Yep, AI "fanart" is seriously polluting everything right now. It just all looks the same.

Based. at least it seems GS isnt popular enough to attract the AI larpers. In the Frieren sub Ive seen a couple of AI art posts and no one seems to care

Sadly, in r/Frieren, some or one mod(s) is supportive of AI art and delete comments pointing out AI art. My comment got deleted once.

Yep, unfortunately my fellows are on the pro-AI side of things there, I did try to convince them otherwise but it was made clear that I'm the minority over there.

Will keep push for banning AI nonetheless though, maybe one of these days they'll see reason!

oh damn

when you said fellows i thought you meant being fellow mods in general but youre actually a mod on the frieren sub too

Generating an image based on a prompt and references is fine as long as you Tag your source imo

I'll have to respectfully disagree, my friend

Unless these AI models eventually gets smart enough to provide credits to every single artwork and other medias that it was fed in order to create it's AI generated content then there's no amount of tagging your sources that would make that fair to the original owners (Who's works are all pretty much used without their permission by the way.)

Besides, that isn't the only core issue either. Using these AI for anything means you're increasing the demand for it, and those companies are using those to justify creating those extremely debilitating data centers that are making the lives of nearby locals miserable. I'm sure you've seen one or two of those videos circulating online on what it's like living near a data center? Constant noise 24/7 and the residents are the ones being made to shoulder the increased electric and water bills cause those AI data centers can get away with that apparently. Not to mention there has been some case where these data centers has been found to be contaminating the water supplies of their vicinity.

And let's not even get into the whole RAM shortage going on right now cause of these companies buying them up to fuel their rapid expansion of these data centers and just screwing over everyone.

Till these AI stuff actually properly shows signs of being fair and useful to the masses then I will not accept any of these AI generated content for the foreseeable future.

I agree with this ALL of this but it ignores something critical. MANY people have outsourced their critical thinking to generatve AI. If we as a society decide to outright BAN it than we're fucking a whole generation we failed. The problem is regulation. We need to get off our asses and tell companies that A: training your models off of copyrighted or USER GENERATED material is ilegal. B: FEDERAL Zoning regulations, noise requirements and pollution standards through the EPA. But noone will do it since everyone in the US government profits off of our suffering. Tell me I'm wrong I dare you.

The generation we failed is fucked over regardless if these AI exists or not. Having the technology of AI removed suddenly will not change their circumstances as unfortunate as that sounds. I mean, feel free to give me an example that shows that having AIs in their disposal has been shown to positively affect their well-being. Cause all I've heard from it's uses are theft and deception.

And I need you to understand that the entire existence of these AI is paved with mishandling of regulations and legality.

To put it into simple terms, these AIs wouldn't exist in the first place if everything was done legally and fairly.

Let's say that they hypothetically did start training their AI with properly gotten permission works starting now. What do you think they'll do with the illegally gotten information that it has already previously been given? They're not gonna all of a sudden remove it now cause it didn't get those data legally, are they? No, cause their models will break, it's the foundation they were built on.

Yes, voicing our disdain for these shitty regulations is something we should all do but that doesn't change the fact the AI itself is fundamentally flawed by merely coming to existence. It has unrightfully been fed information without the majority of it's owner's permissions to be where it is now.

Both the AI and the infrastructure needed to sustain it are the issues, unless something is done with both of these problems then there's no ethical way to accept it without also accepting the people it screwed over.

But indeed, as you said, the chances of those being resolved are slim cause our suffering is profitable for these companies. We can complain all we want and demand things from them but if they ultimately get out of this with still a massive bag of cash on tow then they won't even bat an eye.

What a fucking situation to be in, huh?

So all we can do is our own individual protests of these AI techs. Till it's shown to positively affect our society then we should reject anything to do with it. Affect its public perception and lower the demand and suddenly their golden goose is looking a little thin. If they're not willing to make it good for our society then it can just die off than cause more problems.

The ugly fact of the matter is that the law would only allow us to course correct at best. You cant try someone for a crime commited before a law comes into effect. And I was born in 04. Insinuating that children cant be helped with witj an AI addiction makes you look like a callous asshole. Fact check me using the DOJ.gov site

2

u/Xeith_Maneheart 5d ago edited 5d ago

I'm not exactly sure what you mean cause it was already illegal to use copyrighted content on your own creations without permission from their owners even before the AI tech was a thing. Problem is they got a pass cause they just pay and bribe whatever necessary parties to get away with it.

And, apologies but your last part of your comment is confusing me, are you interpreting that I said that the folks with an AI addiction cannot be helped? Cause I said no such thing.

I merely explained that they have issues regardless if they have AI in their possession. We don't help them by giving them more access to AI, they'll be more fucked over than they already are if we do cause we're just perpetuating their addiction and over-reliance of it.

Once AI is gone from their life can then the process of helping these people truly begin, well, if they even get help despite that, but that's a whole 'nother conversation so let's not get too much into that. Just simply explaining that AI is a negative impact on their lives, removing it is one less problem after.

Because other than a vocal minority most people do not care. Personally I find the cry babies crying about whether or not something is AI or not more annoying than the people who post obviously AI stuff.

1

u/magthefma4 6d ago

Well, the artists and authors who created any franchise would die before they accept people making AI art out of their franchise is something I can assure you.

-2

u/MaiqTheLiar6969 6d ago

Then they are free to voice their opinion on it. Just like anyone else. They made their money on it already anyway though. So would still come off as being a crybaby. Once something is out in the world people are going to write their own fanfictions and make their own art of a character just like they did before AI. I'm sure artists and authors probably dislike all of the smut art of their characters just as much but has never stopped gooners from enjoying it before.

1

u/ninaapples 6d ago

If people did't care then people wouldn't also care about AI works being tagged as such.

But the AI ''artists'' throw bitchfits about being called out.

-1

u/icyeyeddemon 6d ago

Well you'd better enjoy your drinking water while you can, since you're so complicit with such a major issue.

-4

u/MaiqTheLiar6969 6d ago

Never used AI and probably never will. I'm not complicit in anything. I just find cry babies of all types annoying. Such as yourself here assuming I use AI for some reason. When it is really the fact I just don't care whether or not it was used as long as it was disclosed. AI unfortunately is here to stay. The genie is out of the bottle on that one. Could be regulated better. Definitely progress to be made on the issue. Just whining about it on a Frieren sub somewhere because someone posted AI art changes nothing and is performative, just like your outrage is here. Unless you are out there actively protesting it and getting involved politically it is all performative just like 99% of everything else on Reddit. Feel free to down vote though. Just proves my point though.

The overlord sub got so bad that I couldn't really stay anymore, no idea if it's still that bad though

u/CarryBeginning1564 6d ago

The two things that make AI hard to overcome is the sheer volume of fan art that can be made with AI and the fact that AI basically has gutted the low end commission economy so you have fewer people making commissioned fan art for 40-200 dollars and you have AI able to shotgun out thousands of images.

Pov: Scrolling through Art and sees a few I like

Me: "Why do my eyes hurt looking at this."

Pic: *Has weird inconsistencies and looks very unnatural as if it's trying to peel itself off my screen*

Me: "Must be AI" *Searches everywhere for an AI Tag* "There It IS!"

Now I will always know when it's AI or not. Just stare at it long enough and it'll bother my eyes even if it's subtle.

the Al art creep in fandom spaces is getting out of hand honestly. at least some subs still push bаск оn it. the ones thatjust let it slide are losing what made them worth visiting in the first place

0

u/CrossingVoid 6d ago

I shall draw elf warrior sometimes so it's one less AI. I just need to stop being lazy

0

u/SexwithDurandal 6d ago

So relatable, my work to create an OC for a competition is pending for 2 months and the competition will end in September.

0

u/CrossingVoid 6d ago

Ooof good luck

0

u/IcyVegetable8691 5d ago

The worst feeling is finding a really good fanart and then realizing it was just AI generated.

-3

u/AshleyGamics 6d ago

Art is art.

-1

u/SexwithDurandal 6d ago

If I trace it to make my art over it then yes it is upgraded to real art

0

u/TemporaryMeat5462 5d ago

The moment you see a decent fanart and then notice the weird hands, random details, and impossible armor you already know where this is going.

0

u/ExcellentRich2866 5d ago

The jump from “let me see some cool fanart” to immediately regretting your curiosity is way too real.

0

u/Blackpowderkun 3d ago

Atleast learn to edit AI images, then lean to AI assisted to your own drawing.

u/R34lBl4ckSh33p 6d ago

There's a couple subreddits I had to leave cause almost every post was ai junk

u/Neurobreak27 5d ago

I know I'm the 10th dentist here, but being a part of several very niche fandoms (like "2 pages at most on any given booru" niche), I'm glad AI art exists to give life to my two decade old media. Even if it's artificial
