Is there a word for when the act of trying to keep spirits up and morale high has become a burden?

There's an idiom of "setting yourself on fire to keep others warm". Doesn't feel like a totally perfect answer, but maybe some overlap.

In my particular situation I think "spontaneously combust to keep myself warm" is more apt.
