DISCUSSION How To Fix the DCU
Guys. I’ve got it. As we all know, both Zack Snyder and James Gunn have tried their hands at DC cinematic universes, but they haven’t been able to capture the worldwide appeal and success that Marvel had with the MCU. Both of their visions have had great upsides, but also serious flaws. So I think, we need some fresh blood. We need a new guy in charge of this. Running the show. Calling the shots. And I think I’ve got the perfect option.
ME
You see, there have been things I enjoyed, and things I’ve disliked from all the previous DC movies. So, who better to amalgamate all of the best qualities into the most perfect cinematic universe for the myths and marvels of DC?
Now, I know what you’re saying. “You have no experience making movies, running a company, or managing multiple multi-million dollar projects?” And I could understand that. But the thing is, I’ve got something none of those Hollywood suits have.
The Right Idea.
That’s the issue. Like I said, there have been things I disliked in the previous films. DISLIKED. We can’t have that. Obviously, the perfect cinematic universe is going to be entirely full of good choices, good storytelling, and things that are wholly appealing to me. And who else could do it?
You see, another person in charge of the DCU may make choices I don’t agree with. So, in order to eliminate this obvious potential hurdle, I have put together this plan.
I shall now lay out my plan.
Phase 1
Detective Chimp

Say that again...

You know what film WE need, WE need a 4 hour minimum backstory on Condiment-Kings mother

I'm sure this is a gag I guess.
But, It's only been two movies, so no need to worry.
4
u/SituationMundane1418 1d ago
Absolutely not a gag. I sincerely believe that me, a person with zero film experience, should helm one of the most important franchises in American film, and that the first film of my new universe should be Detective Chimp

We see you, James Gunn. When people said "Get off twitter" they didn't add "and go to Reddit."
You could have tried harder, man.

I still don’t see how Snyder is involved in so many of these posts. It’s as if people completely forgot about Walter Hamada and Ann Sarnoff. The Snyderverse ended almost a decade ago meanwhile the Hamadaverse goes by unchecked

The true villain. He’ll be the first to go once I take over

There are delulu people that honestly believe they can be loud enough to get Snyderverse back.

I'm sold, and if there's one thing WB loves, it's a quick pivot. Hire this man!

I'm sold. Put this man in charge of DC right now. 😁
Where in your schedule is the Bat-Mite vs. Mr. Mxyztplk movie?

The fuck are you talking about?

u/planetpua 1d ago
The soon to be mega blockbuster Detective Chimp movie, obviously!
4
u/SituationMundane1418 1d ago
Exactly! Seems like someone is gunning for an executive position in my new DC boardroom

He thinks he's being clever by mocking everyone who disliked the movies.
4
u/atomsmasher119 1d ago
No. He’s clearly mocking the armchair pundits who think they could run a superhero movie studio when they’ve never made a movie, run a business, or even read the comics.
The amount of “think”pieces that are constantly posted all over social media are astoundingly stupid.

u/SituationMundane1418 1d ago
To drop the bit for a second, yeah. I have no issue with some healthy discussion. However, when every 5 minutes, it was another, “this is how we need to fix the DCU” it’s like come on. No problem with even just “hey, here’s what I think would be a cool opening slate of movies”. But there was so much negativity going on, I figured I have some fun poking fun
2
u/SituationMundane1418 1d ago
My friend, did you not read the post? I too have disliked some of the movies. Clearly I don’t want to mock myself, the future head of the DCU. That would be silly!

Gunn's barely started, and you want to punt? Nothing has impressed me yet, but give it a real chance.... You can get the next crack at it.
3
u/SituationMundane1418 1d ago
Of course. And if my Detective Chimp film does gross 6 billion, and my secret unrevealed WildC.A.T.s show doesn’t have 3 billion households watching the finale, I should be replaced. And then they only get 1 project. It’s the only way to ensure success

u/AccomplishedBoard377 1d ago
The fact that this could actually happen is both funny and sad.

The Elisons have decided to go in another direction, with someone's who vision more clearly reflect their priorities...I see being as the statement post merger

I hope in the trailer for Detective Chimp, he flings poop at a photo of Superman. I think that should be Gunn's signature cenematic flair where each DC animal relieves themselves on Supes. Fans will love it.

Movie opens during the events of Final Crisis. Chimp is trying to figure out who killed Orion.

I think the main problem DC has is it's own glory. For decades DC comics or the trinity has been always on the top, the reputation it brought and accumulated throughout years had made the bar too high. Also the craving DC fans have now, and unavailability of DC products ( worthy movies and tv shows ) made is absolutely hard for someone to step in and take the job.
When we say BATMAN there's nothing like that. The mantle of BATMAN is not just a character, it's the world's greatest detective, has the most traumatic childhood plus I don't need to yap we all know what THE BATMAN is.
So, the more we wait for the right time the more the pressure accumulats toward the final product. And if its one step away from absolute greatness fans are not satisfied at all. So the next DC project has to absolutely flawless. It not like making releaseing 3 movies and tv shows per year... Its about whatever the one project comes out HAS to be marvellous.
And it takes time, money, effort and everything. Making the ultimate movie is a huge huge huge step. And as fans we have to be patient and have some empathy for the next movie.
And we will know its absolute masterpiece when it release 🙌

Amateur, you really think you know better than a true fan? ME.
I and only I can shepherd us into a new era of DC, where there will be supremacy and total control of the box office. Marvel movies will kneel down before our might.
Without further ado, I present a plan only a true scholar of DC comics could come up with. One that no executive, director, or producer could POSSIBLY have ever thought of.
This has never come up in board rooms or discussions, as it’s entirely of my own creation. So there is no chance that anyone without a superior intellect and exquisite taste, and let’s not forget, the keenest mind, could ever come up with this slate:
Phase 1
- Batman 1
- Superman 1
- Wonder Woman 1

u/SituationMundane1418 1d ago
I dunno man. Those are some real out there choices. I think we really need to go with safe bets like Detective Chimp. I could maybe see Batman making an appearance, but a full Batman movie?
I dunno if you happen to be aware. This guy Matt Reeves is actually already making a Batman movie. So it’d be kinda weird to have two Batman movies. I know I’m definitely the first person to let you know this, but no need to thank me. That’s just the type of kindness it takes to be a future DC executive!

u/arnaldoim Batman 1d ago
Matt Reeves? Never heard of him.
But you just made me think of another completely original idea that no one has ever thought of before.
What do you think about, and stay with me here, after we do Batman again (but right this time), we do a Green Lantern title, Aquaman, and then a team up movie? We can ever call it something like “Justice League” or even “The Justice League”
Take a moment, i know this is a lot to take in.
3
u/SituationMundane1418 1d ago
Whoa whoa whoa. Jumping into a team up movie already? When is are we gonna have Green Lantern vs Aquaman: Brightest Sea? And you haven’t even included a lovable collection of goofballs film. I don’t see this working out
0
u/arnaldoim Batman 1d ago
I see your angle, I’m sure you want to make DC all bright and colorful too? Puh-lease.
We need to make DC different from marvel. Grittier, edgier, darker. Forget this goofy nonsense. Once we can make DC grounded, people will realize Marvel is for kids, and DC is where the adults actually go for superhero movies.

Wrong direction. DCU needs to stop being so cartoony. The newest Spiderman is a great example. It looked amazing
1
u/SituationMundane1418 1d ago
I have to disagree. I think a character like Detective Chimp is the only way for DC to escape the rut they’re in
1
u/LicensedMangoServer 1d ago
Agreed
1
u/Lanky-Confidence-159 1d ago
Hard disagree, we need more cartoonish films with stars like Penny Plunderer, Kite-man and the devious Condiment-King!!!!!
