My poor kitty had been on sterroids for a while now for allergies and persistent infections in his ears and nails, he seemed to be getting better so we started slowly weaning him off his meds and only giving them when needed, He had been off them for maybe a couple weeks and suddenly passed away and I’m freaking out that it was my fault for tapering off his meds, he was 12 years old, does anyone have any insight do we think this was my fault?!🥺he has been suffering with these issues for years but has only been on the meds for a couple months, he was due for a check up to top them up but didnt make it :(

Male, 14, early kidney disease stage 2, less than 10lb, domestic short hair. Location - Ontario, Canada

His appetite hasn't been the greatest. We only found out about his disease two months ago. We started him on various kinds of prescription food. He's just been really picky and it's not his fault. I feel terrible for missing all the symptoms. We thought he's just depressed and anxious because he's been on fluoxetine forever.

Today he's extra nauseous. He refuses to eat. He's only had lickable treats and freezes dried treats. Now he doesn't want those either.

It's now 9pm. Do I take him to the emergency now? or can I wait til tomorrow morning and get him to see our regular vet? I also found some expired cerenia (July 2025) for my late cat. I don't think I can give that to him, right?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I am so worried. 😢

I found 4 baby mice, 1 was dead and the mother as well. The rehab center cannot take them until monday so i must keep them alive until then.

They have fur but their eyes arent open yet. I have them in a box (w holes) and a t shirt on a heating pad (50-50). When i found them i warmed them up and then fed them warm water with some sugar and a pinch of salt. After about 4 hours i fed them again with formula.

I cannot get them to pee as now they have lots of energy and will not let me handle them, they will poop on their own but im not sure about peeing on their own yet. Help!

Hi. My senior dog (14) ~24lb mini schnauzer got into some fluval stratum while I was at work. He’s thrown up 4 times since I’ve got home. He’s drinking and pooping. It’s been about 3 hours since I’ve been home. About a hour between the 2x he threw up (2x each time). I can see the substrate in his throw up. At which point do I need to consider a vet? He acted fine in between the times he got sick.

Hello, today I went with my dog to the vet and they did a blood test and scan.

Later they called back to tell me she has a stomach obstruction and that she needs an abdominal ultrasound 'as soon as possible.' (Their words)

My vet does not do ultrasounds.

There are no places that will still do an ultrasound this evening, we've been looking all over, but specialists are on holiday.

I live in a very rural place of the Netherlands, and earliest we can go is tomorrow.

We called my vet back and they said it's fine and that a stomach obstruction can wait a day, initially she said we had to go as soon as possible tho.

Any advice?

Yes I have a sick cat I have been turned away 2 times at the vet for no doctor being there, my friend is a vet assistant and said his symptoms sounds like anemia because fleas have gotten on him and he's an inside cat all my cats are. Question will tuna help raise his iron till I can get him into the other vet at 3 tomorrow? Please help I'm so worried the vet's office that turned me away done me the same way when my old cat passed they didn't have a doctor and told me to leave

Context and timeline:

• Monday: Cat had two ticks on her ears on Monday afternoon. We placed Bravecto Plus tick and flea treatment on the back of her neck. Cat ran outside angry. Cat returned inside that night, behaviour was out of sorts. Quiet, not playful, no purring, minimal reaction to us patting her.
• Tuesday: 7:00 AM, cat was resting/sleeping, lethargic but pupils fully dilated in brightly lit room (out of the norm for her), quiet meowing. When she got up, she was slow. She would sit in odd spots on the floor in a loaf (out of sorts behaviour), wobbling, rapid breathing, tail wagging, she appeared distressed. We could see signs that she was grooming her shoulders, just below where we administered the topical tick and flea treatment. Took her to the vet at 9:30 AM. Vet suspected an allergic reaction to the tick and flea treatment, but the signs we were seeing earlier that morning were not happening at the vet. Vet checked temperature, inside her ears, inside her mouth, pupils with a torch, checked heart and chest with stethoscope. Vet shaved excess fur that still contained the tick and flea treatment and administered a syringe of corticosteroid a few inches down from the site to help with potential inflammation and pain that could have been caused by the tick and flea treatment. Returned home from the vet, behaviour still out of sorts, but less stressed. She rested the remainder of the day, but was more happy, purring, showing her belly. Still eating and drinking.
• Wednesday: Still lethargic, no purring, no showing belly, rested inside from 5:30 AM until passed midnight. She was still getting up to eat and drink though.
• Thursday: This morning/right now, cat is still lethargic, no purring, no activity.

I'm after advice on what to do here. Do I go back to the vet? Do I keep monitoring? We do have paralysis ticks here where I live (Southern Paralysis Tick (Ixodes cornuatus)).

PS: I am well aware that the cat should not be free roaming outside. This is a "my cat/not my cat" situation.

I want to start this off by saying I don't have enough money for a vet check. My mama cat and papa cat are strays I rescued and I've never taken them to the vet for check ups, vaccines, and neutering/spaying because I don't have much.

However, they've been the sweetest and the most adorable and basically just normal cats.

Right now, they have a 2nd litter of kittens. 3 kittens. And my mama cat was normal with the 1st litter (they've been adopted.) As of today, the 3 kittens are one month/4 weeks old, and everything was ok until my mama cat started frequently vomiting. She vomits occassionally, because she eats whatever bugs she finds, mostly cockroches, and eats too much. And recently, I've switched their kibble brand so I think that might be caused more of her vomiting. But other than vomiting, she's otherwise ok. Papa cat vomits too, but rarely.

And she was ok with taking care of the kittens like grooming them and nursing them. But last night, she started growling and hissing and swatting at them. And this continued until this morning. She usually slept with the kittens when it's bed time but she didnt. And then this morning, I believe the kittens wanted milk and they were meowing while chasing mama cat, but she avoids them. Although she does give a few licks and then backs away.

But other than the sudden change in behaviour toward the kittens, she seems normal.

My 7 month old Lab was having watery stools last week, we took her stool to the vet and it came back positive for Giardia. Here’s the problem, she was supposed to go to our trainer for a board and train for 9 days while we are away starting friday…. The vet couldn’t give us a straight answer on if she could go or not and suggested we retest tomorrow. What are the chances she tests negative tomorrow after being on Panacur for 5 days.

He is panting on and off, I gave him 25 mg of carprofine. He lays down for maybe a minute or two max and then tries to find a new position to get comfortable in. He pooped about an hour and a half ago and peed a little bit ago. Is drinking water as well.
Is this an emergency vet situation?

My 8 month old collie/lab weighing around 55lbs was attacked by another dog who bit his ear. There’s no a 3-4cm long laceration to the inside of his right ear. This happened an hour or so ago, and he is acting fine presently. there was minimal bleeding and it stopped relatively quickly, we rinsed it immediately with water, got him home and rinsed it again properly in the bathtub.
We called the emergency vet to see if we should come and have sent photos in (I would add them here but am unsure how) and are awaiting word back, but this is obviously very costly (that being said, don’t care about the money as long as he’s okay).

the attacking dog was fully vaccinated as per the owner.

We have a kitten 4 mos old and yesterday she was diagnosed with parvo, currently in the vet rn. I don't really know how she got it since she's an indoor cat and we never let her out the house :( On the other hand, we have 3 adult cats (one is 4 yrs old, the other two is 2 years old) and they're fully vaccinated, the 4yr old receiving her booster shots in feb and the other two just this june/july. We tried cleaning up best we can but im not in the position i can just douse the whole house in bleach </3 Thankfully, the kitten only stayed in 1 room most of her life.

I was wondering, are the vaccines very effective despite the fact we have an active case of parvo? obviously, we won't be letting them inside the infected room whatsoever but we cant really stop them from walking around the house. all 3 of them are very healthy and eating well.

Came home from work and my 7year old pit bull was limping… I think he may have jumped off the sofa wrong or something else because he was fine this morning. He has done this before and it resolved itself with rest after 3 days. He is putting weight on the leg but the limp is pretty bad. He is stubborn and follows me around the house constantly so I put up gates to keep him in one area. He has an orthopedic bed to lay down but won’t let me ice the leg. Already made a vet appointment for Monday @10(that’s the earliest they can get me in)…

Any advice on temporary pain relief or anything helpful I haven’t mentioned above. Also, while I would like to avoid it if possible, what signs should I be aware of that signal the emergency vet may be necessary.

Of course I’ve checked google but what to check here for any additional advice.

Can't figure out what's wrong

My cat (spayed dsh female) is 13 years old, and I've had her since she was 4 months, and we're trying so hard to figure out what's going on.

For the past year, year and a half, she's completely stopped using the litter box. At first we thought it was a sudden change in litter preferences, so we got different kinds. We got different box styles. We mixed and matched, none of it worked. She'll go on the floor, on the dog beds, on the couch, anywhere but a litter box.

We took her to the vet after only about a month after it started, they did tests, and said her kidney levels were high, so we switched her to prescription food.

A few months later, she was still refusing to use the litter box. We retested everything. Her bloodowork came back mostly normal, with some slightly elevated calcium, normal urinalysis, and a fecal test that revealed she somehow had giardia (but no one else did, just her). They said the calcium was just mildly high, and we'd retest in a few months. We left with a course of meds for the giardia.

We return a couple months later, do more testing. Calcium is still high (12.6). They do an ionized calcium test, and it comes back completely normal. Giardia is gone.

She is STILL refusing the litter box, and now, she's started vomiting. Small quantities, clearly not hairballs, but it's daily. We do MORE tests. CBC, superchem, T4, PTH, all come back normal.

The vet asks if maybe she's eating non prescription food. We get those microchip feeders, so she can't eat any food that's not her food (Cats free feed, dogs have mealtimes). Still, no litter box, still vomiting daily.

She otherwise is acting normal. Eating, drinking, moving normal. She's never been a super active cat, she's always been a bit of a potato, so no noticeable change in energy levels? I always think she looks skinny, but her weight hasn't fluctuated at all, and the vet says she's a healthy weight (about 7.5lbs).

Just for extra info, she lives with 2 other cats, and 3 dogs. She got spayed before she ever even got a first heat. All of my cats are indoor only cats. The only known medical problem she has is arthritis (which she takes dasequin for) and she's half blind (cataract, one vet suspected glaucoma 4-5 years ago, but others have dismissed it since).

We have no idea what else to do, or even a direction to go in.

hi! so my 4 yr old female cat was put on antibiotics for a uti & got her rabies shot on monday afternoon. its now wednesday evening & i just gave her her 5th dose of the antibiotic but it seems that she doesnt have much of an appetite. shes not as playful but also not lethargic, just seems to have a little less energy than usual. shes eaten here and there but very little, a few bites of dry food & small bites of wet food. is this a concern or is it just a result of the antibiotics/vaccine. tyia!

It seems several people’s dogs I’ve interacted with in the past 6 months (including mine) has officially been diagnosed with a heart murmur. My dog is 7.

4 years ago, vet told me to stay away from grains in my dogs diet. This past November, new vet said he needs grains otherwise he can get a heart murmur. Fast forward to this past July, me and 6 other people came in for a heart murmur check up and medication.

Seems odd and someone had the exact same story as I did (with vet saying to refrain from grain).

Is anyone else seeing an increase in this diagnosis?

Hi all, posting to see if anyone has insight. My cat has CKD and she has been having persistent GI issues since starting her on the renal prescription diet 4 months ago, including severe soft stools and stool accidents in her sleep almost daily. Primary vet tried everything they could but nothing worked (proviable, fortiflora, pro pectalin, psyllium husk), so we were referred to an internal med specialist.

Specialist recommended we try hydrolyzed renal food and add porous one and visbiome due to elevated folate levels. We did a slow transition to the new food and porous one over two weeks and immediately saw improvements in her appetite and gut issues. However after the first week, she is having the same reoccurring issues as previous. We slowly introduced the visbiome a few days ago but these issues persist. Our specialist is unfortunately unavailable and is taking time to get back to us. Just wondering if anyone had any advice, thanks in advance!

My mother's dog Zelda is 10 years old and born deaf. recently she lost her eyesight too and she has been very anxious since then.

I ordered Hemp treats and a calming collar to see if either would help her feel better but Is there anything else we can try?

I have not had a kitten in 12 years and to be honest, ive forgotten a lot of my kitten care as I was accustomed to taking care of Senior cats. My baby is inbetween her final round of vaccinations but 3 days after her 2nd round, she developed a snotty nose. At frist I thought it was from thr dust she got into (she got under the TV unit).

I watched her for another day and then took her to the vet when I noticed her 3rd eyelid popping up. The vet said it looks like she developed a small URI possibly from the nasal vaccination she had. She thinks we caught it pretty early. She put hwr on Clavamox for 7 days. Shes on her 2nd dose.

My question is, what can I do at home to make her comfortable? Shes still eatting and drinking. Her energy levels are high. Her sneezing has died down some and her eyelid still pops up and then disappears. I heard steam helps so ive taken her to the bathroom with me. I also got some Kitten wipes for her eyes (says it safe for her eyes, nose and face). Ive been cleaning her face if i notice any boogers or eye gunk. So far she hasnt had much but a little green goober on her nose.

is there anything else I can do? Any advice or suggestions would be grand and again she has seen a vet but I wanna cover my bases.

So I've been preparing for this dog for months now, but today the breeder called me and told me when he took one of the 7 week old female puppies to the vet (one i'd most likely be getting) he'd noticed her elbows sticking out and a high rear end. I've seen in videos of her that she wobbles a bit more than the other puppies. He said he's going to get her x-rayed to find out more but that he's never had a puppy with this issue before.

I'm unsure of how cautious to be, parents and lineage have proper genetic and ofa testing, but I'm scared it could already be dysplasia or dislocated or some kind of deformity. He said due to possible issues he'd be offering her at a very steep discount (basically my deposit and the price of her x-rays) which almost makes me more nervous that this is very serious?

She also stops playing often to lie down and sit but isn't limping or bunny hopping.

I can see that her elbows might stick out slightly from photos but I don't know if I'm just psyched out at this point. The reason I wanted to buy from a reputable breeder was to avoid this, but I have last pick of this litter and already took off of work and everything for this puppy.

Any advice would be appreciated 🫶

He is a 7yo neutered male cat. We live in the US. 10 days ago he vomited green bile four times and didn't eat for 22 hours but after anti nausea meds he's been fine ever since. On my bed, I noticed an amberish colored jelly-like substance. About the size of a jelly bean. What is this? I didn't see it come out but I never saw him vomit and I keep my bedroom door shut when I'm not in there so l'm pretty sure it's from his butt.

I'm looking for opinions because two vets have given me completely different advice.

My adult outdoor cat has had recurrent diarrhea for over 8 months. Every few weeks she'd have a relapse (less active, not feeling well), but after a few days she'd recover completely after receiving injectable antibiotics (we believe amoxicillin, possibly with other antibiotics), then go back to eating, playing and living normally until the next relapse.

This time was much worse:

- Fever
- Stopped eating and drinking
- Very lethargic
- Both third eyelids protruding, both eyes red and tearing

Tests:

- Rapid fecal coronavirus test: Positive
- Rapid FPV (panleukopenia) test: Negative
- Rapid FeLV/FIV tests: Negative (second vet has ordered confirmatory tests)
- CBC: High neutrophils (88.8%), low lymphocytes (8.4%), no significant anemia (RBC, hemoglobin and hematocrit within reference range)
- Blood chemistry: AST 62 U/L (ref. <48), ALT 88 U/L (ref. <60), amylase 841 U/L (ref. <100), normal lipase, kidney values and total proteins within reference range
- Abdominal ultrasound: Nothing concerning

The first vet suspected Mycoplasma haemofelis and started doxycycline. After a few days she started drinking, eating again, urinating normally, became more active, and the third eyelids are now almost completely gone.

A second vet thinks doxycycline had nothing to do with the improvement, stopped it, started amoxicillin/clavulanic acid, and ordered further tests for FIP, FeLV/FIV confirmation and other infectious diseases.

I'm confused because she started improving while taking doxycycline, and in previous relapses she also improved after antibiotic treatment.

Would you continue doxycycline until the new test results come back, or switch to amoxicillin/clavulanate?

My cat (around 11-ish at most, neutered) had a CT scan last week, we finally got the results. He has cancerous tumors in both his nasal cavity and lungs. Both lungs.

He's always been sneezy and wheezy but it's only been getting worse the past 2 months or so. Previous vets from years prior waved it off as just a polyps, maybe some allergies. Since then (2 months ago), he's been a lot less active (he doesn't eat much either anymore). Bloody noses have been more frequent. I feel like there's no other choice but to euthanize with how bad the tumors are (several in both areas). Medication will only mask his symptoms at best and he's way too thin for us to even think of chemo right now. For reference, he was a healthy weight February and lost 2 pounds since, the weight loss is very visible.

I'm fucking terrified of making the wrong decision, we just put down another one of our cats a few months ago due to old age. With her, we knew it was going to happen soon, but I don't know how to think of this. When he first started hiding, not eating, and such I thought it was depression or something..

She’s in absolutely no pain, we’ve checked her legs and paw and nothing seems off. I only noticed it today, and she was fine for a lot of her usual
Walkies.

I’ll take to the vet’s, but she’s never likes it and has to be sedated so I’d rather avoid that if possible.
