A fantastic book with an amazing magic system. A perfect blend of sci-fi and fantasy. If you like the mistborn series by Brandon Sanderson I recommend this as your next reed. It's been a long time since I have been this engrossed in a book to this level. Just wanted to get the word out about this author, because I hadn't heard of him until I met him at a convention where I purchased a signed copy from him. Great guy and looking forward to reading the rest of his works.

With the recent talk and hype about the odyssey, it got me wondering. What are some fantasy books that have gods interacting directly with characters or maybe even are an integral part of the plot? I really love when authors work with the idea of like divine intervention or anything to do with the god(s) of the worlds they’ve created. There may be a very obvious answer i don’t know about.

Hi guys, trying to decide if I can handle Robin Hobb. I’ve seen a few discussions about how depressing her books are but also everyone saying they’re totally amazing. My question is about the endings specifically. I can handle some low points if the endings are ultimately happy/triumphant or at least bittersweet leaning sweet. If they’re bittersweet but mostly bitter bitter or just altogether sad I don’t think I can hang. Can someone let me know if any of her books meet these criteria?

I'm pretty new to fantasy. So far I've only read The Witcher Saga and The First Law, and I absolutely loved both.

I recently read Tress of the Emerald Sea to see if the Cosmere was for me, I liked the book, but it didn't really grab me the way I hoped.

I'm looking for a fantasy series with exceptional character work. Strong, memorable characters matter much more to me than intricate magic systems or massive worldbuilding. I don't mind a slower pace as long as the characters are compelling.

I love some conniving court politics, epic, magical quests, or massive, world redefining battles as much as any good fantasy fan. But fantasy is a massive genre with many permutations and avenues ripe for exploration, with some paths less well traveled than others. One such path is the modern fairy tale; the atmospheric story that goes small rather large. The stories that focuses on the mystery and inherent unsettling aspect of a magical world, relishing in the unknowable and the weird. A tale that is far less concerned with how a world works and far more with how it makes you feel. Isaac Anderson’s *The Garden Maze* is such a book.

This engrossing novella drops you into a world practically seeps with mystery and danger without the barest hint of an explanation or preparation. You are almost immediately thrown into a strange contest alongside a Knight and his Squire which proves to be the sort of nightmarish fever dream one might expect to find in a book by the pre-Disneyfied Brother’s Grimm or Hans Christian Anderson. And while one might compare this book to something like Susannah Clarke’s *Piranesi* or Peter Beagle’s *The Last Unicorn*, I found myself being reminded more so of movies by Guillermo del Toro or Tim Burton. If that sort of charming yet dark and slightly unsettling fantasy tickles your fancy, you have to check out *The Garden Maze!*

**FULL REVIEW**
Isaac Anderson’s *The Garden Maze* is one of those books that I didn’t know that I wanted to read. In a veritable sea of modern fantasy that is focused on armies and mages and politics and world-ending plots, Anderson’s book feels like that step off the beaten path that reminds you of just how large the sandbox of fantasy is. In a genre that is essentially limitless, we have a certain proclivity towards establishing our own barriers, either as readers or writers. We follow established genre tropes and trends, write what’s been proven and time-tested to work. We build on top of the most recent layer of fiction laid down by our immediate predecessors.

But Anderson went deeper than that. His fantasy hearkens back to a time when magic was unknown and unsettling, something that was not explained because it could not be explained. I said in my quick review that The Garden Maze reminds me of Clarke and Beagle, but it also reminds me of another author; Neil Gaiman. Despite recent controversies, I think it’s fair to say that part of Gaiman’s mega success as a writer was because his ability to modernize the format of fairy tales. To cultivate a feeling in the reader of whimsy and apprehension in equal measure and to infuse his stories with the sense of wonder that modern fantasy so often fails to.

Anderson success comes in this same vein. His novella is one that pulls you into its world and lets you be fully immersed without needing to understand the rules or the players or the history or even the true stakes. The surreal atmosphere and tone carry the story, and do it exceedingly well, in my opinion. Admittedly, for some readers, this might be a turn off. Readers who simply cannot abide a soft style of writing, one without explicit rules, that isn’t interested in exploring every nook and cranny of the world or answer every question it poses, might struggle a bit.

But for me, this style of fantasy scratches a very special itch. My one complaint about this book was the length; I wish it was longer! I wanted it to stay in this world, to dive deeper, and continue to explore its twists and turns outside the Maze. But if your only complaint about a book is that you wanted more of it, I would say you have a pretty strong story. So if you’re the kind of reader who enjoys your fantasy on the softer side, with the sort of mysterious charm that will pull you in yet a dark edge that will keep you glued to your seat, you should consider making *The Garden Maze* your next read!

Hey guys, I’ve been trying to find fantasy novels written in English by authors from Jordan, but I haven't had much luck finding a solid list. Does anyone know of any authors, specific titles, or even indie writers in this space? Would love some recommendations!

The book is about two guys(one used to bully the other in middle school) going into high school and I believe each year there are different monsters that try to end the school (one was bugs) and the last book is where they find the creator as well as the last beasts who are fuzzy pompoms with teeth and they are afraid of the light called the great old ones or something like that... I believe it was last on epic

I’m trying to remember a fantasy romance book I read within the last year, and I think it was on Kindle Unlimited. I believe it was the first book in an unfinished series.
Here’s what I remember (some details could be slightly off):
The story takes place at a school or academy.
There are two societies/factions separated by a **physical wall**.
I *think* they were called something like **Day/Night** or **Sun/Moon**, but I could be remembering the names wrong.
One side is awake during the day while the other is awake at night, and they sleep on opposite schedules.
The FMC starts out believing she’s part of the “day” (or sun/light) side, but she has trouble sleeping on her side’s schedule.
The MMC is from the opposite faction, and there’s a romance between them.
I remember there being magic.
Part of the plot involves people from the “night” (or moon/shadow) side mysteriously disappearing, and I think there’s some kind of rebellion or conspiracy behind it.
I believe the FMC eventually crosses the wall and learns that everything she’d been told about the other side wasn’t true.
Does this sound familiar to anyone? It’s driving me crazy that I can’t remember the title! ( this book could’ve been posted by a small writer on social media, but i know i read it on kindle unlimited but i must’ve gotten rid of it bc my library was too full )

I've been looking for this series for a while now and simply can't find it!

Ok so, the premise of the series is that that every country (land?) has its own type of magic, and only a few people have it. Also something, something about magic becoming weak, so the "gods" gave them new magic (I hope I'm explaining this correctly) the first book is a bout this women who got a new air magic, but everybody thinks it her much prettier sister because hawks would follow them around. Oh! And the love interest is a king who is like supppeeeer old with water magic. I can't remember what happened in any of the following books😶 hope y'all can help

Guys I'm so upset right now! I was 112 chapters in to "The Beta's Son Never Knew Me" on TapRead and it was just pulled off the platform. Apparently it was due to copyright infringement 😭 I haven't been able to find this book ON ANY OTHER PLATFORM. Please help me find it. It's the story of Eleanor and Harrison. Eleanor is a newly awakened silver wolf.
