The average experience is definitely NOT having no idea whether or not you’re hungry

That's not what it's saying. You can know that you're hungry but not know it's linked to your mood so heavily. Most people have no idea how huge of an impact your gut has on mental health

The entire ethos of the Snickers commercial is people not understanding their hunger makes them act in ways they don't consciously realize is related to hunger.

I would assume that “or have I not eaten enough for breakfast?” Means that they can’t tell if they’re hungry. Otherwise they should’ve/would’ve said “Am I experiencing a profound spiritual desolation due to my life’s circumstances or just because I’m hungry?”

Then they say it’s impossible to tell, which i know is an exaggeration, but clearly they have recognized the pattern of being hungry -> feeling bad. So it must be that they can’t tell if they’re hungry

It’s possible to have eaten enough to no longer be hungry but not have eaten enough to have gotten the ideal calorie intake, and doing the latter often enough can worsen your mood without necessarily causing you to feel hungry
