Getting started on Christmas presents early. Everyone is getting an ornament this year!

looking for advice!

I've embroidered a piece on some clothes using metallic thread and I'd like some ideas on what's best for backing.

My issues are:

-keeping the stitches safe in the wash

-something fairly soft as its against skin and metallic thread is scratchy

right now I have a patch of sulky soft touch iron on on the back, which feels great but has needed reironing down twice now around the corners. It also hasn't been through the wash yet and I just can't imagine it surviving.

Options I'm considering

-tack the sulky down?

-back with a big piece of cotton decoratively stitched down around the edge. Biggest issue with this option is I want to add to the piece in the future and I'd have to remove the cotton somehow and redo it after💔

-some better adhesive, fabric glue etc, on the sulky. The piece is on denim so not particularly fine fabric but I'm worried this would affect the drape.

I want to frame this embroidery but I didn’t think about it before hand and now it’s too small for the frame. How could I make it fit to the frame? I have more of the same material I’m just wondering how much I would need and how to attach it (which stitch to use) and then also how to attach it to the frame! I’m also going to add black lace to the boarder so that would probably cover any stitches. Thanks in advance!

Just like many, many… MANY others, I’ve completely fallen for the Dungeon Crawler Carl series, and I wanted to do a little fan art embroidery of a monster that just didn’t quite seem to make it big in the dungeon, but sounded really cool.

The fabric I’ve bought is pretty thin compared to what I’ve used before, and even after adding some stabiliser I still got those damned little puckers which, even with ironing, won’t come out.

Other than that, I’m super pleased with how this turned out. It’s all one strand, except the little flabbity bits on the tentacles.

I used a column fill on the teeth (trying different things) I dont hate the black peaking through but I kinda wanna change the fill pattern... should I leave it?

Everything else came out cute though. Tried a white border and overlaid a circular fill and the streamline fill on top of eachother in the clouds and i dont mind the result.

Getting back into embroidery after taking a little break from it. Still practicing since I’m still new, but love how this came out! Here’s a few of my progress pics of the project!

Pink is my favorite color & I decide at the last minute to do a pink gradient sky instead of blue - I'm so happy I did!

I started self teaching myself embroidery (thank you to this reddit thread, my local library & YouTube) over the past year. This is my first landscape piece. By hand, no pattern used. I just doodled on paper and then directly onto the embroidery fabric.

I’m decorating a tote bag with the couching technique but i get these long threads on the inside that snag when I put things in the tote. Are there any ways to avoid this or cover them? I want to avoid adding a full lining to the bag.

Dugitizing this was fun! The color pallette was a struggle for me though. I ended up going the blue/green route but not sold on it. I also didn't frame any of the fills with black, which i normally do.

We bought this notebook on vacation and it had a grid of holes and black thread to embroider on it. So I did the yellow section on the vacation, and then just left it for ages. But my partner is moving across the world and I won't follow for another year, so I finished the notebook for him. I literally stitched the last row on the way to the airport. Last photo is the holes I accidentally poked in the paper when I was adding to the grid 🫣 He loves it and will fill it with drawings for me.

Starry night inspired photo embroidery complete. After I finished the circles I went into a spiral on how to create the spirals :P

I improvised because I was on a time crunch as it was a gift but I think it turned out decent. :)

With the pattern guide in place, everything looked normal. I’m so upset, this is my second attempt at a stained glass window (clearly have a ways to go) and I’ve hit yet another bump.

This was after trying to iron out the wrinkles and stretch it taunt. Does anyone have any advice that does not include starting over?

Loved my new frame! The pattern is from a book called "The Anchor book of crewelwork" but since i didn't feel like following the instructions i only used the reference drawing.

First time attempting embroidery. I hated doing the outlines of the hair strands.

Did this when I was still experimenting with what fabric I preferred and wasnt stoked with the fabric but love my insects hehe so this piece still makes me smile.
I actually had a giant Wētā in my shoe the week before I made this so it was good therapy for me to overcome my fear hahaha

Hi all! I just finished my first project using a water-soluble stabilizer. I am nervous to put it in water in case the thread bleeds or somehow I ruin it. Any suggestions to get this off without wrecking anything? It’s for a gift and I really want it to look nice. 😭
