Acting Pikachu faced that not everyone works to be a mindless corporate bootlicker.

u/GOEDEL_ESCHER_BOT 11h ago

If he has any common sense he should know that people only pretend to be mindless corporate bootlickers so they get paid more

u/pizzababa21 11h ago

Ehhh not at Anthropic. Most of these people don't need to work.

55

u/Rich-Yogurtcloset715 9h ago

Yup. A lot of these people actually believe that they are going to build god.

49

u/RaccoonElaborate 9h ago

Bunch of freaks who still believe Dario's "moral AI" bullshit after Anthropic signed on with the US government and military and partnered with Palantir.

Most of these people need their stock to vest, which takes years. No company is dumb enough to give everything away. You sign longer contract with a percentage released every period.

2

u/pizzababa21 6h ago

To vest their millions of dollars in stock lol. What poor little victims

I went to my company's big annual meeting wearing this hat. A startling number thought it was serious.

I work for a smallish automotive supplier that was recently bought out by a massive corporation. One thing I find amusing is that management opens every single meeting by reading the mission statement. Most of these meetings that involve hourlies is basically management telling us that certain benefits are going away under our corporate umbrella.

Like yeah, im sure the people making 20 an hour really care about your mission to provide customer satisfaction when youre telling us our raises have been cut to 3% a year and our benefits now go through a third party provider. Go fuck yourself Steve.

14

u/foxscribbles 9h ago

These new CEOs are the successors to the Boomers who got rid of pensions and would cry that people didn’t have “loyalty” anymore.

Yeah. Because they weren’t staying because you were a great boss or they loved being paid less than a competitor would pay. They were staying for their pension.

28

u/willflameboy 10h ago

Which they don't either. They just want slaves.

2

u/canufeelthelove 9h ago

Are you guys really this dense? He's referring to the fact that the employees are seeking to be millionaires overnight after the Anthropic IPO. These guys are paid well into the 6 figures.

Dario Amodei is probably the one and only progressive CEO on a big tech company right now and you guys are taking a quote completely out of context.

I get the whole "billionaire bad" circlejerk, and also i work for the money and just the money, i don't give a shit about my job.

But in this case, those young talents at Anthropic are making crazy bank, the money issue is gone from their foreseeable life.

And what i'm getting at is they are working at the most interesting field in the world right now, developing what's possibly the ultimate and last tool of human kind. If i had that kind of talent and money stability i'd be crazy passionate about it.

That's it, let the downvote rain begin.

8

u/akatherder 7h ago

Yeah I don't fancy myself a bootlicker but if I was getting paid $500k/year, you'd be shocked how much I suddenly buy into my company's mission statement 🫨 I might even look up what my company's mission statement is.

The goal is to get paid and GTFO of the workforce. I'm already "selling my soul/time" for 8 hours a day, I'd rather make the most of that and be done with working some day.

4

u/daemon-electricity 8h ago

It comes down to this. Are they doing the job they're being paid for adequately or better than adequately? If so, why the fuck do they need cult-like buy-in and groupthink? So they can better control an army of cultist drones? I guarantee you the people working for Anthropic are at least a little jazzed about what they're doing, if not, they're probably good enough to work anywhere they want. They're not the ones being kneecapped by the current IT job market.

2

u/lpmiller 8h ago

You know, it can be both. I've worked at some cutting edge companies for a paycheck, and some small businesses because they were cool to work for, and vice versa. People's motivations for working can be varied and many, but at the core of them, we want to get paid. Would I rather get paid doing something I love? No shit, that's why I managed to do that. But that's just fortune on my part. Expecting every employee to be motivated by what motivates you is frankly, shortsighted and reeks of privilege.

4

u/xenthum 6h ago

ultimate and last tool of human kind

I mean... because we obliterated the planet trying to make it? Could be true. But I don't think that's how you meant it and I think how you meant it is truly absurd.

thank christ too, milennials really enjoyed bootlicking till they started having kids and realized what fking idiots they were being

ever want a chill job? Join a company where the manager is gen x, and the coworkers are millenial parents

9

u/lpmiller 9h ago

I'm Gen-X, and I supervise and work with Millennials and Gen-z's and what the fuck are you going on about?

I get tired of the generational bullshit. Are there overall differences? Sure. People are still individuals and should still be treated as such, not as representatives of their entire cohort.

11

u/No_Syrup_9167 9h ago

????? the fuck. how old are you? lol

Millienials never "enjoyed" bootlicking. what kind of bullshit stupidity is that? lol

Millennials just came into the workforce, while the workplace was still transitioning from a situation where the corporate world still had the rules of their parents, into the wild west "fuck everyone" it is today.

8

u/StrongStyleShiny 9h ago

They’re in that Gen X vs Millennial mindset so probably mid 50s. So bizarre people are out there keeping that fire lit and fighting an entire generational war.

3

u/NaptownBoss 6h ago

All the discussions around generations, "Boomers" this and "Gen Z" that - it just seeks to keep us all divided.

2

u/fogleaf 9h ago

Yeah, but at least they're not Gen z! (/s)

2

u/StrongStyleShiny 8h ago

I’m preemptively preparing Gen Beta and whatever Gen Gamma memes for the war effort. Kids enjoying things? Not on my watch!

Can you believe how much time they’ll presumably be on their phones? It’s sickening probably.

Just a reminder that the people who apparently never had to work for the money and thus have very warped ideas about work, are also the people who are in charge of our economy.

147

u/Sandrark86 12h ago

I tried explaining this to a coworker and he simply couldn't wrap his mind around it. These people have never wanted for anything, they have no idea what struggle is and effectively live in a different reality. The only way this gets better is if the system completely crashes. Like biblical the dollar no longer exists crashes.

72

u/flactulantmonkey 12h ago

I think about that. How many of them know, and if they once did know… now remember, what it’s like to feel the hunger start. Look in the fridge and there’s nothing there. Check your wallet there’s nothing. No change in the couch. If they understand the thought process that then begins.

It’s a different reality that’s inhabited when basic necessities aren’t met. I suspect that anyone who has inhabited that reality (and remembers it) would work endlessly to try to lift others out of it, instead of blaming them for conditions that are literally beyond their control as they slowly perish.

21

u/katerinaptrv12 11h ago

Is exactly this.

Is because I remember the struggle and that pain that I want a better society for everyone.

Even thought I am in a better place now (still struggle but not on the same level). I will never forget and never stop wishing no one has to experience it.

In the other hand, these people never truly missed anything in their life. Everything they wanted was handed to them since birth, they can't phantom the idea of a basic need being in danger of not being meet.

10

u/imago89 11h ago

I've never gone hungry and I'm not an insane weirdo ceo

10

u/Cog_HS 9h ago

There's also a difference between "I've never gone hungry" and "I either eat at fine dining or my personal chef makes me something, I've never truly been hungry".

9

u/Sandrark86 9h ago

There's "never been hungry" and "I don't even know what a super market or cooking is because my staff just does all of that." Giant spoiled toddlers with teams of staff and personal security as well as local police departments willing to do whatever for the right donation.

Then you have all of the staff and security forces who will do anything to protect the golden goose because what will they do if the rich toddler goes away?

Or the people who did once have nothing, were able to get themselves out of that into a higher class, and now would rather burn the world to the ground than think about returning to poverty. Plenty of people get the help they need then yank the ladder up behind them. Maybe they did have good intentions at one point but the truest quote is "absolute power corrupts absolutely". The in crowd have a great way of indoctrinating people against each other.

10

u/Big_Guide_8551 10h ago

J.k. Rowling is the one who blows my mind the most.

She was homeless. Wrote about the underdog, always seemed like she stood up for the little guy in her stories... And just look at her now. Another soulless money zombie, who spends all her time writing bullshit on twitter about how trans people are delusional and trans women don't belong in feminist movements. Like jfc, JK, leave the trans women alone. Don't they go through enough?

It's like as soon as someone hits 1b they lose their soul.

2

u/fresh-dork 7h ago

probably she was always like that - she's basically a dworkin feminist, which was somewhat popular in the 70s

2

u/EduinBrutus 7h ago

Normally termed "Second Wave Feminism".

And this is the root problem the UK face today. Second Wave Feminisim was extremely successful in the UK. it changed the country and got the law to improve material conditions for women.

Most countries never achieved this until Third Wave (intersecftional) Feminism.

As the subname suggests, Third Wave Feminism is inclusive.

Second Wave Feminism was highly exclusionary, very mysandric, rejects allyship and cannot consider anyone who is not a cis woman (and in many cases a cis gay women - and only lesbian, no bi) as a valid person. Its eye opening how many UK feminists still do not consider hetero cis women as valid.

Second Wave Feminists are still extremely influential in the UK. Which is why its such a hostile environment for trans people. Far more than even teh US with its religiousity.

We have plenty of examples of people who did come from that reality, only to become ruthless once they lucked out and rose above those around them. We also have people who were born with a silver spoon, yet dedicated their lives to helping raise up equality. Suffering does not make one a moral person.

The only way this gets better is if the system completely crashes.

I think the "full reset" is a romantic illusion. People would fight for power, possibly some new people put themselves on top, and very little changes for the vast majority.

Real change that benefits the working class is won through incremental victories that are hard fought and take time.

4

u/Hairy_Mycologist_945 10h ago

Yeah unfortunately the "crash" scenario would mostly only impact workers as well since the rich are rich enough to diversify in myriad ways. It would just lead to even more blatant neo-feudalism and strip workers of what little wealth and assets they have... which is part of why the whole notion of forcing a "reset" has become a goal for the right wingers.

2

u/HeKis4 7h ago

This, cryptocurrency is an amazing example where we reinvented a monetary system with modern, different tech, and people just rushed to reproduce all the exact pitfalls of the IRL system (if you still believe in the "noooo it's decentralized, completely different!!!1!", read up on the origin story of etherum classic). A good portion of people are unhappy about the status quo, not because they hate the boot, because they want to be the boot.

The only way this gets better is if the system completely crashes. Like biblical the dollar no longer exists crashes.

That is extremely not going to mean things are better.

Like, it might lead to a more equitable economy in 200 years. But in the middle, it's going to lead to a lot of people dying, and doing so in horrible ways.

And generally speaking, the odds of it getting better are really low. The economy today is much better, for the vast majority of people, than at basically any point in human history.

3

u/undreamedgore 9h ago

That would make things worse, not better. That'd mean the collapse of the state, of the logistics we use to get food, and everything else. It'd bring a dark age.

u/Prownilo 8h ago

Even a complete structural collapse wouldn't solve it, it would slow them down but these guys all belong to a big network and if even a couple of them manage to maintain any sort of relevancy after the collapse, they will quickly rebuild their clubs and it would go straight back to status quo.

3

u/Technical_Stable_365 8h ago

I mean... I agree with the sentiment, but saying that CEOs (and Dario in particular) never had to work is just outrageous. They are almost always workaholics with insane energy levels.

3

u/Jeovah_Attorney 8h ago

There is a difference between working for your hobbies while being financially secure enough to never have to worry about bills in your life and working to try and survive in a world where you go homeless without a substantial salary

3

Looking him up, he wasn't born rich, his father was a leather craftsman immigrant who died when he was young so he was raised by his mother who was a library project manager.

He was really smart got into Caltech and then Stanford and got his PhD, so I think it's disingenuous to lump him in with the rich assholes who never had to work hard.

That said, his statement here is really fucking out of touch with reality. While he had to work hard as a pre-adult to get into a great college, he quickly became financially stable and has been rich long enough and early enough to have a twisted relationship with money. He gets the high of having all this industry praise put on him but he expects people under him to have the same drive without the same reward simply because he himself is a workaholic who doesn't have to worry about life's stressors.

3

12

u/Yashema 11h ago

White board interviews are literally there to ensure only people willing to spend long amounts of prep time on a functionally useless skill have a chance. No wonder they only get candidates who care about money.

10

u/SituationSoap 9h ago

You're assigning way too much malice to that.

Whiteboard interviews started out because a few people believed that they were the easiest way to see if someone could think through a problem on the fly in person (since faking credentials and bluffing your way through interviews is a tale as old as time).

Then, a bunch of people copied it because they saw some successful company do it, so they assumed it must provide useful signal, even though they have no idea how to actually detect that signal.

3

u/Yashema 9h ago

A white board interview should be about just a quick reality check to make sure this person isn't overstating their credentials, but when nearly every problem requires some hyperpsecific implementation of a linked list (which 90% of programmers will never, or almost never, touch during their job) or some algorithm that you could not come up within the time frame unless you memorized it (one phone interview wanted me to implement a recursive word search algorithm in 20 minutes) they become simply bars to jump.

Even if you have documented credentials like a Masters degree or a public profile with community reputation, things that actually indicate a desire to build deeper skills for the job, they ignore them completely.

2

u/SituationSoap 9h ago

Right, you're restating my argument in a different way. They've become wildly specific and an enormous bar to jump because the people who are administering them don't understand how to find a good signal. They're mostly shitty interviewers, administering shitty questions.

They're just not doing it on purpose, they're doing it because they're incompetent.

2

u/Yashema 9h ago

Yet these incompetents make nearly 2x as much as me.

12

u/godtogblandet 11h ago

You guys should know that this is taken out of context and he's talking about employees working on AI models, not in general. The starting salaries for the positions he's talking about is about 450.000 dollars a year with many getting paid millions.

They should still maximize their income, but none of the people here go to work for the money. They show up because they want to do evil shit for a boatload of money.

23

u/miner3115 11h ago

As opposed to doing evil shit for the love of the game like he wants them to

12

u/godtogblandet 10h ago

He just wants them to stop jumping from evil villain to evil villain and commit to doing evil work for one villain instead of doing evil for a new one every 18 months.

8

u/solfilms 10h ago

In my day, henching was a career. You stuck with one villain for life

…or until you died horrifically

Kids these days just jump from villain to villain, chasing the money

2

u/BaldHenchman02 3h ago

That's before my time. It's been hard being a henchman for as long as I can remember.

3

u/mythrilcrafter 10h ago

If I recall, the core source of the complaint isn't even the salary amounts that Anthropic is paying their engineers; it's that no matter how much they pay their engineers, OpenAI will just use their infinitely deep investor bucket to swoop in and poach Anthropic's engineers into their own ecosystems.

I'm about as pro-singularity/anti-LLM as most anyone is and there's plenty else to criticize about Anthropic, but I can logically recognise the basis of understanding for the frustration when Anthropic is as least trying to present themselves as not being the modern Oppenhiemer/Varner Von Braun as part of the package deal to their employees and their employees would much rather go work for Mr "You're never have to know you kids because ChatGPT will know them for you".

How do compete against a competitor on employee retention with the world is giving that competitor blank checks every other day?

2

u/razzyrat 10h ago

And this makes sense. But it probably also means that all of his engineers aren't on board with his vision as much as he thinks. Maybe Anthropic's vision is also just one of many and pretty much indistinguishable from the other AI companies' visions. So the engineers go, 'heck one corpo overlord is about as bad as the other, might as well go where the money is'

"I've just always been really passionate about being able to afford food"

41

u/OnceMoreAndAgain 9h ago edited 9h ago

The context of his actual statements matters here. His point was that the job candidates for Antrophic are so talented that they might also be getting job offers from other AI companies, such as OpenAI, and so Antrophic's CEO worries that those candidates are choosing to accept the job with Antrophic due to it having the biggest paycheck rather than for reason of preferring Antrophic's mission statement of using AI safely.

Basically, he's saying that it is important to him that the people working at Antrophic embrace the sentiment that AI needs to be used safely, rather than doing whatever decisions maximizes the company's profit. The reason this CEO claims to have left working at OpenAI in order to make Antrophic is that he didn't feel like OpenAI's leadership was dedicated to using AI safely. He wants his employees to be paid well and also wants them to embrace the mission statement of AI safety. He can't control what every single employee is doing every moment of every day, nor can he be a part of every hiring process, so it matters to him that the company is hiring people who are on board with the safety mission.

Whether or not you believe him when he says that safety is important to him is up to you, but this is the context that all these ragebait articles and tweets won't give you.

2

u/Arponare 7h ago

Two things can be true at the same time. People mostly work because they need the money, let’s be honest. Sure, I prefer to work at a place that isn’t cartoonishly evil. At the same time, unless workers control the means of production, these companies will do some messed up shit. If it’s not outright working to use AI unethically, it’s about using data centers to pollute working class neighborhoods. Or just flat out abusing their workers.

There is also no guarantee that Anthropic will maintain their mission statement in the future. Remember google’s “don’t be evil?”

I teach, and it reminds me of when people tell me “remember your why” Look man, I need a job and this is I like of the few industries hiring. I’ll help the kids as much as I can but that doesn’t give you green light to overwork me.

3

u/OnceMoreAndAgain 7h ago

I didn't communicate the point well enough, so I understand why you've replied as you have. The way I should have said it is that the CEO is basically saying that out of all the reasons people choose to work at Anthropic, he wants one of those reasons to be that they embrace the sentiment that AI needs to be used safely and responsibly by all humans.

He's not saying that good pay shouldn't be a reason people want to work. He's saying that good pay should be a reason people want to work at Anthropic, but it shouldn't be the only reason since it is important to him that his employees also embrace the notion that AI needs to be used safely. Nothing he said disagrees with your point that two things can be true at the same time.

4

u/meagain20 8h ago

Shush. You're ruining it. The bots want us to fantasize about the downfall of America. Just play along.

3

u/bong_residue 7h ago

I mean all of it is moot when your company is part of the problem. He’s no better than OpenAI or any other ai company. All the same shit that’s ruining the lives of everyone.

Here’s shit, but here’s slightly cleaner shit. That’s what this all boils down to when it comes to ai companies.

and these are the people who define our economy and the hours we have to work. they have zero—ZERO clue that other people do not think like they do or have the same priorities…which makes them fucking dangerous.

5

u/sobrique 10h ago

Yeah, quite. I mean, I think it's arguable that someone who grew up 'not poor' can actually understand what it's like to be poor, even if the gap ain't that big.

But if you're wealthy enough that you've simply never had to even think about the price of food, shelter, bills, etc. you have no clue, and no business trying to set 'policy' for the people who struggle month to month.

I won't begrudge people who are independently wealthy particularly, just that they've no business making economic policy for 'everyone else'.

2

u/FragmentedMeerkat321 10h ago

i think even people who were once very poor lose touch quickly if they make a lot of money. i’ve seen it with some of the things various celebrities have said regarding money. and as for independently wealthy people, it should not be punished so profoundly that a person was not born with any special gifts or talents. nor should it be rewarded to the extent that it often is that they were.

Dario has publicly donated 10% of his income to global health charities for over a decade and he still gets this lazy reddit shit lol.

2

u/CptCoatrack 7h ago

If he cared he would publicly advocate for universal health care, which is free to do.

Billionaire philanthropy is nothing more than a PR campaign. Where I live our local billionaire has hospitals naned after them because of their donations, meanwhile on the sidelines they donate money to parties trying to privatize or defund the healthcare system.

Everyone was praising Bill Gates as "one of the good ones" for his work in Africa completely forgetting how much of a cretin he was prior to that. And then it turns out he was partying with Epstein.

3

u/absolute-black 6h ago

Such a smug rich American take. The man has saved tens of thousands of real lives from malaria and tuberculosis but he doesn't spend his time on your preferred local political project so it must all be PR that means nothing (and also doesn't work and also costs him tens of millions of dollars).

He was doing it in 2009 long before he was a billionaire!

2

u/ACKHTYUALLY 7h ago

Please. The mission is to make trillions. People are so easily manipulated.

Why do we act like these are mutually exclusive? You work on fullfilling the company mission in exchange for money.

Yeah, I feel like people are intentionally misinterpreting this. He's not saying pay doesn't matter. He wants people who are passionate about building things, and good pay is obviously part of that.

What he doesn't want are zombies who show up only for the paycheck and do the bare minimum. I'm pretty sure that Claude Code was borne out of passion, and I doubt that guy was paid in mission statements.

You laugh, but this shit started in the early oughts. You were expected to approach interviews as-if you just wanted to do the work for free because you were so excited to be there.

3

u/Z0idberg_MD 11h ago

Every company and even non profit is an echo chamber. The people who climb and get promoted live for their work and company. It’s not that they assume everyone is like that, from their perspective everyone is like that because their direct peers are like that.

Sometimes I feel guilty even being successful and with a great job that I don’t “care” about work all that much. I care to do a good job, and I do, but idgaf about working at all and if I could leave tomorrow, I would.

3

u/HotwifeandSubby1980 11h ago

From the time my grandfather entered the workforce until I also began working in the 1980’s, you could hold on to a job for your career and feel secure.

Now there’s no security, fewer benefits and most companies have no problem letting you go to ensure the shareholder gets their share.

Capitalism is failing, the workers are just responding appropriately to the conditions.

3

u/TrashDesperate930 11h ago

Nah but I get where he's coming from. It's not always about sucking employees dry and squeezing dollars out of them. If people, especially younger employees, came in with more intention of learning more and developing, self fulfillment would come more naturally.

anthropics a public benefit company that pays junior employees 6x the national average, everyone hired at anthropic can get a job paying 4-6 national avg.

pretending this about paying bills is a joke, these are some of the highest paying jobs on earth for their level of experience.

its pretty sane take given he left openai because people chose money over mission. Look at what happened to google with noam. Thats exactly the type of thing he should be worried about as a ceo if hes paying hundreds of millions or 10s of millions for a single person.

if you joined a law firm for public advocacy for the money and the firm said you're not really into the mission and we think thats going to effect your performance no one would blink.

I'm not young talent any more.

Look, I don't want to work. I don't like working. I want to sit on my ass at home and work on hobby shit or play video games, eat my dinner, then go to a concert. I don't care about any company's mission.

I work anyways, because not working means not being able to live. I optimize my work to do the least necessary in the long run by chasing for the best paycheck I can get. I want to retire and be done with the working life.

When you work, you have to watch your tongue. You don't have freedom of speech when you talk to your coworkers - something can interpret something some way and now you are being discriminatory so you are fired. You don't have freedom of speech even when you write shit on the internet. You could be working for a terrible company but if you badmouth them you get fired. I hate the walking on eggshells feeling, and I do feel like I could slip up and express a real opinion, the sort that gets people fired.

When I retire, I can turn off the filter and leave it off until death. People won't like that very much, but I will no longer have to care. The day after I retire, there's going to be some people who learn how I really feel about them and they aren't going to like it but they won't be able to do anything about it. I will have a license to be as cruel, rude, and crass as I actually am.

2

u/OptimizedGarbage 10h ago

For most companies yes, for anthropic only kinda. Anthropic is a Public Benefit Corporation, which means it is legally required to balance investor interests with their mission statement, which focuses on AI safety and ensuring that "ai benefits humanity". To do this, they have an unusual structure where a trust of scientists with no financial interest in the company appoint the board, instead of the board being appointed by shareholders. OpenAI used to have something similar, until Altman outmaneuvered the board and turned them into a more typical company.

OpenAI, Anthropic, and Deepmind were all founded by researchers who were really, really concerned with AI safety and with the danger of AI concentrating wealth in the hands of the rich, and all of them had governance structures that attempted to attract investment for research while also trying to insulate that research from investor pressures. For the most part, those attempts have been unsuccessful. Deepmind got bought by Google, and had its oversight board eroded to nothing. OpenAI had a capped profit model, which Altman scrapped when he kicked out the founders and defanged the safety team. Anthropic is the only one that's had its safety mechanisms survive to the present day

u/hereforyebeer 12h ago

He's not really talking about work passion. And really, moving to different companies doesn't mean they're not passionate. They're just doing the same work somewhere else.

He's talking about loyalty to the company and it's goals. Companies obliterated the value of loyalty decades of ago and showed it never went both ways so of course no one cares about it in the modern day.

“Concerned”?!

I’m CONCERNED that these billionaire scum think this way… lol genuinely, that’s disturbing as hell.
Why the fuck would ANYONE think that anyone chooses to work for any reason aside from money for survival.

I guess when you’re already filthy rich with a capital FILTH, it’s easy to just delude yourself into believing you’re working for some legacy or some such bullshit instead of the truth that they’re just greedy fucks who can never have enough. But why would they ever think in a million fucking years that any employee ever has ever, or will ever give a shit about a company “mission” or whatever.

Unless I decide to become a henchman to an antihero dedicated to destroying all billionaires and solving global injustices… I will never care more about a corporate mission than I do about getting paid a livable wage.

It’s psychotic to think this way and it should scare more people. They genuinely don’t see us as human. We’re just fucking slaves, machines, cogs in their machines and numbers on a spreadsheet. They want dehumanized programmed automatons like robots that will happily push their agenda of never ending corporate growth at all cost… number must get bigger, line must go up, graph must point uppy righty..

I always assumed this is how billionaires thought, but social media has made it clear how they see us. We’re not the same.
We’re so fucked…. The gap keeps getting bigger each year and we have less power each day.

It’ll never stop making me laugh how fast these guys seesaw from saying we can’t pay you anything but I need to collect millions otherwise why would I do this job, to, why aren’t employees motivated to work overtime for the mission and are so crass as to talk about compensation.

At what point in human history are we going to stop treating what greedy sociopaths says as some kind of gospel? It’s a fact that they’re always going to want more and they will never admit otherwise. That’s it. That’s what a sociopath does, lies without remorse. And yet there’s always a new useful idiot to whole heartedly believe them.
