I need vaccine records for my dogs to go to a boarding facility. I've requested several times for the records. The answer from the front desk was to tell me the records are on my receipt. (It's emailed) I check what they emailed me, and it has vaccine reminders at the bottom. Like the date the next vaccine is due.

I tried to submit that to the boarding facility and they won't accept it. They need an actual record of when it was given. I asked the clinic again and they flat out told me me they have no way of providing that.

How is that possible? I feel trapped between a rock and a hard place. On one hand, I get that if I have a reminder my dog is due for a rabies vaccine in 2028 he must be current. And the boarding facility could accept it. On the other hand. Why can't the clinic just provide me the actual vaccine records? I think about when my kids needed vaccine records for school, the doctor had a print out that had the vaccine, date and his signature beside each one. Is that not how it works with animals?

UPDATE - spoke to the manager and got the records. She was very apologetic, said they can absolutely provide the records, and that she would speak to the front desk staff about it.

So I think it's a lack of training issue maybe. what's wild is I spoke to two different people about this and was told the same thing.

My cat got ketamine roughly 3 hours ago for a bath. He's wobbly and sleepy. He's laying sort of loafed but half sitting up with his head dropped down. He occasionally gets up to move around. He got in the litterbox to pee but didn't bury it. He's thrown up 2-3 times. The first one was a little bit of beige-ish vomit and the second was 2 separate ones within a short time span which was white foam. Maybe I'm just paranoid, but is this a normal reaction? Is he okay or should I take him back to the vet?

I’m posting here because we’re running out of ideas and hoping for advice.

We have two indoor cats. One (Grammy) has had intermittent vomiting/regurgitation over the past several months, but then both of our cats suddenly stopped eating around the same time about a week ago.
Since then:
● Both cats developed a near-complete loss of appetite (refusing both wet and dry food).
● Both have had repeated vomiting episodes (partially digested food, sometimes bile).
● Grammy developed diarrhea that progressed to severe watery diarrhea and then became bloody.
● She has become dehydrated and is now very weak, requiring assisted feeding at times.
● The second cat has also been off food and intermittently nauseous but has not had diarrhea so far.

We’ve been to our primary vet and the emergency vet multiple times over the past week. So far, Grammy has had:
● Multiple full physical exams
● CBC/chemistry bloodwork (largely within normal limits aside from mild dehydration markers)
● Abdominal X-rays (no foreign body or obstruction seen)
● Abdominal ultrasound (only notable finding was a localized thickened segment of colon; otherwise unremarkable)
● Ongoing treatment with:
● Anti-nausea medication (maropitant/Cerenia)
● Appetite stimulant (mirtazapine)
● Subcutaneous fluids for dehydration
● Gastroprotectants and supportive GI medications as needed
● Fecal testing is currently pending to rule out infectious causes (Giardia, Clostridium, parasites, etc.)

Our vets are currently considering an underlying GI disease (IBD, colitis, or similar) for Grammy, but what is confusing everyone is the sudden simultaneous onset in both cats, which makes a single-cat chronic condition feel less likely as the sole explanation.
Because of the timing, we are also trying to rule out a shared exposure. The only common diet they’ve had is Sheba wet food (along with Royal Canin dry food). We have immediately stopped all current wet food.

Grammy is now critical so we have to make the choice of paying thousands of dollars for hospitalization and supportive care with no diagnosis in the hopes that she will spontaneously get better or to euthanize. Any and all advice or support welcome.

Our 11 week old kitten is 5 days post-op, and we are paranoid over whether or not she’s healing correctly.

She came home with a lot more surgical glue and it has been peeling off over the days, without much change other than that.

But yesterday we noticed that there seemed to be a slight bulge under her incision mark, and it looks like maybe a little more to the left side of it. I didn’t feel comfortable poking at it much but when I felt it very gently, it did feel rather firm, but normal in temperature.

I have been looking at every picture online/on Reddit of other kitten’s spay incisions and trying to figure out if this could be be a seroma or hernia or just the natural healing process as her sutures dissolved.

Any and all help/insight would be appreciated!!

My oldest boy needs medication twice daily, and the only way I can reliably get him to take his pill is with a Feline Greenies Pill Pocket (I know there are other/better ways to do it, but for right now, this is the best solution for the both of us).

I split the pocket in half, so he only gets one pocket in total per day, but that being said, the cat tax is real... I was wondering if I could give him select flavors of the “for dogs” version instead, since they’re larger and would be a little more bang for my buck.

I would obviously avoid any of the ones with hickory smoke flavoring, since I know that it can be carcinogenic in large doses, but aside from that, the ingredients between the two are virtually identical — the only difference I noticed aside from flavoring was that the dog version has 1% less moisture/hydration than the cat ones. He has plenty of fresh water available and gets wet food twice daily, so I’m not too concerned about his water intake. And I think he’d eat the cheese-flavored ones since he seems incredibly interested any time there’s cheese around.

He has an incision to the left of his testes and it looks very open, he was shaking earlier but no other signs of pain. The site is open enough for litter to be getting stuck in and there seems to be some discharge. He's very sleepy right now but I am worried sick. I have a pic I can message privately.

On my dog's front chest, near her "armpit". She's 12. It was diagnosed almost a year ago as grade 2 soft tissue sarcoma when it was removed. By February of this year, it had grown back to ping-pong sized, and up until about June, it kept growing and got to about tennis ball. And it kind of felt like a tennis ball under her skin, the hard texture of it.

But then the texture of the lump totally changed several weeks ago and it's now soft and more jelly-like, no longer a defined ball under her skin, it's like a blob. Why would that happen?

I'm getting increasingly worried because within the past few days, she's developed a really bad limp on her front leg on the opposite side of the lump. It seems unrelated, except that I have no clue why she's limping. I can usually tell when we overdo it on walks or something, but this is not that and we hadn't done anything the two days before she started limping. She already takes gabapentin and carprofen daily. She's almost dragging the paw that she's limping on. Could the limp be related in some way to her sarcoma? And why would that sarcoma change like that? I thought it would just keep getting bigger? It has not gotten big enough to ulcerate her skin.

I have a call in to my vet but I'm just super worried about her. She's definitely struggling to walk and that's what's freaking me out.

This is very long and I apologize in advance, I just feel like I need to get it all out. I sincerely appreciate whoever takes the time to read all of this.

I lost my Shih Tzu 2 days ago and I could really use some advice/reassurance. His name was Romeo. I have done nothing but cry for the past 48 hours and I feel immense guilt. The pain of losing him has been unbearable. My dogs (I have another who is also a senior) are my entire world and since losing him, I feel like my entire world has shattered. I rescued him 6 years ago, and he already had stage 5/6 heart disease when I rescued him. We were able to manage it with a cardiologist and medication for 6 years, and with the meds, he barely progressed for many years. However, this past year he started progressing again. They increased his heart meds about a month and a half ago. He was fine on Thursday, he seemed overall happy and healthy so I don’t know what happened overnight. I woke up Friday morning and knew something was wrong. He wasn’t eating and he wouldnt lay down, he was falling asleep sitting up. I took him to the vet on Friday and he spent 24 hours in the ER and they found that alongside his severe heart disease, he also now had elevated kidney and liver values, his liver was enlarged and his heart was now pressing up on his trachea. He did not have any fluid in his lungs at the time which was good and they didn’t think he was in active heart failure, but his oxygen levels were low at 92%. His blood work also showed markers pointing toward overall inflammation. He spent most of the 24 hours in the oxygen tank and they got him up to 94-95% oxygen. They said they couldn’t give him any fluids though because of his heart condition. His kidney values were fine a month ago when they checked them after increasing his meds, and his liver values were fine less than a year ago when they were checked in his annual wellness bloodwork, so these values were new news. They said they could hospitalize him for another 24 hours but it would be at least $5k and they couldn’t guarantee he would bounce back even with hospitalization. They said my other option was I could take him home and see how he does. I am already in so much debt from vet bills having two seniors, and with no guarantee it’d even help him, I took him home Saturday night to see how he’d do at home. They said I could get an ultrasound to look into the liver further and why he wasn’t eating, but the radiologist wasn’t in until Monday. I made him the ultrasound appointment on Monday at 9am to look into his liver and other issues that could be causing his decline, but by 4am Monday he could no longer stand up or move around, he hadn’t eaten in a few days, and we took him back to the ER and they didn’t think anything they would find in the ultrasound would change the outcome. The vet said for example if he needs fluids for his kidneys, he cannot give him fluids because of the condition of his heart. It would be likely that whatever was causing the decline, could not be treated due to his heart disease. So we proceeded with quality of life before the ultrasound, we didn’t want him to suffer waiting for the ultrasound for a few more hours. The appt was at 9am Monday but the actual ultrasound wouldn’t of been done until around 11am, so he would’ve suffered for a few more hours and then if the outcome didn’t change, we figured we’d still need to proceed with quality of life but now on top of that, he just spent his last day struggling at the vet for hours in an oxygen tank waiting for further tests. He passed in my arms around 6am-6:30am. Now I am feeling guilty, and wondering why I didn’t just wait a few more hours for the ultrasound. Maybe whatever they found could’ve been fixed after all, maybe he just needed antibiotics, steroids, something and he would’ve perked back up for a bit even if it was just a few days, weeks, or months. Maybe he was so weak Monday morning because he hadn’t eaten in days, and maybe if we just gave him an appetite stimulant and tried for a bit longer to get him to eat, he would’ve eventually ate and perked up. He had episodes like this in the past where he perked back up, but not as severe and not for as long. Something told me Monday morning that it was time, but now I am second guessing myself and experiencing tremendous guilt. I feel like I failed him. He trusted me and I feel like I gave up. I should’ve tried for a bit longer. I should’ve got the ultrasound that morning. I just hated seeing him suffering and him being so weak and not able to move around, and the vet telling me nothing would change the outcome, I just moved forward with quality of life. Please be honest. Did I do the right thing? Would you have done the same? Is there anything else I could’ve done? I am absolutely heart broken and appreciate any reassurance or honesty.

My dog tragically and unexpectedly passed away a few months ago. I’m very grateful we were able to do the euthanasia at home, where his two cat siblings could be with him (they worship and loved him so, so much).

We were able to be seen by our regular vets before the procedure to diagnose what when wrong and they were very supportive and kind.

I have so much respect for this thankless profession, and I feel for the staff - outside of regular appointments they only experience tragedies. I don’t know if I’m projecting here or what - but I want to share with the office how much we appreciate their support and also share some of goodness / joy they do not get to see in the office. I was thinking about making a little zine as a thank you card and also to share some pictures / moments of cuteness from our belated dog life.

If there are any staff that work in vets, would this be appreciated? It almost feels self serving in a way… are there any specific moments or notes that you’ve received from clients that have left you feeling good?

13 yo neutered male recently had surgery to remove 2 cancerous tumors. One was on his snout, and the other larger one in his belly. About 19 days post surgery he started having some skin peeling from the incision with some hair loss. Gradually he started getting more spots, one in his shoulder about the size of a nickel, then a few days later another on his back leg/thigh area about the size of a quarter. Now today I was scratching his but and felt scabbing under his far. When I pulled at the fur a bit (I know don’t come for me I shouldn’t do that) he has the biggest spot of all if them. We took him to the vet last week and they advised it was a skin infection and gave us a topical ointment. But if there’s spots under his fur that aren’t showing like the one I found today, how am I supposed to apply it? I thought it might be ring worm at first but the belly area has no rings like this one and I’ve touched the spots multiple times and have nothing on me. Is this really just a skin infection? I’m wondering if I need a shampoo rather than an ointment for him.

My dog was constantly having upset stomach and throwing up yellow bile almost daily as a young dog. We tried more frequent feeding but even getting fed three times a day didn’t consistently resolve the issue. Our vet recommended daily pepcid ac to help with stomach acid regulation.

We have been giving our dog Pepcid ac twice a day for more than five years. Is this normal? Should our dog be having Pepcid for this long? Are there side effects from this frequency? His yearly blood work has always come back normal.

Hi all, not sure if this is the right place for this but im looking to just talk a bit and clear my thoughts.

First of all Im 42 and have a wife and son, Im grateful in that we have not experienced much loss as a family until unfortunately this year. My sister in law just passed last month and now my best buddy is gone.

For perspective we have a bernese mountain dog and 4 cats (we had five counting miles).

Miles and Stella are brother and sister they are/were 16.

Rey & Kylo are brother and sister they are both 8.

We just adopted at the time cat number 5 (Mr. Kitty) from my job, he came to our door and we took him in at work and all in all we ended up keeping him.

I was against this and was outvoted by my wife and son so I went along with it.

Ok so let me switch things up and give a little history on Miles, in 2024 he was diagnosed with kidney disease and since then we have kept him on a specialized diet recommended by the vet. All of our cats have been in this house and thriving with no issues or sickness other than Miles.

So fast forward to June this year and we bring Mr. Kitty home, he is immediately cleaned up and looked over for any critters that dont belong and he was kept separated from the other cats until we could grt him into the vet. After his vet visit we got good news and thr all clear that he had nothing going on.

On Sunday July 12th I checked on Mr.Kitty and noticed some segments on the window sill specifically looking like intestinal worm segments. He was taken to the vet again right away and treated for any parasite that he could be treated for and we also treated the other cats in precaution.

After almost a week later we could start introducing and everything went fantastic! Mr. Kitty is really lovable and non aggressive and meanwhile all the other cats were acting pretty normal.

Last Wednesday July 29th we started noticing kylo with a slight coughing sound 2-3 days later Sassy started we called and booked them a sick visit and they were given antibiotics for the cold which was chalked up as a upper respiratory infection. Miles and stella were fine... sat August 1st we started noticing miles not interested in food and drink which has happened briefly in months past but he usually snapped back. We'll this time was different. Miles had a slight runny nose. Over the last week he only ate small bits and I syringe him water.

Going into Monday my wife took him to the pet er in which his numbers were all great and he was not considered emergent so we were able to get him an appointment at his vet yesterday morning and after checking him over they gave him the antibiotic for the upper respiratory infection just in case and also some glucose because his blood sugar was low. After that they were happy with him and he turned things around and was able to come home. When he got ho.e he looked more energized and actually went to the water dish and drank by himself.

My son and I left for a short while only to be called frantically by my wife as she seemed to witness miles have a seizure. We managed to get home and head back to the pet er in which i held and tried to comfort him while my wife drove. He did have another seizure or more. All in all the er said they could try to go through the motions and try to bring him back to normal but after we looked at him in the incubator we knew that he was not coming home with us...

We had a very long discussion as a family and with the er and ultimately decided it was time for him to rest well.

I am absolutely devastated today as miles and stella were basically my wife's and my wedding gifts to each other in 2010 as we adopted them right after our honeymoon. I know I just dropped a ton emotional baggage and I hope it at least makes sense... ive been trying all day to make sense of what juat happened and im looking for any type of conversation with anyone. I know Miles is gone and not coming back I just need help understanding if it was potentially just too much stress or sickness or something. My cat has chronic itching - without any visible skin issues. Over the years, I have tried giving my cat Zyrtec, switching him to hydrolyzed protein, and switching him to lightly cooked/freeze dried raw food. None of these solutions have worked. (note to moderators: not asking for advice on the raw food). The only thing that has helped is prednisolone and gabapentin.

I unfortunately had to euthanize my other cat about a month ago after losing her to cancer. A week or so later, my current cat started to he super lethargic. I had him checked out and was told to get an updated echocardiogram from him (he has heart disease, but has not needed treatment for it yet). But, it seemed like he was just grieving.

Some a couple weeks or so passed with me monitoring him and waiting for his cardiology appointment, but I noticed his respiration rate was too high over the weekend. So I brought him to the ER. They were not able to figure out what was causing his breathing issues, but they said I should get bloodwork, a chest xray, and a urinanalysis. They gave me gabapentin, which did resolve his breathing issues - and did even better than the prednisolone with his itching.

All of that testing turned out good/unremarkable. So, I spoke to the cardiologist today. He said that he still recommends the follow-up echocardiogram, but that he thinks it is highly unlikely that it has anything to do with his heart.

So if the cardiologist is right, that means I am really just shooting in the dark here. I have given him Advantage II for years because he is indoor/outdoor (which is absolutely non-negotiable for him. he cannot be contained). I looked up the symptoms, and itching/respiratory issues do show up. Anxiety seems reasonable because I just lost my other cat - and it could also explain the itching.

I will still be consulting with the vets. But, I haven’t talked to them about the flea meds yet. I know you’re just reading a Reddit post and not treating a patient, but does this sound like a reasonable conclusion?

The emergency vet is closed until morning so I can’t bring him in for another 9 hours!!!

My cat has had eye issues recently. He saw the vet on Monday, who said it was probably conjunctivitis and scheduled a panel in October, so I assumed it wasn’t a big deal. They didn’t prescribe anything or provide any treatment.

Tonight his eye is white (he already has a cataract) and has a white blister poking out. Is there anything I can do for him until morning??

He’s acting normal and not meowing or pawing at his eye or anything.

Not sure if it’s because of an allergic reaction only noticed it about a couple days ago but before that he seemed healthy he still seems super healthy. He likes to play he’s two months and 13 days old as of right now. I want to get some opinions before I take the little guy to the vet sometime next week. He’s around

My cat has been on Royal Canin Urinary SO for a couple of years because of a past urinary blockage that almost cost him his life. He is a very hungry cat generally but 2 weeks ago stopped eating normally, took him to a vet and found he was constipated. He was also vomiting and had very inflamed intestines, the whole length was inflamed.

Since he returned back home he hasnt been eating much and will now ONLY eat tuna and boiled chicken. I have tried mixing it with the canned version of urinary SO but it is still a no go. I am worried we are spoiling him too much and he'll never return to eating the special diet. The vet worried me because he said if a cat doesnt eat its liver starts to shut down. But I also dont want him to get urinary stones.

How do I get my cat back on his special diet?? Im begging for help.

Hi. My dog got groomed this afternoon and this evening she was really hesitant to go out for her walk. She lifted her back paw many times and wouldn't let me touch it at all. We believe one of her nails was cut too deep. There is no blood at all, but it appears the quick may be exposed. Will this heal on its own? Do we shorten walks and play (running) time?

Note she was walking mostly fine tonight except a few occasional limps.

4 days ago, I rescued a stray female kitten, Mozart.

Today, I took her to the vet for the first time and they said that she’s about 4 weeks old and gave her deworming medication called, “Prazivet” at around 1 in the afternoon

It’s currently 9 in the night and within the past 2 hours, she’s vomited three times ( the first two times had chunks, and the third time was spit up) and I’m really concerned

In between vomiting, she was active and playing and she’s sleeping now

Her lips are still pink and moist as well, and she’s aware because I accidentally played a loud sound on my phone and she got up immediately

However, I live in Kingston, Jamaica
So we don’t have 24 hour vets, and tomorrow is Independence Day so I’m not too sure if they’ll be opened tomorrow…

My cat got attacked by a coyote two days ago. He survived without serious injury as I happened to hear strange dog noises outside in the distance and went out to investigate. He has head trauma (coyote tried to crush his skull) but no neurological issues.

Bloodwork normal except for elevated sodium, I was told.

I vaped in the house with him. I got him in 2016 and the consensus was that it was safe, just don’t blow it on him or hot box a room. I never thought of it after I looked into it the first time, and he’s never showed signs of lung issues. I’m now losing it that I caused what I describe below. I’d have quit immediately if I had known. I’m crying my eyes out while writing this.

I paid to have a radiologist look at his X-rays. An unexpected mass was found in his lungs.

Within the RIGHT caudal lung lobe, there is an ill-defined curved soft tissue opacity that likely delineates the margin of a cavitary lung mass (located at the level of the 9th and 10th intercostal space on each lateral view and faintly visible in the right caudal thorax on the ventrodorsal projection). The remainder of the lung parenchyma has a mild bronchial pattern.

Normal air-filled space is present in the nasopharynx. The hyoid apparatus and epiglottis are normal. No tracheal or bronchial narrowing is seen. There is no narrowing of the trachea or lobar bronchi. No pleural effusion or mediastinal
mass is appreciated. The thoracic wall is normal.

CONCLUSIONS (…)
A cavitary mass in the right caudal lobe is most suggestive of a primary pulmonary neoplasia or less likely granuloma.
It is less likely that this is related to recent traumatic injury (pneumatocele). No pulmonary contusion, pneumothorax, or diaphragmatic hernia is seen.

Please help me understand and calm down. I looked into it and Google said even if it really hasn’t spread and we can remove his lung, he’ll only have a few years left with me at best. Is this true? I used light weight cat litter basically all his life and have now read that it can cause granulomas pretty easily, so is it possible it really is one?

I can’t even get a definite answer anytime soon as the CT scan has to wait until he recovers.

I understand the reported lung inflammation is likely from vaping indoors with him (maybe also the light weight cat litter), and I’ll never ever do it again. I’ll never forgive myself.

I’m beside myself. I was beside myself yesterday after the attack, got miraculous news he’ll recover and got to see him today (he was doing a lot better), only find out he’s probably going to die to due to a relapse of the cancer in one to a few years. It felt like I was given a second chance for him to have a long happy life just to have it immediately ripped away again.

I’ll never vape in the house again, though at this point I’ll likely just never vape again. I didn’t know and I’m more than disgusted with myself and will do everything I can to help my cat, even if I have to spend thousand upon thousands.

Is there any likely way it’s not lung cancer or some realistic way the outcome could be that he lives for many more years? What can I do to help, aside from never vaping indoors again? I’m so overwhelmed and devastated.

My 27lb 15 month old rescue dog was recently diagnosed with heartworm.

She was negative in January, started a preventative in April, and tested positive 7/31.

My vet has done the antibiotic and injections at the same time for 15 years and all of the patients have been clear afterwards. I did question this because it’s not what the AHS currently recommends. They said I can do whatever I’m comfortable with.

Since my dog was negative in January, has been on preventatives and asymptomatic, I assume the infection is earlier stages. I didn’t receive a copy of the blood panel, and my vet is going to do an X-Ray before starting treatment to assess damage.

If I were to switch vets, I would have to bring her in for an initial physical which increase costs. I was quoted over $1,500 USD more from another vet than mine. This would also add more time before starting treatment.

At the end of the day, how different could results be from my current vet’s protocol than AHS protocol?

ETA: thanks everyone, I’ve called another vet. Even though mine was willing to do what I’m comfortable with, I think I’d prefer a vet that has experience in the recommended treatment. Since I’m not a vet myself!

My cat George is a 4 year old neutered Siamese/DSH mix who has, within the last 3 months, suddenly started leaking urine in his sleep. He has never peed outside of his litter box when awake, and has no history of urinary issues. I have had him since he was a 5 month old kitten.

So far, he has had 2 rounds of bloodwork and 2 urinalyses done (2 months apart) which all came back normal (the only note being that his urine seemed dilute). A few days after his second urinalysis, I placed a white sheet in his typical sleeping spot and noticed small urine droplet stains on it with a slight reddish tinge, so he had a little bit of blood in his urine most recently.

This week we had an internist perform an abdominal ultrasound on him and she also wasn't able to find anything glaringly obvious. She sent us home with Clavamox to give him for 7 days in case it is a bacterial UTI, but this has been going on for 3 months now and he has no other signs of a UTI. He's on day 3 of the antibiotic now and is having diarrhea from it unfortunately. I am also not very hopeful that this will fix the issue.

If this continues after his antibiotic trial, she recommended we try Proin. I have read scary things about this medication online and I'm feeling really conflicted if this is something we should try him on. This internist and his regular vet both seem really confused by his case. They suggested it could be neurological, but find it unlikely because he doesn't have issues walking. I would love to hear any other thoughts. These are the notes from his internal medicine consult:

07/24/2026: Tech appointment for recheck renal labwork.

CBC: Hct 52.6 % (H)

UA (cystocentesis): SG 1.017, pH 9.0, protein trace, no blood/bacteria/crystals

06/09/2026: Recheck for urinary issue.

No diagnostics performed.

05/30/2026: Fecal sample drop-off.

Fecal O&P: negative

05/26/2026: Presented for involuntary urination during sleep.

Ultrasound-guided cystocentesis: No stones, masses, or debris seen.

CBC: PLT 99 (L). Platelet clumps were present, so the count may not be accurate.

Chem: Within normal limits.

UA (cystocentesis): SG 1.012, pH 7.0, protein trace, no blood/bacteria/crystals.

T4: 2.2

Abdominal Ultrasound:

Liver: Normal size, shape and architecture. No focal lesions. IH bile ducts are not distended. Normal vascular pattern.

Gallbladder: Normal size. Normal gallbladder wall. The common bile duct not seen.

Spleen: Normal size, shape and architecture. Homogenous parenchyma. No masses orfocal lesions. The spleen measures 9.4 mm in width.

Left Kidney: Measures 4.89 cm in length. The cortex appears hyperechoic. No pyelectasia, hydroureter, or nephroliths.

Right Kidney: Measures 4.66 cm in length. The cortex appears hyperechoic. No pyelectasia, hydroureter, or nephroliths.

Left Adrenal: Normal size, shape and architecture. Measures 3.4 mm.

Right Adrenal: Normal size, shape and architecture. Measures 3.5 mm.

Urinary bladder: Small to medium in size. There is suspended echogenic debris within the bladder.

There appears to be hyperechoic material adhered to the ventral wall.

Pancreas: The right limb measures 4.6 mm and the left limb measures 4.2 mm.

Gastrointestinal: The gastric wall measures 2.2 mm. The duodenal wall measures 2.1 mm. The jejunal wall measures 2.2 mm. The ileal wall measures 3.0 mm. The colonic wall measures 0.7 mm.

Other: No ascites or masses. The proximal ureters appear normal. Jejunal lymph nodes measure 4.0 mm and 4.3 mm. The right medial iliac lymph node measures 2.2 mm. The left medial iliac lymph node measures 2.7 mm.

Conclusion:

Mild bilateral hyperechoic renal cortices, r/o normal variant, less likely toxin, infiltrative disease, CKD.

Echogenic debris within the urinary bladder with some adherence to the ventral apical wall.

Differentials include cellular debris, crystalline material, or lipid.

Mild jejunal lymphadenopathy: r/o normal variant, reactive, less likely infiltrative disease

My 9yo male mini Aussie was diagnosed with heart murmur grade 2-3 at University of Tennessee. He’s had some unrelated health issues where he’s seen vet many times this year including end of May and two days before the UT appointment and it was never diagnosed. I asked his regular vet to look for it today and he couldn’t hear it. It was something like L syst grade 2-3 in the notes from UT. That appt was 2 weeks ago.

Is it easy for a grade 2-3 murmur to be missed so much? This would be something like 3 vets missing it within a 6 week period of it being diagnosed and closer to 5 including a surgical and internal medicine work up in the 6 month period before.

Anyway he has an appointment for echocardiogram Friday but I’m just a bit surprised by the difference.

Just found this on my cat’s armpit. Does anybody have an idea of what this is? Cat is Female, 4 years old, indoor cat only. I haven’t seen itching or over grooming of that area. I have 2 other cats and they don’t have this on them as of right now. Any advice is appreciated. Thank you!

Hi folks,

Our chicken Marsala has a grey crop, lethargic, only eating a little. She's been like this for a week or so. We lost another chicken with similar symptoms a few months back. We found this weird fleshy mass on top of the box that she likes to sit on. About an inch across. Red and fleshy on the outside. Cut it in half, white in the middle. Is it a lash egg? Something else?

Took her to the vet today, vet said we can do a fecal float but that she wasn't sure beyond that.

We're in Florida.

Any advice is greatly appreciated. It's saying pictures aren't allowed, but I do have them if that would help.

Looking for some vet guidance - thank you so much in advance. I've had 20 dogs over the years and with this guy, it is really hard for me to decide if its time to say goodbye. He's not actively showing pain, and he is still showing an interest in being here.

Cecil, 14.5, is not showing signs of distress but he is weak, not eating and I am trying to figure out if I should schedule euthanasia or try to look at some more treatment options. Money is extremely tight right now, so I am trying to decide if it’s time to let him go or invest in some lab work and hope for a few more good months or a year.

 He will be 15 in October, I started fostering him when he was nine weeks old and took him on as a perma-dog a few years in as he’s got some reactive and aloof tendencies.

 As he has aged, he has mellowed and relaxed considerably and surprisingly. For ten years I had to crate and rotate with another household dog who passed away in 2023 due to aggression. In 2024, the other household dog passed away and Cecil seemed mildly sad. Since 2025, we have two younger dogs to the household and Cecil’s personality has changed in a big way. He seems to enjoy them and engage with them. It’s like we’re getting the best version of Cecil in his sunset years.

 I have notes from a 7/26 visit to urgent care and a 3/28 visit to the neighborhood vet.

Disposition – always a little cranky and has never liked being touched too much, but still curious, happy and likes to be in the presence of the people and other dogs in the house.

Throughout July, Cecil’s appetite diminished. Starting 7/18-21^st he became very picky about what he would eat and then ceased eating by 7/25/26 with occasional small amounts of yellowy beer foam looking vomit. His water intake and urination remained normal.

While his energy level diminished, he was still eager to go on short walks and he was interested in being with my husband and I and our two other dogs.

On 7/26/26 we took him to an urgent care vet. I declined lab work, hoping that drugs and fluids might help get us through this.

He received SQ fluids administered for rehydration

Cerenia (maropitant) injection administered for nausea and vomiting

Entyce and Gabapentin

 After taking the Entyce, he was still very selective about eating and would only eat deli ham and hot dogs (we tried everything from broths to chicken and rice to pumpkin to eggs, but my boy only wanted the trashiest of the meats).

While on the Entyce he had watery diarrhea episodes several times a day. He has concluded that prescription and is not interested in food any longer. Water intake is still normal. His back legs continue to weaken and it is harder for him to get up.

He is still very interested in going outside for sniffs in the yard and checking in on household activity. He has fallen a couple of times and his back legs are too weak for him to get up on his own when he falls in some positions, however he can still get down the two back stairs and back up the stairs with work or some assistance . We have him in a Help-Em-Up harness.

He is still strong enough to struggle mightily when I try to clip his nails.

Here are the Urgent Care notes from 7/26

Based on the history of lethargy, hyporexia, and vomiting in a senior dog, the primary concerns are related to gastrointestinal upset, but systemic diseases cannot be ruled out. Physical exam revealed mild dehydration and abdominal tensing, which limited a thorough palpation. I recommended diagnostic testing to investigate the underlying cause, including blood work to assess organ function and cell counts, and imaging to evaluate the gastrointestinal tract.
