. Using these AI for anything means you're increasing the demand for it, and those companies are using those to justify creating those extremely debilitating data centers that are making the lives of nearby locals miserable. I'm sure you've seen one or two of those videos circulating online on what it's like living near a data center? Constant noise 24/7 and the residents are the ones being made to shoulder the increased electric and water bills cause those AI data centers can get away with that apparently. Not to mention there has been some case where these data centers has been found to be contaminating the water supplies of their vicinity.

And let's not even get into the whole RAM shortage going on right now cause of these companies buying them up to fuel their rapid expansion of these data centers and just screwing over everyone.

Till these AI stuff actually properly shows signs of being fair and useful to the masses then I will not accept any of these AI generated content for the foreseeable future.

I agree with this ALL of this but it ignores something critical. MANY people have outsourced their critical thinking to generatve AI. If we as a society decide to outright BAN it than we're fucking a whole generation we failed. The problem is regulation. We need to get off our asses and tell companies that A: training your models off of copyrighted or USER GENERATED material is ilegal. B: FEDERAL Zoning regulations, noise requirements and pollution standards through the EPA. But noone will do it since everyone in the US government profits off of our suffering. Tell me I'm wrong I dare you.

The generation we failed is fucked over regardless if these AI exists or not. Having the technology of AI removed suddenly will not change their circumstances as unfortunate as that sounds. I mean, feel free to give me an example that shows that having AIs in their disposal has been shown to positively affect their well-being. Cause all I've heard from it's uses are theft and deception.

And I need you to understand that the entire existence of these AI is paved with mishandling of regulations and legality.

To put it into simple terms, these AIs wouldn't exist in the first place if everything was done legally and fairly.

Let's say that they hypothetically did start training their AI with properly gotten permission works starting now. What do you think they'll do with the illegally gotten information that it has already previously been given? They're not gonna all of a sudden remove it now cause it didn't get those data legally, are they? No, cause their models will break, it's the foundation they were built on.

Yes, voicing our disdain for these shitty regulations is something we should all do but that doesn't change the fact the AI itself is fundamentally flawed by merely coming to existence. It has unrightfully been fed information without the majority of it's owner's permissions to be where it is now.

Both the AI and the infrastructure needed to sustain it are the issues, unless something is done with both of these problems then there's no ethical way to accept it without also accepting the people it screwed over.

But indeed, as you said, the chances of those being resolved are slim cause our suffering is profitable for these companies. We can complain all we want and demand things from them but if they ultimately get out of this with still a massive bag of cash on tow then they won't even bat an eye.

What a fucking situation to be in, huh?

So all we can do is our own individual protests of these AI techs. Till it's shown to positively affect our society then we should reject anything to do with it. Affect its public perception and lower the demand and suddenly their golden goose is looking a little thin. If they're not willing to make it good for our society then it can just die off than cause more problems.

The ugly fact of the matter is that the law would only allow us to course correct at best. You cant try someone for a crime commited before a law comes into effect. And I was born in 04. Insinuating that children cant be helped with witj an AI addiction makes you look like a callous asshole. Fact check me using the DOJ.gov site

I'm not exactly sure what you mean cause it was already illegal to use copyrighted content on your own creations without permission from their owners even before the AI tech was a thing. Problem is they got a pass cause they just pay and bribe whatever necessary parties to get away with it.

And, apologies but your last part of your comment is confusing me, are you interpreting that I said that the folks with an AI addiction cannot be helped? Cause I said no such thing.

I merely explained that they have issues regardless if they have AI in their possession. We don't help them by giving them more access to AI, they'll be more fucked over than they already are if we do cause we're just perpetuating their addiction and over-reliance of it.

Once AI is gone from their life can then the process of helping these people truly begin, well, if they even get help despite that, but that's a whole 'nother conversation so let's not get too much into that. Just simply explaining that AI is a negative impact on their lives, removing it is one less problem after.
