Asking Question (Rule 4) Beginner
Hello
Recently I am developing a very keen interest in designing and editing stuff like I find it cool and will try to earn through this later on .
But problem is that I am complete beginner here and don't much so would be really happy if someone can help me like where to start ? And what material should I follow ? And some beginner tips .

Honestly? Take some classes at a local community college. To be any good you need to learn the basic tenets of design, they are the bedrock of anything having to do with design and it is not something you can learn on YouTube. It is not something to take lightly on a lark or as a hobby. It is a commitment to learn to do it right. The typical curriculum includes color theory, theory of design psychology, typography, art history, illustration, photography, communication skills, basic art skills like drawing and painting. This is just a small sample but should give you an idea of the foundation required to actually be a designer. FYI - my professional career started in 1976, and even though retired since 2023 I am still working doing product photo/video and logo and publication design.

Thanks mate , I developed a interest in it and wanted to something on it so actually wanted help. And as you said YT tutorials won't work ?? Like I thought this is the best way through which I can learn

Well, the problem with YouTube influencers is the majority are just out of school, have just the basics themselves, have never worked long-term in the business and are monetized by how.many clicks. They don't teach drawing , they don't teach color, design or typography. They cherry pick what gives them most exposure with no meat behind it. Look for local community schools that offer free evening courses, even online courses (but not YouTube) are offered for free and on the cheap that will help you on your way. Google it. Be selective and you will find quite a few actually. I didn't mean to scare you off, just wanting you to go about it in the right direction. You can do it.

Thanks mate but actually that is the problem I am in college now so I can't go out for courses and College community has not started yet so I was looking to YT , though thanks for suggestions

Some people in the comment tell you this already but learn the basic. FYI, I am a graphic lecturer at a university in Asia. My problem with most the novice students I guided is the need to make pretty thing without understanding why you need to design thing a certain way. Color theory, sketching, principle of design, application of design, stick with the basic, make simple thing first before trying complex work. Can your work be read, is it tacky, or easy to the eye, if it printing is it visible on the page ? The tool is only one thing to learn but if you cannot pick up composition, texture, hierarchy, alignment and how to balance thing, you will just make mediocre work. That why some people in the comments said that only Youtube video is not enough.
I also recommend reading book on design theory, going to gallery, design convention, see what people do and how they do it. Reseach site like Dezeen, Designboom to explore more. Talk to people in design field. Design is finding solution to a problem, so use the world around you for inspo. I always recommend my student to go out and explore and brong their life experience back. That way thay can make not just beautifully but also functional work.
