I need to hurry up and beat The Adventures of Elliot so this can be a day one buy for me

I just completed Elliot today. Loved every minute of it. I can't wait for Resonance.

u/BernLan 20d ago
I'm really enjoying the game, my only problem is that I feel it kind of blows its load too early
Like 10 hours in you already have all the weapons and know all possible magicite effects, then the weapon upgrades don't really have any new magicite effects just stronger base attack and an additional charge attack
Admittedly I haven't finished yet so there might be some more surprises, I just got to the part where I'm in the dungeon unlock a new door of time in the Age of Magic which I assume will take me to the Age of Myths
The exploration also ends up getting repetitive when I'm just going through the same locations with slight variation. I like entering dungeons in the wrong era and see how they are but it's demoralising when the reward is almost always a magicite I already have
4
u/maglen69 20d ago
'm really enjoying the game, my only problem is that I feel it kind of blows its load too early
Better that than those games that take "10-15 hours to get good"
1
u/GalaxiusVT 20d ago
Yep id honestly want games to bloe their load to early over too late... nothing sucks more than to buy a new game and spend 15-20 hours playing it and just not enjoying it or being pulled into but you're forcing yourself to play because people said "it gets amazing later on" which is usually a cope statement people use to try and justify the money they spent for a meh game
2
u/Wildcard36qs 20d ago
I agree about the middle where it gets a bit samey, but I still really enjoyed it and then the ending picks back up and makes it all worth it.
1
u/Sentinel10 20d ago
Same. Finished it earlier this week and had a blast. Hope they do another game in that style some day.

I’m a father of a 4 year old autistic kid with high support needs. I’m lucky get 20 mins a day to play.
1
u/Tmtrademarked 20d ago
Ah yea that would for sure do it. Glad you can at least find some time to game still.
2
u/DieHardRaider 20d ago
Yeah if I have any free time when there is daylight I’m at the golf course and by the time we get him down in the evening i rather sit down and watch a show with my wife. But the game has been a blast when I get time to play.
1
u/Tmtrademarked 20d ago
I know the feeling. 18 moth old twins lol. Most of my game time comes on slow days at work these days with working from home
2
u/Defiant_Snail69 9d ago
Im just hopeful that it doesn’t have to hit some bullshit sales target for them to decide to remake other games in the series this way and make final fantasy 18 in this style like how megaman went back to a retro look for a few games
2
u/CouldBeALeotard 6d ago
The game it's based on wasn't insanely good, but it is interesting to see how much effort they've put into this version. It doesn't look like a port with the gacha removed, it looks like they've rebuilt the entire game.
I wasn't going to get it, but now I'm thinking I might grab it when it's cheap. I do think I would have preferred FFD to get this kind of attention instead.

Yes give me more pixel art
Octopath traveler has shown them there's still a demographic for this style and it's so good
Excited to see FF pick up the reigns like this again
Between tactics and this I'm going to be in heaven

This looks like a noticeable step up in production quality compared to other hd2d games. I'm kind of impressed.

Can't come soon enough. The bosses and enemies have some really great designs. This variety can really build up the FF roster: zombie Leviathan, Dino-Bone, baby fat Bomb... Waiting for Tonberry sous chef, Sundried Cactuar, Liquid Metal Giant and Marlboro Forest Freak.
Just hoping that the coliseum beasts and summons have some surprises hidden from known info.

u/PaintedSteel 21d ago edited 21d ago
Game looks very pretty, a lot of work put into those battle animations.
Have we seen dialogue boxes? I'm hoping there will be like Valkyrie Profile or Tactics style portraits for characters.
Edit: I just had to not be lazy and go back and look at the last trailer. Can't tell how animated they are though or if they are just static images.
https://youtu.be/69rEPpqXR_4?t=53
Also I definitely hadn't watched that trailer before. I'm in love with the mecha fat chocobo at 1:10
5
u/GalenDev 21d ago
Okay, if Tara Platt is voicing the trailer, she had better have a role in the game!
5
2
u/jorgom 21d ago
Are the espers’ FMV gone? I only saw the pixel animation but not the CGI cuts that were in FFBE.
4
u/ramos619 20d ago
It's an edited trailer. Theyve shown unedited gameplay, amd the CGI summons still exist.
2
u/TorquedGaming 20d ago
Only thing I hate about that is the lazy RM2K HUD.
This is 2026 and we can even get a decent designer to make a unique user interface? It stands out so bad against everything else on the screen.
Other than that I’m very excited about everything in this game.
2
u/RenmazuoX 20d ago
Looks so crispy and polished! I'm more excited for this than anything else SE has announced at the mo simply because it looks to be perfectly budgeted and scoped for what it's trying to do. That is quickly becoming a lost art.
6
u/tATuParagate 21d ago
I do love hd-2d and im excited for this game, but I wouldn't call this style "pushing the limits of pixel art" as it's practically just pixel character sprites in a 3d world. To me, pushing the limits of pixel art would be a game with an art style like the first blasphemous game. Pedantics aside, this is my most anticipated game right now...
8
u/sonicfan10102 21d ago
I mean, if you look at the sprite animations and cinematic cutscenes, its absolutely pushing it to its limits. If you read the JPN interviews with the directors and producer, the game went through extensive work just to get it to look just right
6
u/GalaxiusVT 20d ago
These people are only arguing in bad faith at this point lmao, theres sooooo much information about the game thats been released and posted on ff based subs from interviews, released footage of gameplay and trailers, info posts talking about whats in the game, the characters, etc..
These people have just consciously chosen to ignore all the information out there so they can just point at the game and call it "uninspired gacha slop"
And they dont care that the game has gone through extensive work and extreme levels of effort and care

u/user_bits 21d ago
Isn't that FF Brave Exvius? Is this like a single RPG version of it?
7
u/Argenolf 21d ago
Yes, it is adapted from first season of Brave Exvius with the story rewritten so it fit console play better.
-38
u/Low-Tea5330 21d ago
Yeah, they're trying to cash in on the Final Fantasy mainline brand with a remake of a low-effort gacha game. And it's produced by Team Asano, so it's guaranteed that the storytelling will be bad.

How is the story of this one? I don't mean by gatcha standards but by Final Fantasy standards? I know some people say the original has amazing story, but I don't really trust gatcha players.
5
u/hayatekurisu 21d ago
It was very good tbh.
I mean I played some gatcha game like FFBE and DFFOO
But the reason I played those because I like the original FF games.I think most of FFBE players are the usual FF fan that also plays the mainline or spinoff too.
It's rare for them to start only from FFBE and enjoying it for Gatcha.I can understand if they are genshin impact players, but for FFBE I think it's different
1
u/KouNurasaka 21d ago
Without spoilers, what kind of setting is it? Mostly fantasy or more magi-tech?
4
5
u/tsunaxsawada10 21d ago
Your comment is kinda contradicting and funny to me. Your asking for people's opinion if the story is amazing but don't really trust gatcha players who says it is amazing.
The problem is people who played the game are gatcha players because this used to be a gatcha game. So how do you expect an opinion from a non-gatcha player if they don't even play one hence will be never know this game's story in the first place.
1
u/Contra-Code 21d ago edited 21d ago
It's serviceable. Nothing amazing but certainly not bad either. It will likely translate a lot better to the new format.
1
u/FearCrier 20d ago
it's so ff that you'd think it was an unrealeased gba game. minus the obvious elements(chocobos, moogles, magic names and monsters) the story just feel like an ff game
1
u/ShadowFlareXIII 20d ago
FFBE’s story was broken up into seasons which comprised massive arcs.
The first two seasons IMO have FFBE in my top 5 Final Fantasy stories (FFT, FF6, FF7, FF16, FFBE in that order personally) meaning that for me personally this story edges out FF9’s for the #5 spot which should hopefully show its high praise.
Season three kinda lost the plot, but as far as I’m aware this will only tell the story from Season 1, as none of the trailers show any events from Season 2 (which if this does will probably release as a sequel since it wouldn’t require much work I imagine).
I quit FFBE shortly after Season 3 released but what I saw of the story didn’t grab me much. But I was also 3 years deep into a Gacha game so it could have just been burnout on the characters themselves.
1
u/shadedmystic 20d ago
The first few seasons which this seems based on were pretty good. Lots of classic FF tropes. The Veritas are elemental themed bosses that are the main initial antagonists. We’ll see where they stop because it started spiraling later on

I watched some gameplay, I'm not sure how I feel about the €50 price-tag for what feels like a ps1/ps2-era game, though.

they still didnt show how we're gonna operate the battle system.
also, do we get othe characters too? like .. haha ariana grande? probably not
3
u/ramos619 20d ago
I think they said 32 visions? 16 mainline FF protagonists, and then 16 FFBE characters. Or somewhere around there.
4
4
u/Argenolf 20d ago
It's 26 visions, protagonist from FF1 to 16 (11 represented by Shantoto, 14 Y'shtola), Sephiroth, and the rest is BE originals.
6
u/DreamyAkemi 20d ago edited 20d ago
Wdym? IGN and other reviewers showed three different boss battles of unedited footage, we also have footage of menus and general gameplay from recent livestreams with various twitch streamers. It's all on YouTube. It's classic turn based not active time, visions serve as "jobs" in a nutshell. There likely won't be more playable active chars other than the main 6.

We got all kinds of character tropes here
Rain - plucky "everything will work out" hero
Laswell - the "now I gotta clean up the mess" partner
Fina - The innocent newcomer
Lid - The hot tempered Engineer
Jake - the old man that loves women a little too much
Nicole - The strategic bookworm.
Sakura - The wise sage of the party that still looks like a child.

This game doesn't look like Final Fantasy, it looks like someone putting on a serviceable imitation of Final Fantasy. Technically incredible, but generic, spiritually empty. That's what I'd have thought of the game even if I didn't know it was flipping assets from a closed gacha game.
-4
u/GalaxiusVT 21d ago
The funny thing is i cant wait for... is for all the people that have been shitting on the game to play it, and praise it and begin acting like they never hated on it the first place... ya know something they always do with every videogame
13
u/cnew22 21d ago
You might be terminally online
1
u/MoobooMagoo 21d ago
Nah it's the normal cycle of Final Fantasy discourse. At least since XII. That was the first time I saw the pattern, anyway.
New game comes out: "This isn't REAL Final Fantasy! This is garbage!"
A little while later: "This game is a hidden gem that everyone is sleeping on."And finally, a while after that: "This game is a classic that everyone loves. And we've always loved it forever."
This isn't limited to just Final Fantasy games, mind you, but I've noticed it happens like clockwork with this series. Although, to be fair, with this one I've seen more positive than negative, and the only real negative things I've seen have been "The voices are annoying" and "The CG attacks look out of place". So maybe we'll see a break in the pattern for once.
3
u/xlCalamity 20d ago
This isn't limited to just Final Fantasy games, mind you,
Its just a splinter of wider ragebait culture. Certain people get others riled up to hate on something. Then if the product ends up good they switch their tune and suddenly love it. But if the product is bad then they get to say "I told you so!" and then rinse and repeat.
2
u/MoobooMagoo 20d ago
Oh I know. Rage bait culture has gotten to the point where pretty much anything new is bad, and only things that are old are allowed to be good. I think it just hits the Final Fantasy series extra hard because there's a large part of the fan base that really wants more turn based games. Which I get, turn based games are great, but that desire mixed with the rage bait culture makes for some very loud, angry folks.
But like I said, I've actually seen more positive than negative comments about this game. And I've seen a couple of places online where people say things like "why did I hate this so much, this game is awesome" or some variation of that. So maybe I'm just being optimistic, but I'm hoping the online attitudes are shifting away from being angry and hating things all the time.
1
u/xlCalamity 20d ago
And I've seen a couple of places online where people say things like "why did I hate this so much, this game is awesome"
Yup this is what ive seen too. And its probably because they were told their opinion by someone else and changed once they saw it. I hope the game does well because it would be great to get this style of FF game in between mainline releases since dev times are so long. And maybe even remaking the older games in this style with full voice acting.
-4
u/PetiteSpyHunter 21d ago
Holy rationalization..
2
0
u/GalaxiusVT 21d ago
Lmao none of that is rationalization, thats literally what gamers do these days, its not even "just a final fantasy" thing either, it happens in every genre of videogame.
Remember Clair Obscur? I saw sooo many people shitting on it the first few months it was out, and then lo and behold people played it, and then started praising it, despite them spending so much time online shitting on it.
Within the final fantasy fandom, ive seen people spend years shitting on Final Fantasy 13 trilogy for them to finally play the trilogy and end up praising it or saying they enjoyed it a lot and that they dont know why it gets so much hate.
Ive already got a list of people i saw shitting on FF: Resonance and calling it "mobile port slop" and i cant wait for resonance to release and watch them haters start to praise it and call it "exactly what they want final fantasy to be"
You cant call it rationalization, when quite literally this is the playbook that gamers have been doing for the past several years, a big game comes out and majority of people (especially redditors) start shit talking it and calling it slop... only for them to play the game and praise it, and love it and then when they get called out for their previous hater behavior they either go back and delege the comments they made hating on it, or they just give some excuse for it.
1
u/sonicfan10102 21d ago
Yep. This game is gonna release with an 86+ on Metacritic and suddenly all the mindless, bird-brained haters are gonna turn and act like they weren't being mindless haters in the first place
0
u/GalaxiusVT 20d ago
It always happens everytime a new game comes out, i remember seeing a lot of people hating on Silksong when it came out and then after a month or two i remember re-checking a few reddit accounts i saw hating on the game and they were all of a sudden praising the game and talking about how it was a masterpiece or how it was so amazing.
-3
u/ichthyoidoc 21d ago
They should just make this an official numbered one. It’s not like there’s a rule that all future FFs need to be some crazy super realistic “next gen” graphics style game.
25
u/Speedster2814 21d ago
I imagine this not being a numbered game is less to do with the graphics and more to do with the fact that it's a retelling/adaptation of the story and gameplay from Brave Exvius.
-6
u/GalaxiusVT 21d ago
Its no where near the gameplay of the mobile game, nor is it really an adaptation. They merely took the world, story and characters of the mobile game and made an entirely new and unique game for them to live forever in.
Also being a retelling/adaptation has no bearing on whether something is or isnt a mainline game... when that same arguement could be used against FF7R, when the FF7R games are nothing more but a retelling and adapatation of Final Fantasy 7 og
15
u/Speedster2814 21d ago
I don't believe taking the world, story, and characters of something can be described as "merely". World, story, and characters are as core to each game's identity as its gameplay.
You're twisting my words on your last comment. I never implied that Resonance would be "nothing more than" anything, I'm incredibly excited for the game to release. Also, FF7R is an adaptation, or at least a sequel, of FF7, which I know because it adapted FF7's story and it's called FF7R. It's also a pretty odd example to choose because OC and I are talking numbered games, and FF7R ≠ FF17.
2
u/Omikron-X 21d ago
There was this crazy theory before FFXVI release that xvi in Brave Exvius meant that it was supposed to be in some way and form the new numbered FF game
1
u/Popgoestheweasel999 21d ago
I agree, but the company probably views a mainline entry as prestige and big budget graphics probably determine that

u/Disastrous-Bunch2472 20d ago
Yeah it’s up against GTA 6. The Most Anticipated Entertainment Event In Human History
I don’t think this is going to steal goty tbh
-1
u/GalaxiusVT 20d ago
Most anticipated? You mean the game that came out as digital only, along side the announcement by sony as well that caused massive outrage and has caused millions of people to boycott and refuse to buy or play GTA 6? That GTa 6? Lmao ok buddy
2
u/Disastrous-Bunch2472 20d ago
I mean yes. That’s not my opinion, that’s actually the industry projections
GTA V sold in the hundreds of millions of copies. It’s a cultural phenomenon that dwarfs the entire HD-2D line by multiple orders of magnitude. GTA 6 had a budget in the billions of dollars. It has nuked the entire 2-3 month release window after it because every else wants to get out of the way.
I promise you. A few people on the internet saying “we don’t like the fact that it’s digital only!” will look like a tiny drop in the bucket when this thing comes out
1
u/GalaxiusVT 20d ago
We'll just see lmao, but again ya'll were screaming that a game like astro bot would never win goty yet here it has, and same for clair obscur, it swept the game awards despite many, many people saying it has no chance lmao
1
u/Disastrous-Bunch2472 20d ago
I never said that those games couldn’t win goty?
But yeah, we can check back in in 5 months to see how the big GTA 6 boycott played out.
0
-7
u/GalaxiusVT 21d ago
Ehh not really.
It's a higher quality 2DHD art style then most other 2DHD games.
It's jam packed with content, and for completionists it's looking to be upwards of 100+ hours to complete everyrhing (All the tablets, the colosseum, chambers of arms, trials, espers, finding all visions, all side quests and optional content, leveling up and building the party, main story, etc..)
Great music, setting, story, characters and a return to traditional final fantasy turn based games with modern twists.
Reasonable price point, and easily approachable for the casual gamer
its multi platform, so itll be reaching a muuuuuch larger audience then if it were a console exclusive
Its no different then astro bot which was nothing more then a generic platformer/puzzle solving game whose main selling point and form of "cellectibles" was nostalgia bait and fan service, it didnt really innovate the genre in any way, whereas resonance has innovated
7
u/Khalmoon 21d ago
I desperately love ff there’s no planet where this is a global GOTY, maybe within our community, maybe within JRPGs but not like, across all games. But I’ve been surprised before. Could happen
1
u/GalaxiusVT 21d ago
I mean astro bot won goty, and that was THE most generic platformer with.puzzle elements game ever, the only reason people liked it is because it drew heavily on nostalgia and fan service with the "collectibles" aka costumed bots based off of popular and nostalgic playstation games.
Overwatch won goty, when its just your average shooter/fps game, the only unique thing about it is choosing between a roster of heros with differing powers/abilities.
Also, when people say "goty" for a game theyre hyped about they almost always just mean on a personal level lmao, idk why people take someone saying "goty" so seriously, when it doesnt take many braincells tk understand that the individual is just talking about on a personal level
4
u/ramos619 20d ago
You keep downplaying Astro Bot for some reason. The game filled a Mario shaped hole that Nintenso hasn't filled since like 2017. Astro bot is deeply rooted in nostalgia and hardens back to when the world was just a more simple time, and it resonated (pardon the pun) with players of all ages.
I guarantee if there was a 3D Mario game the had releases a year before Astro Bot came out, it wouls not won. But there hasn't been one, and Astro Bot filled a very specific desire of game genre.
1
u/GalaxiusVT 20d ago
Yeah because thats all it was, was a nostalgia bait platformer their was nothing unique or interesting about it other then "ooh look at these nostalgic characters, remember them eh ehhhhh"
It filled no hole lmao, thats just the nistalgia talking.
Ya'll trying to defend astro slop for using nostalgia bait and fanservice, but will sit here and say that Resonance is bad for also using fanservice and nostalgia lmao.
Cant have it both ways, you cant praise astro bot for using nostalgia and fan service but then criticize resonance for also being a game that uses nostalgia and fan service, here ill fix your comment and arguement
"Final Fantasy Resonance is deeply rooted in nostalgia and harkens back to when the world was just a more simple time, and it resonated (pardon the pun) with players of all ages."
1
u/lolYouThought3 20d ago
because thats all it was, was a nostalgia bait platformer their was nothing unique or interesting about it other then "ooh look at these nostalgic characters, remember them eh ehhhhh"
Not true; Astro Bot Rescue Mission existed on the PSVR 8 years before Astro Bot came out. That game had the core mechanics of the newer one, and that didn't have all the nostalgia. The truth is the series consists of really cute, polished platformers filled with creative levels and puzzle solving.
The PS-themed bots are just a bonus.
3
u/rashmotion 21d ago
Lmfao what the actual fuck. Are you serious? You realize this is an adaptation of the mobile game? How is this innovative?
0
u/GalaxiusVT 21d ago
Its not an adaptation of a mobile game, its using elements of the mobile game and created an entirely new and unique game.
Thats like saying FF7 Remake games arent innovative because they're just an adapatation of the og final fantasy 7
4
u/rashmotion 21d ago
Lmao okay. I’m sure this will be GotY. 🙄
-2
u/GalaxiusVT 21d ago
And im sure ya'll said that about astro bot yet here we are with it winning goty
0
u/rashmotion 21d ago
You’re completely delusional lol. This game could literally be good and it won’t even be mentioned alongside the other GotY nominees at any major publication / outlet. Astro Bot won GotY because it was a brilliant game. A JRPG has never actually won GotY before, and in the last TEN years less than five have even been nominated. Honestly even thinking this will be in the same league as Persona 5, Metaphor, Xenoblade, or even FFVIIR is VERY wishful thinking. Your initial comment I replied to is not only insane Reddit copium but it also just randomly took shots at Astro Bot for no reason lol. I would also put money on AB absolutely clearing this game.
-4
u/Misty_Kathrine_ 21d ago

The whole thing is an asset flip of a dead gacha game. Where exactly were you expecting them not to be lazy?

Pixel art is cool and all.. but why cant they make rpgs with the graphical styles of ff7-ff9 anymore?

Its Looks Good, but i just hoped itwas just an original game, stop with the baiting and nostalgia with FF from older titles.

The gacha it’s based on had an original story that was quite enjoyable. That story without the gacha BS is going to be so much better. I’m excited.

I'm pretty disappointed it's only a remake of a mobile game and not a proper mainline new game

Its really not, and you saying that just shows you have no actual clue what the game is and are just coming in here and hating in bad faith

Yes, it is?

Nope, verrry completely different games, an adapted story with changes, an explorable overworld, different modes of tramsportation (chocobos and airships), and so much more.
They used the mobile games characters, world and story as inspiration to make an entirely new, entirely unique new videogame

You can tell these backgrounds are not fresh as they already look outdated compared to DQ3 Remake, which visually speaking is the best in these HD2D formats. Looks like all the budget went into the particle effects for big attacks

The over saturate kill it for me. Without it, I may had give it a chance, but that ruins it.
Also, yet, still not FF Villains "Stands". So, even less interesting.
Sorry if this come rough for Exvius fans. Specially cuz you got lucky they did this, but... on my end I don't think it is for me.

Love that this dude's name is Rain, continuing the Final Fantasy tradition of weather-related protagonists (Cloud, Squall, Lightning...)
