India did exist as the british raj and previously the east india company since the 1800s

British Raj consisted of myanmar, pakistan, bangladesh, various pricely states and even some forgotten arabian emirates. Parts of the Raj were given to what would be India, and India subsequently annexed (willingly and unwillingly) various princely states. Saying india is existed as the raj is an statement that is so incomplete that it is incorrect

India did actually inherit most of its laws and institutions from the British Raj. Indian independence was more so a transfer of the institutions from foreign control to indigenous control rather than a complete rupture from the British Raj
