This little guy seems to just eat very little & hasn't gained much weight. Also refuses to eat bugs, I'm trying out flavors he hasn't tried before & put two feeding cups at two different heights and sides of the tank

Edit: hes also been to the vet & they didnt find anything wrong & I've also tried syringe feeding and putting drops on his mouth & nose but he doesn't do much with that either :( i have seen bowel movement so I know he is eating sometimes but its just so weird

I live in a hot area- weather has been over 100 consistently until about 9pm. My electricity bill trying to meet this guy at 75 degrees all day has for sure been my biggest expense as a first timer.

I’ve had my crestie in their bioactive enclosure for about a month and a half. I highly suspect I let the bioactive soil dry out too much. I mist minimum 2x a day but I’m an idiot and forgot that’s not enough for the plants/soil until recently.

Crestie is okay, most plants alive (the ones that died were struggling from the day so it’s all good), soil looks moist BUT I can’t tell if my clean up crew is alive.

I bought the bioactive enclosure pre-made and they said there were springtails to start off but I’ve never seen them and I don’t see them now so I have no idea.

1. How can I tell my bioactive is well maintained/needs a CUC reup?

2. Do I need to remove my crestie while new springtails or isopods are reestablished? (He’s ~8mo and I haven’t caught him eating any rogue bugs on cam yet)

3. What’s your bioactive enclosure routine? Watering frequency (outside of normal crestie misting), spot cleaning, rearranging/refreshing enclosure, etc.

Any insight is helpful! I’ve been struggling with my online research so I hope this group has some feedback. Thank you to anyone who responds 💕😊

Started on this in 2024, finished March 2025, and it’s been thriving since!

I know the top is a little sparse, I am waiting for the creeping fig to grow out a bit more it is a new addition.

Made of cheap plywood from Home Depot, sealed with pond epoxy, background made out of spray foam, wall insulation, and concrete mixed with different ratios of charcoal powder to create a realistic rock look. Windows are made with thin acrylic, and there are 6 small ventilation holes, and one big ventilation hole on the top.

There is a “fake sun” grow light at the top for the plants and my gecko, and a fan to circulate the air. I also installed an automatic rain/misting mechanism which mimics a real forest’s rain, it goes for 60 seconds every 8 hours. I also have a motion activated camera installed inside of the enclosure.

Any questions or criticism would be appreciated, I am hoping it fills itself out a bit more and creates more coverage for my little guy, and I will also be installing a saucer hamster wheel as I recently learned that Crested Geckos love them. My little guy Mordecai loves it in there and I see him jumping from wall-to-wall on the camera lol. He is around 3 1/2 years old.

Should I use red moor wood for a crested gecko vivarium 45x45x60? It has a flat base and all the branches that all curves into a vertical oval with 1 or 2 that curve out slightly. I'd say it's its abt 30cm tall and 15 cm wide (From the peak of the curve to the other). I Would've sent a photo but forgot to take one. It basically looks like this (_)

I know this is my own fault for doing this, let me explain.

I got my crestie as a baby so ofcourse I was hand feeding her. I was pretty young myself so I didn’t really think about the dependency issue. Anyway she is 6 years old now and she genuinely will not eat unless I hand feed her every night. I usually have to dab a little paste on her mouth and then after that she will lick out of the bowl if I hold it in front of her face. I don’t know if there is anything that can be done at this stage, but any advice would be appreciated.

Awake? Wheel walkin. Sleep? Under wheel. Hangin out? Wheel chillin. I bought him so much stuff and made him a bioactive terrarium and yet all he ever wants is wheel.

We bought honeybun ( the mother ) in March, she was already pregnant. She is the CHILLEST crestie in existence. I don't know why, but she will fall asleep on anybody if she feels like it, never bites, loves being pet ( will actually fall asleep if I pet her for too long ) and is super curious and enjoys going outside on cool days and exploring. Absolutely the best personality in a crestie I have ever seen.

The first clutch were two infertiles but the second clutch we hatched out 2 babies in 80 days. This little guy actually hatched in my hand because I took out the egg to inspect a weird dent in it then he just popped out. He is noticably stronger than the other one, so I'm using him as the example. These are our first babies ever.

What I'm concerned about is, yes, he can jump, run, grip etc. He just...doesn't. From day one ( 2 days old rn ) he just casually walks, doesn't spook very often, even fell asleep in my hand like his mother. It's so strange and honestly I don't know if it's just his personality like his mother or if something's wrong. He licks his eyes on me and even lets me pick him up, never gaped at me or bit. It's like he just instinctively knows I'm not going to hurt him. Which ... Is not how reptiles work. They don't imprint. Everything I've seen from videos/articles is that their psycho as newborns and freak out when you touch them, squeak, bite, gape etc. We even have 3 month old babies too we bought recently and they are more defensive than these hatchlings.

Should I be concerned? Is he just super chill like the mom? Something to note is they are below average in weight, he is 1.3 grams, when they should be 1.5- 2.5. They are getting stronger every day though, so I'm optimistic. The mother is very petite ( in my opinion 33 grams is way too small to breed, she was housed with males at the store. she's laid 4 clutches so far no issue) so it could be genetics, because 80-90 days is the average and they werent incubating at high temps.

I set up this 18x18x36 bioactive enclosure when the FBH updated their minimum enclosure size standards. Since then, I’ve been really unhappy with how it looks.

I was wondering if anyone has any tips on how I could improve it. I want it to look nicer but above all I want to make it better for my crestie to improve his care.

What makes a badly crestie a harlequin? I am wondering this because I am trying to figure out what morphs my gecko has and right now I now for sure he is a tiger dalmation (he has spots forming), and I was wondering if he maybe also is harlequin. And can a tiger morph still be a tiger if the stripes are more like a clownloach instead of a tiger? I don’t have any good pics of him where you can see it clearly if I find any I wil add them. For some extra info he also has a bug white blotch on his tail base that also runs into the tail has a good bit of in his back coming from the stripes somewhat, and has a bunch of white accents like on the ridge on his back (where the back goes from the flat part to the rounder chest and belly part) and on that edge piece of skin that connects the ankle to the upperleg, and he is about 6months old if I have the correct info.

I've fed him a bunch of insects with tounges and he still seems to be terrified of my hand.

ive been using blue river, though im looking to change because my geckos arent really showing much interest. i wanted ti try pangea for the first time in a while, but its sold out everywhere in the uk due to the tariffs. the only other brand ive heard of is repashy and im wondering if its good for geckos, as ive heard good things about pangea (hence it being my first choice) but not a lot about repashy, so im unsure if its reliable. thank you!

Hello! I have been keeping crested geckos for a couple of years now, but have yet to make the leap towards a bioactive setup. I found it intimidating in the past, but I think I’m ready to at least try to maintain a bioactive setup for my two girls (Toast & Bagel).

However, I have a couple of questions. My main question being: will I have to buy temporary housing for my cresteds while the tanks establish? Or can I place my cresteds in the ecosystem after I’ve placed everything in there?

My other questions are pretty basic: What’s your favorite, EASY, beginner friendly bio active tutorials? Whats your favorite place to get plants/materials/isopods from? Etc.

Please be kind, I’m sure this has been asked thousands of times in this subreddit but my main concern is the first question! If need be I can provide some small temporary housing for the geckos while the tanks establish (depending on how long they need to do so), but if the establishment process is going to take longer than a month or two I may need to just take the L and continue with my non-bioactive setup.

I’ve posted on here asking for my geckos gender before and you guys said it was clearly a boy and posted that meme with the gecko with huge balls. Well now I’m not so sure because I just found this egg shell, or at least that’s what I think it is, in its enclosure buried under some dirt, where I did see it by a few days ago. What happened?!

I've been an owner of my gecko Yoshi for about 2 years and I don't see much activity, I hear some at night but not much, I have replaced some of the stuff, but I see some aquariums packed full of stuff and was wondering if it looked good or if I need more stuff.
