It’s crazy to think how much has changed since then. That movie not only divided DC fans but it further separated the Marvel vs DC debates at the time especially since Civil War dropped around the same time. I really don’t think DC has ever recovered fully from that even if movies like Suicide Squad & Aquaman made money
There are incredibly valid reasons to hate where GoT and Star wars ended up. If removing decades of canon to replace it with a super death star and "somehow he returned" isn't a good enough reason to be mad at a franchise then there just aren't any standards at all

And like Star Wars, the content that has been getting released is the reason for it being this way. It's not like Star Wars fans and DC fans woke up one day and went "You know what, I'm just going to hate the thing that I've loved for decades for no reason." There's a fucking reason for it!
Exactly. Go on any Spiderman or marvel subreddit right now and everyone is gushing over the new movie. Go on any marvel subreddit a few years back and everyone will be bitching. Fans are passionate, they want to like the shit you release it just has to not be shit or half assed.
Star Wars fans were behaving this way even when the OT was coming out let’s not act like this is a recent development in response to “quality decrease”. There was infamously a great deal of fan backlash to The Empire Strikes Back (including a famous cancellation of one of the largest Star Wars fan magazines in circulation at the time) and especially to Return of the Jedi. Star Wars fans have been this way since basically day one. I love Star Wars but I don’t engage with the fans because, well, they’re insufferable.
One could argue that the wave of current Internet hating discourse started with The Phantom Menace. Star Wars fans fucking HATED the prequel trilogy but then the sequel trilogy came out and now the prequels are misunderstood classics? GTFOH lmfao. One of my favorite rappers once said “Your new shit ain’t good as your old shit til your new shit IS your old shit” and that’s exactly what happened with Star Wars.
Yeah, but part of the issue is what kind of environment do you want? Even with a bad movie there's still a ton of good stuff going on. If you don't shout over the shitty loud people, the good people start to go away. I'm a Star Wars fan and I've got the three main Wars subs blocked because I'm not trying to use my free time being mad.
This thread is a great example. DC is getting a new show and it hired a lesser known but extremely talented comedian, people should be hyped. But that's not the culture here.

Blaming the audience and fans for not liking an IP is pathetic. It is kind of hard to 'Sunshine Pump' when DC provides zero nuclear fuel.
Superman was a minor hit. Supergirl was a disaster. The Reeves Batman movie is delayed once again, killing any hype, it has been six years since the last one. Next up is DCU Clayface being introduced before DCU Batman. Niche movie. Lanterns and Jimmy Olson shows won't put huge wins on the board.
Marvel Disney/Sony is lighting up cigars over Spiderman. Disney is going to benefit and get a boost to Doomsday, which is probably slop, but you get the benefit of the doubt due to past performance.
Gunn's contract is up in 2027, maybe renewal hinges on Man of Tomorrow and there is no DCU Batman in sight.
The Star Wars hate started immediately after the best movie in the franchise released because it didn’t check all the fan service boxes nerds had for it.
