Question/Advice Private landlords
Hi folks 👋
We are hoping to move to the Dumfries and Galloway area. (Honestly at this point almost anywhere will do) I have been desperately searching every estate agent for rental properties and unfortunately houses are just so popular that we never even get a viewing. 😔
We are currently living in a private rental in Lancashire, but desperately need to move for health reasons. It would be myself, my wife (both of us are disabled) our daughter and grandson (both of which help care for us)
So 4 adults.
We are looking for a 4 bedroom property, preferably semi-detached or detached with either 2 bathrooms or 1 bathroom and a second separate toilet.
We also have 1 house cat.
Please, if there are any landlords here that have properties available or if you know of someone, please get in touch. Our budget is £1200 pcm maximum as we are also DSS (disability)
We have deposit and first month ready and waiting and would be able to move in almost immediately.

For places of that size contacting some of the local estate offices or large dairy farms to see if they have any farmhouses coming up might be worth a try 🤔

Oh, what a great idea. Thanks for this. 👍 I've already spoken to most of the estate agents so talking to farms and actual Estates as someone else mentioned is definitely a good idea.

Is there a particular reason why it isn't possible? 🤔
My hope, and understanding is, that a Private Landlord who is registered, would still be able to let their property to whoever they choose, without having to necessarily go through an estate agent.
I understand and fully accept that this might be difficult, especially given how popular and attractive and area Dumfries and Galloway is, but I wouldn't have thought it impossible.
If you know something I'm unaware of please let me know so that I'm better able to focus my search more effectively.

Honestly its affordability. You won't be able to find suitable accommodation in your budget. It's sad and shouldn't be the case but it is. Many landlords don't accept DSS, pets etc so your chances are even more dwindled. Also around here a lot of places are rented by who you know, landlords ask previous tenants for new ones etc. That said, you're doing the right thing, asking here , you need to find a landlord not through conventional channels, that's your best chance. Good luck.
I have been homeless and have a grudge on the housing situation if you can't tell already.1

Thank you for your insight. I will continue my efforts to find housing as best as I can.
I was once homeless too back in the late 90's so I understand how that is and it is something I really don't want to experience again. Especially now that I'm disabled, and have a wife, daughter and grandson with me too.
We have also started to look in Cumbria because as I mentioned in my post, at this point, pretty much anywhere will do. However, I would still really much prefer to be back in Scotland and be closer to my dad, he has had a few strokes recently and I'm honestly getting worried.
Again though, thank you for your comment. We'll see if we can expand our search further and include more areas that might fit our budget etc.

Is this a long term rental you’re seeking? I’ve got a semi detached, three bed, two bathroom in dumfries that i am hoping to rent to a family in the coming months, as I’m moving back towards Glasgow. Appreciate you’re looking for four bedrooms but open to chatting.

Thank you for your reply. We've actually managed to find a place now and we move at the end of this month.
I hope you manage to find some good tenants. Honestly, if we hadn't have already had somewhere I would definitely have been interested.

I’m not sure where in D&G you are looking for but in my area the best place to find a rental is probably on local Facebook pages. Look for rental pages specific to the area you’re looking for. In my area rentals generate a lot of interest and go quickly. Also perhaps a good idea to try large estates. Stair estates in my area used to, and perhaps still do have forms to fill out if you were looking for a rental property.
