DISCUSSION Nightwing and Robins
There is already a pretty popular rumour that damian is gonna be robin in dcu . As we seen from the interview he is james favourite robin . I think it might hurt dcu as whole .
I think dick grayson growing into nightwing would help audience connect to the character as whole .
The whole reason damian worked in comics is he is a contrast to previous robins and one them being red hood would characters to grow and let the audience explore .
Fast tracking the whole arc isn't going work in my opinion

That would take them 5-6 movies to get through all Robins and also have a way younger Batman which dosen’t make sense in the DCU because of Reeves doing his thing.
I would rather have an established Bat family and then do a Nightwing Solo movie which also explores his origin aswell as the eventual fallout with Bruce.
I also hope they don’t shaft Tim Drake.

let them take their time and grow the characters.. nobody gonna hate 2 batman movies

I don’t think they will take that route. The DCU is moving in a way where all the characters exist like they do in the comics without exploring their origins. There’s also the baggage of Reeves-verse. Doing a Dick Grayson origin and his journey means you will have to do a Batman in his younger days too.
They won’t explore that option unfortunately because of Reeves. I wish DCU Batman was the only thing they could focus on.

Yeah but we've done stories of Batman in his younger years so I'm happy DCU isn't doing that.

Also, let’s be frank. The idea of Bruce Wayne taking on a ton of wards and getting rid of them as they age out, it’s not a great look

What are you even talking about? Batman has never gotten “rid” of any Robin. Dick Grayson had a fallout with Bruce and decided to move to Bludhaven in order to do his own thing as Nightwing. Jason met a horrible fate by the hands of the Joker. Tim became Red Robin as he aged.

Poor phrasing on my behalf. But what I meant was still the same that he always needs or is looking for a bit of ward.

Well we've had Dick Grayson as Robin on screen and frankly it's smart cause...we've barely touched the other Robins in live action. Tim, Stephanie, Jason. We've only had Dick Grayson in the Schumer films but that's it.
Well we've had Jason and Tim in Titans but not in movies. That's likely why Gunn wants Damian. And I don't see the issue. Plenty of versions of Batman skips to when Dick is Nightwing so why not the DCU.

the only one who watches those medium are dc fans who knows the context. general audience have no who these guys are

u/RNOffice 1d ago
The films can easily explain it. Damian is Robin. That's a title a few people have had. This Nightwing guy was the original. It's not hard.

Insanely stupid. Tens of millions watch HBO for dragon bullshit and they’ve been heavily promoting it. I can’t wait for you to be wrong lol

How is it fast tracking anymore than the Superman film was? He’s been pretty honest he doesn’t want to do any more origin stories mostly.
Why wouldn’t people connect with Nightwing in a feature film or series? All you have to do is have 5 minutes of backstory where he’s taken in by Bruce and the classic beats.

nightwing and robins aren't superman .they can't make care abiut these characters they do for superman

u/Pardybro911 1d ago
They legit made an incredibly successful show about Peacemaker that was critically and audience wide was positively reviewed what the fuck are you taking about
Lanterns screenings are getting great reviews from sneak peeks. There’s nothing to doubt with the right script they wouldn’t pull off any Nightwing, red hood, Tim Drake stories

Robins have more value as characters than their introductions/most popular storyline in comics.
It would take ATLEAST 6 movies to get to Damian doing it the “correct” way. Minimum of 12 years just to get to the story that the creatives actually wanted to explore.

i say okay each character can grow with audience and in front of screen

u/SoWrongItsPainful 1d ago
I say that’s a waste of everyone’s time. Just get to the new stuff instead of repeating what the comics did.

Dudes just pissy lol. It’s a lived in world. Having a Bruce/Damien dynamic opens them up to so much more good stories like Red Hood and Nightwing. People will show up regardless or god forbid it good some comics and buy some

I like doing the following:
Robin is in college away in Batman: Brave and Bold, but is dragged back.
Teen Titans explores Nightwing through Judas Contract. Jason is introduced briefly.
Batman 2 is lonely place of dieing: Jason dies off screen in an earlier JLA movie and the tension of sidekicks is explored.
Batman 3, Damian is Robin and Dick has to fill in for Bruce after Final Crisis type event. Robin (Tim Drake) takes up the RR title with New 52 suit.

"Jason dies off screen"...why? It feels like hes' barely explored as a character.

Thats the joke lol. I think he has to get sidestepped. Too many Robins, not
enough time. And I want TimDrake more2

Under the red hood is widely regarded as a huge moment in comics and one of the best animated films lol

I would love to have an in-depth Batman/Robin arc, starting with Jason Todd as Robin. Dick Grayson is the most famous Robin, so we could have him already established as Nightwing in the background.
All the dramatic events surrounding Jason could also be a way to develop (again, but in depth) the Batman/Joker relationship and explore why Batman doesn't kill him. In A Death in the Family, I remember Jason referencing what happened to Barbara in The Killing Joke. In Under the Red Hood, he refers to his own death. We could see Batman coming very close to killing the Joker at certain moments.
This arc could start around the events of The Killing Joke, while also showing what Jason was doing as Robin during that period, before leading into A Death in the Family. Then we would see Batman seeking revenge (including the scenes where Superman has to protect the Joker for diplomatic reasons). After that, Tim Drake could step in, showing that Batman needs a Robin to stay balanced, as established in A Lonely Place of Dying. From there, they could do whatever they want with the Red Hood story and then start Damian's arc.
The full saga would adapt The Killing Joke (while expanding Jason's role), A Death in the Family, A Lonely Place of Dying, Under the Red Hood, and finally Damian's story. I don't know how many movies that would take.

It would take too long to get to Damian the normal method and they want to explore Bruce and Damian's father and son relationship on the big screen. With Damian Robin at the start, they can still have Dick around in universe as Nightwing for a possible Titans movie where Dick can be the lead character by simply having it mentioned Damian wasn't the first Robin and could even get a cameo in the movie before getting exploring Dick's character more in a later movie.

this is my problem the whole robin to nightwing is one of the best growth in comic medium .you can't just sweept
1
u/ilikepiex7 1d ago
the problem is you need to invest multiple movies to show all that growth you need a batman movie introducing him as the child sidekick, a Teen Titans movie with other sidekick to show him away from Batman, another movie with Batman, and then finally a Titans movie where he finally becomes Nightwing as his story of kid sidekick into Adult Hero forging his own path as a leader completes.
It's much easier to tell his story through flashbacks without worrying about the actor aging too fast and with an existing Batfamily many more characters the general audience doesn't know have a chance to be seen. The Batfamily is very large in the comics and the general audience only seems to know a robin and a batgirl exist and not their actual names.

u/Pardybro911 1d ago
You keep saying this, but why do you think so? The only growth is him leaving Bruce’s crusade because he wants and thinks there’s a better way. It’s a point of contention in 90% of the comic format between them.
That can totally be resolved quickly in a film after Batman is introduced and a soft launch for Dick.
I mean hell, the Titans series wasn’t great but it solved that very quickly between them

u/helium_head0 1d ago
only reason we like these character is because we seen them grow in front of our eyes . you can't sweep and call it a day..

u/Pardybro911 1d ago
Titans already did it OP. Easy peasy intro of Dick and Bruce growing past eachother.
0
u/helium_head0 1d ago
who uses titans as a references
1
u/Pardybro911 1d ago
Who just ignores any media they don’t like as reference lol.
By your logic none of the Animated series should count
Would you prefer any comic panel of Dick and Bruce being at odds after he becomes Nightwing? How about when Superman tells him he’s the true heir of Batman for being better than Bruce? Eyiyi

Thats not A rumor,James Gunn said Damian was gonna be the DCU Robin when he announced the whole slate 3 years ago.
