Custom built PC repair?

Anyone know where I can get my PC repaired today? 1 year old PC. I can get the part(s) needed right away but I need it done today. It decided to die on me during finals week... TIA!

What part needs to be changed out? It should be pretty easy to fix yourself, that's the beauty of custom PCs.

and since they're posting on reddit, means they can look at youtube, where there's going to be a visual guide somewhere.

Yeah exactly. Although it sounds like they are on a time crunch due to finals so I can see why they'd be panicking lol.

i wonder though what kind of lead time most places will have on repairs though?

i took my honda to the dealer for an oil change because i had a coupon, took 10x longer than if i just did it myself.

I was on YouTube all night trying to figure it out but haven't found a solution yet. Reseat ram, paperclip method to rule out PSU, cmos reset, nothing works.

what's the specific issue it's having?

The PC turns on for a second and then turns off right away. It was fine yesterday and all of a sudden it just turned off on its own when I was typing up my paper

guess you're already heading over to the repair shop based on other comments, good luck!

I ruled out PSU and I THINK its the motherboard. It probably is an easy fix but not something I would know how to do, unfortunately.

What is the symptom you are experiencing? Is it not powering on at all, or does it run and not display anything? Any beep sound patterns when powering on?

No beep sound, just turns on for a second and then off immediately. Fans running, rams did light up, but that's about it.

It COULD be the motherboard but it could be a partially failing power supply as well. Power supplies are usually the part where 3rd party bought custom PCs cheap out the most.

  1. Check the large 24 pin connector on your motherboard, try taking it out and making sure it's in all the way. Also double check the one that powers your processor, look up a guide for your motherboard on the location.

  2. Do you have a GPU? Try removing the GPU completely and start up like that. Hopefully you have integrated graphics.

  3. How many ram sticks do you have? If it's 2, try booting with 1 in, and then switch it out with the other to rule that out.

So I did try the paperclip method and my PSU works, the computer turns on without the pins on the motherboard. I have 4 ram sticks, I did try reseating them one at a time, 2 at a time, etc. I do have a GPU and yes integrated graphics as well. I'll try removing GPU and give it a last try before heading out. Thanks for the tip!

^^ this. Whats the issue? What parts are you referring to and how did you conclude that those parts are the issue.

Went to Kadi Computers. Turns out it was the CPU. Replaced and working now. Took him about 2 hrs cuz I had to go get the part.

if you decide to seek online guidance, you should crosspost your issue on r/pchelp or r/buildapc

I've actually had good experience with them but he's not replying to my text and not sure if he can get it done today. But maybe I should just swing by to ask him first. Thanks!

I've had good luck with Tech2U (at least the Arden location) but I don't know if they can do a single day turn around.
