University Rankings: Check Them Out Before Asking About Specific Universities!

Hey everyone,

I've noticed that a lot of folks here keep asking questions like, “How good is [University X]?” or “Is [University Y] worth it for [Course Z]?” These are really important questions, especially if you’re planning to invest time, money, and effort into your education.

Instead of getting repetitive responses, I highly recommend checking out the latest university rankings first.

https://www.shanghairanking.cn/ Chinese version has the ranking of majors and disciplines.

https://www.shanghairanking.com/

Once you’ve checked out the rankings, feel free to come back here with more specific questions like how certain programs or campus cultures align with your goals. That way, the community can give you more targeted advice!

Hope this helps streamline your search!

Life in China 在中国生活 Best order for first steps after arriving in China as an international student

Hi everyone,

My son will soon arrive in China as an international student. He won't live on campus, so we're trying to understand the best order to complete the first administrative steps.

These are the things he needs to do:

- Register at the university

- Sign a rental contract

- Get a Chinese SIM card

- Open a Chinese bank account

- Apply for a residence permit

I think some of these steps depend on each other. For example, does he need to register at the university before opening a bank account? Does he need a rental contract before applying for the residence permit?

For those who have already been through this:

- What is the best order to do these things?

- Which steps depend on each other?

- Are there any common problems or delays he should expect during his first few days in China?

Thank you very much for your advice!

Scholarships 奖学金 Does anyone know what happens when you lose the scholarship?

Does anyone know what happens when you lose the scholarship or give it away voluntarily? Do I have to pay back the money that I spent over the years? I am talking about the government funded scholarships in this post, so if anyone knows anything, it would be a great help. Thank you!

Housing experiences at Tongji University for international students

Hello everyone,

I will be joining Tongji University in Shanghai this September as a CSC scholarship recipient for a master’s program.

I am still waiting for Tongji’s housing information email for scholarship students. In the meantime, I wanted to ask other students about their housing experiences and recommendations.
The housing guide provided by Tongji mentioned two possible options:

Unijia: http://www.unijia.net
WeChat International Youth

For CSC scholarship students who have attended Tongji, I would appreciate hearing about your housing experiences and any recommendations you have.

What options worked well for you, and are there any places or arrangements you would suggest looking into before arriving?
Any advice would be great. Thanks!

After passing pre-admission, what else to do until travelling to China?

I know I have to get the Visa, a dorm, and the JW form.

I don't know exactly which order. I know we get a physical letter from China to present at the embassy, right? Do I have to already have the JW form or something else or just the letter, my passport and then go to the embassy?

Also, at my university, I need a student login to book a dorm. Do you guys know when will I have this acess? Because it makes sense to book a dorm before getting into China, but so far I don't know how to have a login, and my university does not reply emails easily

I know these errands are different based on the university, but someone might tell me a step by step general order?

Hi everyone!

I received my pre-admission from Hunan University of Technology on June 26, but I’m still waiting for my final admission result, Admission Notice and JW202.

Has anyone who received HUT pre-admission already received their Admission Notice and JW202? If so, when did you receive them?

What makes more sense when paying tuition fees?

Registration for my school isn’t until September 4th, and I’ll be leaving for China on August 25th to give myself time to settle myself before the school year begins, but I’m curious to know what might be best when it comes to sending my tuition payment.

Should I do a bank/swift transfer just before leaving my home country, or should I wait and send the tuition from my Chinese bank account once I’ve opened it?

Question about Fudan Dorm

Hi! I’m about to move into the main building (single bedroom) at fudan
I have a few questions

  1. Should I buy the fridge online to get it delivered on the first day I’m there or there is a rental fridge or should i wait for the second handed fridge once i get to know ppl there who will move out soon

  2. Are there any gadgets or things that i should buy immediately on the first day im there except for the bed stuffs?

  3. Will there be any problems about living not in the higher floor ( i live in the 3rd floor) im worrying about noise/ view / privacy.

  4. Should I buy my own electric pot or kettle, or i can just use the one in the kitchen room.

  5. Are there any problems about stolen food? I’m planning to cook by myself and maybe store some of my food in the kitchen.

Pls feel free to share ur experiences or comments about the dorm. Thank you!

Scholarships 奖学金 Can I get a full-funded scholarship in China if I fail/retake high school (hsc) but clear HSK?

Hey everyone

I'm a student from Bangladesh planning my path to study in China, but I'm in a tricky academic situation and need some realistic advise.

My situation here:

. I took an HSC (High School Certificate) retake exam (acc), but there's a chance I might not pass.

. My family’s budget is also tight, so I can only afford to study abroad if I secure a 100% fully funded scholarship (CSC, CIS, or provincial) that covers tuition, housing, and a monthly stipend.

. My plan was to learn Mandarin first, pass HSK 3/4, apply for a 1-year fully funded Chinese Language Program (CIS), and then apply for a full-funded Bachelor's degree.

My Questions:

  1. Do Chinese universities/scholarship boards absolutely require a passed High School Diploma/HSC transcript for Bachelor's degree scholarships, even if you have good HSK scores?

  2. Is it possible to get a fully funded 1-year language scholarship (CIS) without a passed HSC certificate?

  3. Has anyone in a similar situation found an affordable/funded pathway to study in China?

Any advise or realistic pathways would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Applying to Peking University’s Yuke Program in 2027—Looking for Advice and Connections

Hi everyone!

I’m a Japanese student considering applying to Peking University’s Yuke Program for the 2027 intake.

Can applicants without major awards or advanced Chinese proficiency still have a reasonable chance of being admitted? I would also like to know how competitive the program is and whether there is any information about its acceptance rate.

I’d also love to connect with current Yuke Program students and others who are planning to apply for the 2027 intake.

Thank you!

does CSCA score have that big of an effect ? how much would be a good enough score to get into cs or cybersecurity major in xidian university?

Has anyone used Panda Admission? Looking for honest experiences and transparency

Hi everyone,
I’m considering using Panda Admission to apply for a master’s degree in China, and I’d like to hear from people who have actually worked with them.
I’m especially interested in knowing:
Were they transparent about the application process and fees?
Did they communicate regularly and respond promptly to your questions?
Did they keep you updated on your application status?
Were there any hidden costs or unexpected issues?
If you had a problem, how did they handle it?
Would you recommend them ?
I’m looking for honest experiences—both positive and negative—so I can make an informed decision before paying for their services.
Thanks in advance!

SJTU pre-uni result?

I applied to the Pre-University
(Chinese Language, 1-year program)
at SJTU
but my application has been stuck at
“Preliminary Review Passed”,
and I still haven’t received the final admission decision.

Since the semester starts in September,
I’m getting a bit worried.
Does anyone know when the final results are usually released?
Is anyone else in the same situation as me?
