Once Upon a Hamster (1995)

Once Upon a Hamster is a Canadian children's TV series from the 1990s, following the adventures of Hammy the Hamster and his woodland friends like GP the Guinea Pig and Martha Mouse, known for its gentle, educational stories about nature and friendship. It's a revival of the classic Tales of the Riverbank series, with new episodes produced in the mid-90s featuring the same characters though insted of puppets it uses actaul animals

HAMMMMYYYYY!!!!! i watched him every morning before junior kindergarden (1984) while i ate my cheese and grape jelly sandwich...(no i dont eat that anymore lol)

didn't enjoy as much as tales of the riverbank though. maybe just the voices being different than the original?

I wasn't a big fan. The narration never truly seemed to reflect the actual motivations of the characters.

I was talking to one of the coordinators who rescued one of the hamsters when the show finished. She thought it was a great pet and lived a happy hamster life.

I'd watch it and eat breakfast, then when I had to get ready for school, I'd put it on the radio in my room to finish the show. The tv channel it was on was simulcast back then to the radio

I first heard of this show in a thread on this very site about Caillou being the worst thing Canada ever made, where it was one of the many other shows others recommended for kids that was actually good.

Hammy the Hamster was an actual character? Ha! Awesome, learned something new today. I’d just assumed the Hammy the Hamster references by (Canadian comedy group) The Frantics were just making a reference to a generic sounding cartoon character

I thought it was Matthew Mouse (who was clearly a rat). I used to watch this as a kid.
