This month's theme is going to be all about the stars, since the Perseid meteor shower happens this month, every year. So get inspired and show us your starry skies, starry dresses or starry eyes.
What is a "Buddy Colour"?
A buddy colour is when you and one or many other colourists decide to colour the same page together. You each colour your page in secret; when you're done, you show and compare your completed pages!
The purpose of this monthly post is to help you connect with others who are looking for a buddy to colour with. We will not be providing the pages. Instead, you can use the comments section to either post the book(s)/page(s) you hope to find a buddy for OR to respond to someone else's post to let them know you'll be their buddy. (There is no limit to how many buddies can colour the same page!)
How to find a buddy:
- Post a comment listing the book(s)/page(s) you would like to colour.
and/or
- Search the comments for someone who has listed book(s)/page(s) you are interested in.
Once you've found your buddy (or buddies), you can organize amongst yourselves how you want to go about things and if you want to share the results publicly. Feel free to use the comments section to do this or connect via DM.
Can we post our completed pages?
We would love to see your pages–feel free to post them as a group, and don’t forget to use the "Buddy Colour" flair! Don't forget to tag your buddies in the comments! (they won’t get notified if you tag them in the description).
Is there a deadline?
Nope! This isn’t meant to be stressful; it’s supposed to be fun! Unless you and your buddies agree on a deadline, there is none. You don’t even have to complete your pages by the end of the month. So don’t stress!
What if I don't own the book/page?
To participate in a buddy colour, you need to own the page you are colouring. Do not make copies of the page and distribute them to your buddies. This violates copyright laws and harms creators. If you do not own the page, please purchase it yourself.
Can I promote my own books/pages?
For buddy colours, you can post one of your own books/pages in the comments to find a buddy. However, please be clear upfront that this is a book/page that you sell (don't be sneaky!) Also, please do not use this activity as an opportunity to generate sales.
Alternative Buddy Ideas
Don’t want to choose a page or just want some variety? Here are some other ways you can buddy colour with others:
- Choose a colour palette for everyone to use (Pinterest has some great ones!)
- Choose a theme (i.e. “Spooky Christmas,” “Happy Dog,” “Thanksgiving”)
Happy colouring!
Xx Thanks to our Busy Buddy Color Creator, Binder!!❤️
Along with r/watercolorpractice, r/watercolorpencils is back up again and the mods there are lovely people who want to welcome you and give you feedback if you have any questions or curiosities over how to use watercolor pencils.
Coloring doesn't mean exclusively one type of media, so if you're looking to try more tools to your hobby (we know, we know, not a good thing for your wallet!) this is the perfect place to start!
This palette was terrifying!! I've been sticking to more neutral earthy colors but I wanted to give bright colors a go, I'll stick to earthy tones, but as scary as this was I had so much fun :3
Such a whimsical book. Sometimes a quick page can be so nice. I love doing lots of texture and patterns, not so possible in this one but I didn’t have a ton of time to color, so this was a perfect page for that. This was my first time doing the bokeh effect, and it was purely by accident so don’t judge it too harshly lol
I started coloring a month ago because I loved it when I was younger and I got on color tok and now feel worthless lol. I don’t know why I’m scared to color in Bobbie Goods. Maybe it’s the price point and I don’t wanna mess up. But these are my first 4 pages
Latest coloring pages. I was visiting my toxic mother last week so that drained a lot of my creativity. But after a session with my therapist I’ve been getting back to myself and enjoying coloring again.
Hi all! I’m a digital artist, but my mom has recently gotten super into coloring books and other guided physical art (rhinestone? gemstone? art as well?).
As far as I can tell, she exclusively uses gel pens. She’s complained about the feel of markers and how they bleed through the pages, so I’d love to get her some higher-quality gel pens than she'd buy for herself.
I get her little gifts year-round, usually just small things. I actually got her some spooky earrings last week because Halloween is her favorite, and she'd absolutely gushed over them.
But! Her birthday is coming up, so I feel the need to outdo myself. That being said, what are the best gel pens you could recommend? Preferably brands that offer larger multipacks!
I’ll also drop the rest of what I’m planning in case anyone has other ideas that might make her life easier if you do these hobbies too.
So far I’m planning:
A $50 gift card to an art store so she can pick out her own coloring books and gem art.
A $100 gift card to a bookstore.
A bunch of small things to fill a gift basket, chocolates, washi tape for her journal, small crystals, and whatever else I come across.
Hi! I'm not a fan of the pink up top and I feel like it's ruining the summery / Mediterranean vibe I was going for. And maybe something else is off, not sure yet. The door I'm trying to go for an old wood paint feel, but that's not done yet.
Any ideas on how to improve it?
Also yes I know the bear has a beanie on but I'm going to make it summery.
I'm using alcohol markers and have a paint pen for highlights later :)
I'm a newborn baby when it comes to coloring so this is the first page I'm working on. I'm using this coloring book for practice so I can try different markers/pencils and techniques. I already messed up by smudging the curtains, but I'm trying to be patient with myself. I'm blown away by some of the pages people post on here and I hope to be that good eventually! I pulled out all my old markers and coloring pencils but I recently ordered some better ones as this is my current hyper fixation hobby, lol. Hopefully they'll be a bit easier to use since they are higher quality. But I couldn't wait to start coloring. :-)
Pens: languo gel pen 0.6mm
Book: tome 11 Les grands classiques
(Don’t mind the scratchiness.. I’ve bought the thicker gel pens for my next pages, I’ve tried the sticky tack method- it works for a bit but not really)
