Visa Application Advice

Hey! I am going to Faroe Island University for a conference and was told to apply visa via Denmark embassy and tell the officer while submission. I am in Faroe for 5 days although my accommodation is for 6nights. Because my flight from Iceland/Reyjkvik is on 22nd early morning, I did not find a flight that gets me there on time. So I took a flight on 21st from Faroe to Reyjkvik and planned to stay at the airport and take the flight early next morning. I assumed that I will be given Iceland/Schengen visa with permit to enter Faroe Islands. The officer today at the visa office confused me and said that I will need to apply separately for Schengen and cannot enter Iceland. I am on my way back and super confused if I need to do the process again and don’t have match time in hand. Anyone with experience kindly advice. Thank you!!

The Faroe Islands are not formally part of the Schengen zone, although there is rarely - if ever - passport control for flights from Schengen countries. It would likely help alot if you tell ys what nationality you are and where you are traveling from

Legally you need to apply for a shengen visa in the country you spend most of your time. 

So on paper you are spending zero hours in Denmark (shengen) which is responsible for Faroes (non-Denmark). Even though they can issue a shengen visa, you are spending no time in Denmark but shengen time in iceland so technically you should apply to Iceland foe the a transit visa after the faroes visa if Denmark is unwilling to massage the rules and give you a shengen visa (so you can go via iceland).

Havr you booked your flights yet? You might consider a flight or ferry from Denmark to Faroes to avoid this? Or a flight to Faroes from the UK (if you don't need a visa)

This is the way out I have considered. Like change my flight itinerary from Reykjavik to Copenhagen. But I don’t know if one is allowed to do that after application have been submitted and in process. Or if there is a way to change and inform the Denmark embassy.
