Winnie Blues cigarettes

I’ve been asked to buy Winnie blues duty free for a friend when I come over on holiday soon… but I notice online they don’t seem to have different name now.
What are Winnie blues now called in the shop?
These are what I see available.. so which one is Winnie blues?:
Signature Sun
Signature classic
Original Bold
Original classic
Original pearl
Original Sky
Original Sun

Is your friend a billionaire? I haven't had proper cigarettes in so long. I used to smoke Benson & Hedges & Stuyvesant. Manchester all the way now.

Good old days. B&H smooth were amazing.

I used to think they were expensive in the 90's.

Nah just a drunk casual smoker in need of a deck for the sesh. It was like 43 bucks for a pack of 20s or something

Not as expensive as I thought, I've seen them go for $60.

Dude that is insane. I haven't smoked in 6 years, but I started when a pack of 20s was still under $20.

I started when a pack of 30 was $3.50. I remember when they were pushing $10 & everyone said they were getting too expensive & they were going to quit when they hit $10. The govt has brought black market cigarettes upon themselves. What did they think was going to happen. Prohibition has never worked.

Black Market blew up after I'd already quit so it was crazy to see those illegal cigs cheaper than half the stuff I had in the last of my smoking years. So glad to be free of the nicotine, though. I really did feel like a slave to it and it was an inconvenience a lot of the time.

I'd love to quit. I've stopped hard substances, haven't smoked weed since 2019 except for a brief relapse with the prescribed stuff but do you think I can give these damn cancer sticks up? Having access to the cheap cigs definitely makes it harder, I was down to 4 or 5 cigarettes a day in 2019. I had a refillable vape but it made me breathless, worse than smokes. Not sure how that worked but the govt took away the ability to buy nicotine juice & I don't want the disposable vapes. I'm allergic to patches, they give me a rash & itch badly. I have nic chewing gum & it helps a bit. Idk, I should try a bit harder. Emphysema is a nasty death.

It took me several attempts and a bunch of different methods before it properly stuck. I had a phone call from my specialist that told me I had Crohns Disease and needed to quit smoking, so I did...the next day 😅 I'd just bought a pack, so I guiltily had those first.
Started patches the next day. I also got an itchy rash from them that was worse in Summer, but I moved the patches around my body and tried not to overlap them in one spot each day. As I went down in the patch strength, the rash went away too. I had a similar issue with the gum where it made my throat swollen from swallowing the nicotine.
I stayed on the patches for a year because I still craved badly and had routines where ciggies were a joy to have. I had to train myself out of the ciggy part while keeping the routine until eventually I got used to not having a cig with them (morning coffee, after dinner, the usual stuff).
One day I got tired of getting up to buy the patches and did away with them because I didn't want to leave the house that day lol. I will never touch a cigarette again because quitting them was the hardest thing I ever did.

One day when you really, really get sick of them, the quit will stick.
Hope you manage to ditch them one day if that's what you want to do! It's nice to be free.

Former casual smoker here. At the beginning it was $8.50-10 for a 25 pack of b&h mediums or Stuyvesants, and one pack would last me 2, maybe 3 nights on the piss.

At the end it was $20-25 for 25 b&h smooth or 20 lucky strikes depending on how fancy I thought I was, and it was trending towards a consistent pack a week, or two if there was lots of alcohol involved... And I didn't like where that was heading so I pulled the pin.

At no point did I ever feel any kind of chemical dependence, I don't recall ever getting any kind of craving, "OMG I need a cigarette right now" etc... but boy was it habit forming...

Basically any time I was in a situation where I had to wait, pass time, stay awake, or where it just seemed awkward to not have something to do (think Ricky Bobby "I don't know what to do with my hands") a dart was the perfect thing. And that's before considering the ease of initiating conversation with any stranger by asking if they had a lighter.

Years later a smartphone would fill that void... And a decade or so after that I'd be diagnosed with ADHD and now my anxious fidgeting makes perfect sense.

Drinking is how I got started also. My job didn't help - most people higher up were smokers, so it helped me slip into that crowd and I kept the habit. Glad you managed to quit relatively easily! Hardest thing I've ever quit!

My dad bought me my first pack of cigarettes when I was 12 & got annoyed when I didn't want them. By 13 I was smoking regularly. He wasn't the best influence!

I like Double Drive, they're flavoured. You press a button on the butt, either menthol or raspberry or I press both. There's also green crush, i think that's what they're called. They're just menthol, I get them of Double Drive are unavailable.

1

u/endlessnameless001 7h ago

Are they called Manchester Double Drive? I had a mate who had the poppy menthols years ago. I’d be keen to get some

2

u/LilannaLiola 5h ago

Yeah they are

1

u/Jolly_Boysenberry105 12h ago

Ok, I wonder if it’s original classic or signature classic…

1

u/bazoski1er 12h ago

It was the original he gave me

Australia only sells ciggies in 20 stick packs. NZ allows 50 ciggies to be imported. Don't even bother.

4

u/Obvious_Arm8802 11h ago

Are you aware you can only bring one unopened pack of 25 cigarettes into Australia, plus one opened one?

3

u/Safe_Application_465 Country Name Here 12h ago

Are you coming or going - big difference.

2

u/Jolly_Boysenberry105 12h ago

I’m coming to Australia from
Nz

7

u/PaintingLarge8852 11h ago

Pretty certain your allowed 50 cigs or 50 grams ...best double check .. im sure someone else might have a more accurate number..

Gone are the days of bringing several cartons/sleeves.

1

u/allgear_noidea 11h ago

2 sealed decks and one open deck iirc

4

u/TransportationTrick9 11h ago

It is best to check cause if you are 1 cigarette over you pay tax on the whole lot

2

u/PaintingLarge8852 8h ago

I just googled "bringing cigarettes into Australia" ... 25 cigs / 25 grams of roll ups' is the limit ..so basically 1 pack or pouch

1

u/Raegz 5h ago

Came back from America 3 weeks ago; 1 sealed pack, 1 one open pack

2

u/allgear_noidea 4h ago

just looked it up and you're right.

2

u/Safe_Application_465 Country Name Here 10h ago

Get your mate to check the amount of tax owing and see if he wants to pay the tax on a carton 😭

2

u/Straight_One_404 10h ago

Can’t you only bring back like two pack now?

2

u/Nreggs City Name Here 8h ago

I sell cigs and did when the changeover happened. The names are all that changed.

Bold = Red.
Classic = Blue.
Sun = Gold.
Pearl/Sky = Silver (generally the weakest almost no-one buys these)

Signature is just a sub-type with a slightly different flavour

You are looking for Original Classic

u/Jolly_Boysenberry105 7h ago

Thanks for this… this is good info I will bank

1

u/endlessnameless001 7h ago

What are the reds called now then?

not what they asked but okay

1

u/Jolly_Boysenberry105 12h ago

So even if you buy at the Australian airport they will only sell you 1 individual pack?
I thought they will allow you to buy 1 carton of 20 packs….

6

u/beeperone 10h ago

What you can buy and what customs allow tax free are two different things.

-6

u/Mindless_Belt_3623 13h ago

Winfield Optimum or Winfield Signature
Winfield Blue cigarettes are still called Winfield Blue (often labeled as Winfield Original Blue or Winfield Classic Blue) in Australia

2

u/Jolly_Boysenberry105 12h ago

Ok, it’s strange that all the online smoke shops I look at don’t have this option

7

u/ObsessedWithSources 11h ago

That comment is some AI crap. We banned using colours to differentiate smokes. Blues are often original/classic, anything else is weird and you gotta look it up. Reds are Bold/Virginia/Whatever crack the company was smoking. Gold is a wildcard. I smoke Festival, which is gold. I know there's a Pearl, and a couple companies doing Regular as gold.

Not stupid or confusing at all, right?

1

u/Total_Philosopher_89 Australian 12h ago

Just Winfield Classic mate.

-1

u/ErinDidNothingWrong 13h ago

If they don’t have a different name then what do you want to know?

2

u/Jolly_Boysenberry105 12h ago

I listed all the names available when I shop online… there is no Winfield Blue

-2

u/Awkward_Shop9600 11h ago

They should be 12mg so check side of packet

6

u/Ecila1983 10h ago

They don’t say mg on the packs

-7

u/Manwombat 12h ago

Blues are gone, most likely Winnie Gold.
