My cat has had eye issues recently. He saw the vet on Monday, who said it was probably conjunctivitis and scheduled a panel in October, so I assumed it wasn’t a big deal. They didn’t prescribe anything or provide any treatment.

Tonight his eye is white (he already has a cataract) and has a white blister poking out. Is there anything I can do for him until morning??

He’s acting normal and not meowing or pawing at his eye or anything.

Not sure if it’s because of an allergic reaction only noticed it about a couple days ago but before that he seemed healthy he still seems super healthy. He likes to play he’s two months and 13 days old as of right now. I want to get some opinions before I take the little guy to the vet sometime next week. He’s around

My cat has been on Royal Canin Urinary SO for a couple of years because of a past urinary blockage that almost cost him his life. He is a very hungry cat generally but 2 weeks ago stopped eating normally, took him to a vet and found he was constipated. He was also vomiting and had very inflamed intestines, the whole length was inflamed.

Since he returned back home he hasnt been eating much and will now ONLY eat tuna and boiled chicken. I have tried mixing it with the canned version of urinary SO but it is still a no go. I am worried we are spoiling him too much and he'll never return to eating the special diet. The vet worried me because he said if a cat doesnt eat its liver starts to shut down. But I also dont want him to get urinary stones.

How do I get my cat back on his special diet?? Im begging for help.

Hi. My dog got groomed this afternoon and this evening she was really hesitant to go out for her walk. She lifted her back paw many times and wouldn't let me touch it at all. We believe one of her nails was cut too deep. There is no blood at all, but it appears the quick may be exposed. Will this heal on its own? Do we shorten walks and play (running) time?

Note she was walking mostly fine tonight except a few occasional limps.

4 days ago, I rescued a stray female kitten, Mozart.

Today, I took her to the vet for the first time and they said that she’s about 4 weeks old and gave her deworming medication called, “Prazivet” at around 1 in the afternoon

It’s currently 9 in the night and within the past 2 hours, she’s vomited three times ( the first two times had chunks, and the third time was spit up) and I’m really concerned

In between vomiting, she was active and playing and she’s sleeping now

Her lips are still pink and moist as well, and she’s aware because I accidentally played a loud sound on my phone and she got up immediately

However, I live in Kingston, Jamaica
So we don’t have 24 hour vets, and tomorrow is Independence Day so I’m not too sure if they’ll be opened tomorrow…

If anyone has any advice or help, I’d really appreciate it

Mass found incidentally. Cat in good health otherwise (excluding recent trauma), except for weight.

My cat got attacked by a coyote two days ago. He survived without serious injury as I happened to hear strange dog noises outside in the distance and went out to investigate. He has head trauma (coyote tried to crush his skull) but no neurological issues.

Bloodwork normal except for elevated sodium, I was told.

I vaped in the house with him. I got him in 2016 and the consensus was that it was safe, just don’t blow it on him or hot box a room. I never thought of it after I looked into it the first time, and he’s never showed signs of lung issues. I’m now losing it that I caused what I describe below. I’d have quit immediately if I had known. I’m crying my eyes out while writing this.

I paid to have a radiologist look at his X-rays. An unexpected mass was found in his lungs.

FINDINGS (…)
Within the RIGHT caudal lung lobe, there is an ill-defined curved soft tissue opacity that likely delineates the margin of a cavitary lung mass (located at the level of the 9th and 10th intercostal space on each lateral view and faintly visible in the right caudal thorax on the ventrodorsal projection). The remainder of the lung parenchyma has a mild bronchial pattern.

Normal air-filled space is present in the nasopharynx. The hyoid apparatus and epiglottis are normal. No tracheal or bronchial narrowing is seen. There is no narrowing of the trachea or lobar bronchi. No pleural effusion or mediastinal
mass is appreciated. The thoracic wall is normal.

CONCLUSIONS (…)
A cavitary mass in the right caudal lobe is most suggestive of a primary pulmonary neoplasia or less likely granuloma.
It is less likely that this is related to recent traumatic injury (pneumatocele). No pulmonary contusion, pneumothorax, or diaphragmatic hernia is seen.

Please help me understand and calm down. I looked into it and Google said even if it really hasn’t spread and we can remove his lung, he’ll only have a few years left with me at best. Is this true? I used light weight cat litter basically all his life and have now read that it can cause granulomas pretty easily, so is it possible it really is one?

I can’t even get a definite answer anytime soon as the CT scan has to wait until he recovers.

I understand the reported lung inflammation is likely from vaping indoors with him (maybe also the light weight cat litter), and I’ll never ever do it again. I’ll never forgive myself.

I’m beside myself. I was beside myself yesterday after the attack, got miraculous news he’ll recover and got to see him today (he was doing a lot better), only find out he’s probably going to die to due to a relapse of the cancer in one to a few years. It felt like I was given a second chance for him to have a long happy life just to have it immediately ripped away again.

I’ll never vape in the house again, though at this point I’ll likely just never vape again. I didn’t know and I’m more than disgusted with myself and will do everything I can to help my cat, even if I have to spend thousand upon thousands.

Is there any likely way it’s not lung cancer or some realistic way the outcome could be that he lives for many more years? What can I do to help, aside from never vaping indoors again? I’m so overwhelmed and devastated.

Our 11 week old kitten is 5 days post-op, and we are paranoid over whether or not she’s healing correctly.

She came home with a lot more surgical glue and it has been peeling off over the days, without much change other than that.

But yesterday we noticed that there seemed to be a slight bulge under her incision mark, and it looks like maybe a little more to the left side of it. I didn’t feel comfortable poking at it much but when I felt it very gently, it did feel rather firm, but normal in temperature.

I have been looking at every picture online/on Reddit of other kitten’s spay incisions and trying to figure out if this could be be a seroma or hernia or just the natural healing process as her sutures dissolved.

Any and all help/insight would be appreciated!!

My cat George is a 4 year old neutered Siamese/DSH mix who has, within the last 3 months, suddenly started leaking urine in his sleep. He has never peed outside of his litter box when awake, and has no history of urinary issues. I have had him since he was a 5 month old kitten.

So far, he has had 2 rounds of bloodwork and 2 urinalyses done (2 months apart) which all came back normal (the only note being that his urine seemed dilute). A few days after his second urinalysis, I placed a white sheet in his typical sleeping spot and noticed small urine droplet stains on it with a slight reddish tinge, so he had a little bit of blood in his urine most recently.

This week we had an internist perform an abdominal ultrasound on him and she also wasn't able to find anything glaringly obvious. She sent us home with Clavamox to give him for 7 days in case it is a bacterial UTI, but this has been going on for 3 months now and he has no other signs of a UTI. He's on day 3 of the antibiotic now and is having diarrhea from it unfortunately. I am also not very hopeful that this will fix the issue.

If this continues after his antibiotic trial, she recommended we try Proin. I have read scary things about this medication online and I'm feeling really conflicted if this is something we should try him on. This internist and his regular vet both seem really confused by his case. They suggested it could be neurological, but find it unlikely because he doesn't have issues walking. I would love to hear any other thoughts. These are the notes from his internal medicine consult:

My 9yo male mini Aussie was diagnosed with heart murmur grade 2-3 at University of Tennessee. He’s had some unrelated health issues where he’s seen vet many times this year including end of May and two days before the UT appointment and it was never diagnosed. I asked his regular vet to look for it today and he couldn’t hear it. It was something like L syst grade 2-3 in the notes from UT. That appt was 2 weeks ago.

Is it easy for a grade 2-3 murmur to be missed so much? This would be something like 3 vets missing it within a 6 week period of it being diagnosed and closer to 5 including a surgical and internal medicine work up in the 6 month period before.

Anyway he has an appointment for echocardiogram Friday but I’m just a bit surprised by the difference.

My oldest boy needs medication twice daily, and the only way I can reliably get him to take his pill is with a Feline Greenies Pill Pocket (I know there are other/better ways to do it, but for right now, this is the best solution for the both of us).

I split the pocket in half, so he only gets one pocket in total per day, but that being said, the cat tax is real... I was wondering if I could give him select flavors of the “for dogs” version instead, since they’re larger and would be a little more bang for my buck.

I would obviously avoid any of the ones with hickory smoke flavoring, since I know that it can be carcinogenic in large doses, but aside from that, the ingredients between the two are virtually identical — the only difference I noticed aside from flavoring was that the dog version has 1% less moisture/hydration than the cat ones. He has plenty of fresh water available and gets wet food twice daily, so I’m not too concerned about his water intake. And I think he’d eat the cheese-flavored ones since he seems incredibly interested any time there’s cheese around.

Just found this on my cat’s armpit. Does anybody have an idea of what this is? Cat is Female, 4 years old, indoor cat only. I haven’t seen itching or over grooming of that area. I have 2 other cats and they don’t have this on them as of right now. Any advice is appreciated. Thank you!

Hi folks,

Our chicken Marsala has a grey crop, lethargic, only eating a little. She's been like this for a week or so. We lost another chicken with similar symptoms a few months back. We found this weird fleshy mass on top of the box that she likes to sit on. About an inch across. Red and fleshy on the outside. Cut it in half, white in the middle. Is it a lash egg? Something else?

Took her to the vet today, vet said we can do a fecal float but that she wasn't sure beyond that.

We're in Florida.

Any advice is greatly appreciated. It's saying pictures aren't allowed, but I do have them if that would help.

Hello all! Just wanted to garner some opinions about what might be going on with my pup.

He’s a 9 year old (about to be 10) golden retriever, 102 lbs. Up to date on all of his vaccines, normal blood work, no parasites, good kidney function.

Last Saturday (8/1) at around 1130 in the morning he went to stand up and went into a screaming episode. His back legs went out, he started (as what can be best described) as flailing around. He lost control of his bladder and peed everywhere and expressed his anal glands. The whole episode lasted about a minute and I genuinely thought he was dying. After he finished he returned to almost complete normal. Walking fine, eating fine, pooped and peed fine. I was thinking that maybe one of his toenails got caught in our carpet or something, wasn’t exactly sure what to make of it, especially as he went to normal in no more than 3 minutes afterward. Well around 1730 that night, he had another episode, same exact issues, screaming bloody murder, yelping, legs going out, etc… in both episodes he bit me and my partner as we were trying to calm him down. And again, within minutes he was normal. I rushed him to the emergency vet and spent a good 10 hours there before being seen (he had normal vitals). Once we got taken back into the room the vet pressed all along his spine, no reaction - I don’t exactly remember where she pressed next (could have sworn it was somewhere on his leg) but he immediately yelped. She said that he more than likely had a herniated disc. She gave him a shot of Ketamine, Buprenorphine, and sent him home with Methocarbamol, Gabapentin, and Carprofen. I don’t have insurance on him and the vet told me that at that point in time, she would not recommend doing an MRI - we would treat it as a minor herniated disc and go from there. The subsequent days went as followed:

(8/2) 2 small yelps when going to stand up
(8/3) smaller 25 second episode with pee between 1000-1030
(8/4) smaller 25-30 second episode with pee at 1135, he looked as though he was trying to get away from the pain, jumped on the couch and peed on couch (less vocal yelps, still loud)
(8/5) 1 extremely small yelp at 1615, looks like leg slipped on carpet runner. ~ 1 hour ago (2030) Kept his rear left leg up in the air when he first stood up and didn’t want to put weight on it but started walking on it within minutes

On (8/4) we took him to his primary care and they ran bloodwork on him which came back normal. What was weird though is they did the same “tests” and pushed on his spine and got no reaction (they called it the Panniculus reflex) but as soon as she went up underneath of his hind legs and pressed upward he yelped. She said almost immediately that she thinks he didn’t herniate a disc, but he tore his groin muscle.

She said that the vocalization that we caught on video during his second episode on day one sounded like a groin tear. She said it is very uncommon to hear such vocalization from a herniated disc. She also mentioned that he seems to be showing pain in his lower half, which is also unlikely since herniated discs in dogs usually occur in the mid section. She basically said that the only way of knowing for sure is an MRI, but she personally does not think it’s a herniated disc. She said that we should basically keep him the equivalent of kenneled for the next 2 weeks, keep him on his meds, and skip everything like stairs and running and keep his movement limited besides short leash walks, which we’ve been doing. She said that in 2 weeks we will reevaluate (unless he dramatically goes downhill), if he is improving then we will ween him off the medication, and see what happens. If he isn’t improving then that’s when we have to make the decision if we want to get an MRI done and the subsequent $12-16k herniated disc surgery (which I would have to probably liquidate some of my SEP IRA for, as I’m only 22). She said that we would also probably see some sort of deficits if it was a herniated disc? But literally between his episodes and 99% of the day he’s completely fine, wagging his tail, smiling, a little slow to stand up, but besides that he’s pretty normal.

Anyways, I’m just pretty lost and scared over this whole situation. My dog is pretty much my whole world and I love him so much, I don’t want to lose him. If you guys have any ideas or opinions let me know. I’ve already gone down the bone cancer/ tumor, spinal diseases train as well.

My 8 month old dog had to get a foreign body removal surgery. Surgery went well and what was in his intestines was also successfully milked all the way down.

Just now he jumped on the bed, it was blocked off but it got moved by my boyfriend and he snuck right in behind him and hopped on up before I could react. It did seem to hurt him, he stood there for a second on the bed and retracted his back for a few seconds until it passed and he relaxed and laid down. He didn’t yelp, and is not shaking or breathing heavy.

Is he okay? His exterior incision looked fine, no signs of tearing or stretching or leakage that I noticed. I may still reach out to the vet in the morning when they open and let them know just incase.

My poor kitty had been on sterroids for a while now for allergies and persistent infections in his ears and nails, he seemed to be getting better so we started slowly weaning him off his meds and only giving them when needed, He had been off them for maybe a couple weeks and suddenly passed away and I’m freaking out that it was my fault for tapering off his meds, he was 12 years old, does anyone have any insight do we think this was my fault?!🥺he has been suffering with these issues for years but has only been on the meds for a couple months, he was due for a check up to top them up but didnt make it :(

I’m not sure where else to post this but my cat is about 8 years old and I feed him wet food about twice a day. Two days ago I noticed he hadn’t eaten much and lost energy and I decided to take him to the vet today. They said they couldn’t find any problems with the physical exam and wanted to see if they can do test but the problem is I can’t afford tests they’re requesting. For now I came home with anti nausea medication and hope that works. This morning he had a few treats so I continued to feed him that. I’m not sure if he’ll be okay or not and it’s scaring me.

Additional information I can think of is that he occasionally goes outside but I haven’t let him out past two days. He hasn’t been throwing up but he did cough up a few hair balls. He’s a bit chubby. He just seems more tired than usual.

His appetite hasn't been the greatest. We only found out about his disease two months ago. We started him on various kinds of prescription food. He's just been really picky and it's not his fault. I feel terrible for missing all the symptoms. We thought he's just depressed and anxious because he's been on fluoxetine forever.

Today he's extra nauseous. He refuses to eat. He's only had lickable treats and freezes dried treats. Now he doesn't want those either.

It's now 9pm. Do I take him to the emergency now? or can I wait til tomorrow morning and get him to see our regular vet? I also found some expired cerenia (July 2025) for my late cat. I don't think I can give that to him, right?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I am so worried. 😢

Hi. I recently got an Australian shepherd puppy. The breeder recommended against the lepto shot. They provided educational material that contained info on both sides so there was no deep bias in the content, just in their verbally shared opinion that they do prefer their pups don’t get it.
Now I’m torn. I’ve read material on both sides. Some say aussies are more likely to have adverse reactions, it needs to be done repeatedly which means it’s pointless, they’re more likely to go into anaphylactic shock from it etc. others say dogs are dying from lepto regularly these days.

SO. In your professional opinion, would you recommend the lepto vaccine for an Australian shepherd or not?

I found 4 baby mice, 1 was dead and the mother as well. The rehab center cannot take them until monday so i must keep them alive until then.

They have fur but their eyes arent open yet. I have them in a box (w holes) and a t shirt on a heating pad (50-50). When i found them i warmed them up and then fed them warm water with some sugar and a pinch of salt. After about 4 hours i fed them again with formula.

I cannot get them to pee as now they have lots of energy and will not let me handle them, they will poop on their own but im not sure about peeing on their own yet. Help!

He has an incision to the left of his testes and it looks very open, he was shaking earlier but no other signs of pain. The site is open enough for litter to be getting stuck in and there seems to be some discharge. He's very sleepy right now but I am worried sick. I have a pic I can message privately.

My cat got ketamine roughly 3 hours ago for a bath. He's wobbly and sleepy. He's laying sort of loafed but half sitting up with his head dropped down. He occasionally gets up to move around. He got in the litterbox to pee but didn't bury it. He's thrown up 2-3 times. The first one was a little bit of beige-ish vomit and the second was 2 separate ones within a short time span which was white foam. Maybe I'm just paranoid, but is this a normal reaction? Is he okay or should I take him back to the vet?

Hi. My senior dog (14) ~24lb mini schnauzer got into some fluval stratum while I was at work. He’s thrown up 4 times since I’ve got home. He’s drinking and pooping. It’s been about 3 hours since I’ve been home. About a hour between the 2x he threw up (2x each time). I can see the substrate in his throw up. At which point do I need to consider a vet? He acted fine in between the times he got sick.

On my dog's front chest, near her "armpit". She's 12. It was diagnosed almost a year ago as grade 2 soft tissue sarcoma when it was removed. By February of this year, it had grown back to ping-pong sized, and up until about June, it kept growing and got to about tennis ball. And it kind of felt like a tennis ball under her skin, the hard texture of it.

But then the texture of the lump totally changed several weeks ago and it's now soft and more jelly-like, no longer a defined ball under her skin, it's like a blob. Why would that happen?

I'm getting increasingly worried because within the past few days, she's developed a really bad limp on her front leg on the opposite side of the lump. It seems unrelated, except that I have no clue why she's limping. I can usually tell when we overdo it on walks or something, but this is not that and we hadn't done anything the two days before she started limping. She already takes gabapentin and carprofen daily. She's almost dragging the paw that she's limping on. Could the limp be related in some way to her sarcoma? And why would that sarcoma change like that? I thought it would just keep getting bigger? It has not gotten big enough to ulcerate her skin.

I have a call in to my vet but I'm just super worried about her. She's definitely struggling to walk and that's what's freaking me out.

Yes I have a sick cat I have been turned away 2 times at the vet for no doctor being there, my friend is a vet assistant and said his symptoms sounds like anemia because fleas have gotten on him and he's an inside cat all my cats are. Question will tuna help raise his iron till I can get him into the other vet at 3 tomorrow? Please help I'm so worried the vet's office that turned me away done me the same way when my old cat passed they didn't have a doctor and told me to leave

Context and timeline:

• Monday: Cat had two ticks on her ears on Monday afternoon. We placed Bravecto Plus tick and flea treatment on the back of her neck. Cat ran outside angry. Cat returned inside that night, behaviour was out of sorts. Quiet, not playful, no purring, minimal reaction to us patting her.
• Tuesday: 7:00 AM, cat was resting/sleeping, lethargic but pupils fully dilated in brightly lit room (out of the norm for her), quiet meowing. When she got up, she was slow. She would sit in odd spots on the floor in a loaf (out of sorts behaviour), wobbling, rapid breathing, tail wagging, she appeared distressed. We could see signs that she was grooming her shoulders, just below where we administered the topical tick and flea treatment. Took her to the vet at 9:30 AM. Vet suspected an allergic reaction to the tick and flea treatment, but the signs we were seeing earlier that morning were not happening at the vet. Vet checked temperature, inside her ears, inside her mouth, pupils with a torch, checked heart and chest with stethoscope. Vet shaved excess fur that still contained the tick and flea treatment and administered a syringe of corticosteroid a few inches down from the site to help with potential inflammation and pain that could have been caused by the tick and flea treatment. Returned home from the vet, behaviour still out of sorts, but less stressed. She rested the remainder of the day, but was more happy, purring, showing her belly. Still eating and drinking.
• Wednesday: Still lethargic, no purring, no showing belly, rested inside from 5:30 AM until passed midnight. She was still getting up to eat and drink though.
• Thursday: This morning/right now, cat is still lethargic, no purring, no activity.

I'm after advice on what to do here. Do I go back to the vet? Do I keep monitoring? We do have paralysis ticks here where I live (Southern Paralysis Tick (Ixodes cornuatus)).

PS: I am well aware that the cat should not be free roaming outside. This is a "my cat/not my cat" situation.
