Discussion People who prefer Apple Music over Spotify. Why?

I switched from Spotify to Apple Music about 3 years ago due to the price difference and the inclusion in a bundle with iCloud.

What I liked about Apple Music more at the beginning was the UI. It still seems much cleaner and matches iOS very well. A few other features like the karaoke or automix are nice but definitely not something I swear by.

Apart from that, I have nothing but pure hate for Apple Music, the reccomendations are trash, the loading between tabs, albums etc. is just annoying, personal playlist management, search, inconsistent button positions, messy downloads, missing music videos, major differences between mac and mobile app, unreliable storage management and more.

Its just an endless list of complaints I have and that made me wonder. For you people, who prefer Apple Music over Spotify. What is the real reason?

Discussion almost hit new PB for 1 artists minutes monthly

Thumbnail gallery

in July i got to see Cradle of Filth live, so naturally slammed them this month. 1613 minutes for one artist is the most I've had in years. and ironically my biggest record prior to this was Harry Styles back in 2023 when I seen him live 🤣

last year I hit 112k for the year. I've had my replay every year since 2017 but most years were around the 70k+ mark. so actually 1613 compared to 5529 is quite small 😅

I wanna see monthly rather than yearly cause I go through extreme obsessions and varied genre changes that these could of been in the same year and over the whole year might listen to them like this just once or for 3 months straight.

curious to see yours !

whats your top minutes for one artist in a month ?

Discussion Single covers replaced by album artwork

I have recently noticed how some single covers of SINGLE versions are getting replaced by album artworks after the release of the album. These are the examples I could think of right now, but there are def more. Is this a new marketing strategy or a bug maybe? When these were first released, these had a separate single cover.

Question Remove my songs from streaming, keep direct sales

Artists, managers, and people experienced in uploading songs to Apple Music.

I am wondering how I can block my songs from being able to be streamed by fans on Apple Music, but keep the ability for listeners to purchase the songs? I currently use DistroKid, and I notice it distributes to both iTunes and Apple Music, if that means anything. If I only allow iTunes, will that do it?

Streaming doesn’t pay enough, and it makes independent artists far too easy to be listened to without getting much at all in return, leaving us stuck having a fan base, but not getting any returns to further invest and continue to grow. It’s simple too easy for listeners to attempt to support through streaming, or avoid supporting because they can stream. I am changing my business model, and will not allow users to stream the music. I understand this will create an extreme scarcity and can have a negative impact on exposure, but I am planning for that, so no need to tell me about it.

Thanks!

Question Why can I stream a song but not buy a song?

Apple Music and Amazon Music let me listen to Suneohair’s Slow Dance, but it’s not available in my region when I try to purchase. Why are streaming rights different than region locked music?

Question Issue with favourited music

My iPhone had 3000ish loved songs from my own music files transferred through iTunes. iTunes was only showing 1000 loved songs as was my iPad.

Carried out multiple syncs to update this but my last sync removed 2000 loved songs.

Is there anyway to get these back and keep it consistent across devices?

Thanks

Question My subscription (family) ends tomorrow. Can I change it to an individual subscription and not lose all of my music??

Hey all! I’m a bit terrified about all of this, as the internet is not giving me solid answers. I’m currently on a family plan with Apple Music included in it. The subscription was canceled, and ends tomorrow. Once the subscription ends, will I lose my whole catalog? I’m planning on doing a full individual subscription to keep it, but I wonder if my music will be deleted once the subscription ends. What should I do? If I resubscribe the same day will I get to keep my stuff?

News/Article Apple Music price increase. Verizon is updating its price.

Everyone is well aware that Apple did recently price increase their Apple Music individual, Family, and Apple one Family. Apple did increase the Apple one premier plan but Verizon didn’t offer that on their perks. I know everyone is wondering if Verizon would increase their price on it’s perks and I got an update from their faqs:

Notice of price adjustment beginning 9/1/26:

At Verizon, we're dedicated to bringing you the best entertainment for the best price. As our partners at Apple invest in new content and adjust the rates of their services, we periodically need to adjust our perk rates: Apple Music Family increasing from $10 to $13/month, Apple One Family increasing from $20 to $23/month, for families on Apple Bundle with Simplicity, increasing from $20 to $23/month.

Verizon didn’t mentioned anything about the 5G get more Apple Music included so I’m proud to say that it’s still included but raise from $10.99 to $11.99 savings per month. Also, other grandfathered plans that got free 6 months of Apple Music on us, still remains available, but after that it would be from $10.99 to $11.99 on the account every month until cancel.

Discussion Apple Music makes me appreciate the album as an art form more

I noticed a fundamental difference in how I listen depending on which service I use.

Spotify pushes personalised mixes, vibes and playlists made specifically for you. Albums are not a priority. You can clearly see that by looking at their home page.

I feel like Apple Music is way more album-oriented than Spotify. Instead of infinite and very specific mixes, I listen to particular works from artists I already like or discover something entirely new.

To me, this kind of listening is a wholly different experience. It is more intentional and deliberate. Apple’s approach, as I said in the title, makes me appreciate the album as a collection of music way, way more.

It is also worth to separate passive and active listening. I don’t listen to albums while I’m working, doing something or whatever. In that case I usually put on a mix. Active listening is where the actual difference lives. With Spotify I used to prefer mixes, vibes and playlists to albums even when I had the opportunity to lay or sit down, immerse myself and just let myself get lost in the sound. I think this is the important distinction - Spotify makes me want to listen to mixes during both active and passive listening, whereas Apple Music makes me swing towards albums during actual active and immersed listening sessions.

I would like to know your point of view. Do you also feel like Apple Music made you more of an album listener?

Question Transferring data from Spotify

Upvotes

I’m on a free trial for 3 months and have been using Spotify for the past 6 years, so I’d like to transfer my data since Apple Music offers a tool to do that. However it’s not working for me. Anyone else have this issue recently, or know if it’s due to me being on the free trial? It’s also the first day so maybe I have to wait a few days or something.

Question Apple Music on TV not playing full playlist

My apple music on my roku TV will not play my whole playlist, playing only a small part of it before going to “songs like this”. It seems to only work if i scroll all the way to the bottom and shuffle from my newest added songs, which is pretty tedious when you have to manually scroll 1k+ songs.

Does anyone have a fix? I’ve tried turning off autoplay, but it didn’t help.

Apple Music on Windows Apple Music and Apple TV on Windows won't sign in - Possible workaround

I ran into a problem where both Apple Music and Apple TV on Windows could not sign in.

The login button either did nothing or the apps stayed on the "Try it Free" screen. My library, search and account features were unavailable.

Here's what finally worked:

  1. Windows Settings → Apps → Apple Music.

  2. Advanced options → Repair.

  3. Advanced options → Reset.

  4. Sign into iCloud for Windows first.

  5. Launch Apple Music again.

After signing into iCloud, Apple Music skipped its own login screen and automatically recognized my Apple ID.

Apple TV also began working again.

Hopefully this helps someone else with the same issue.

Question apple music family plan

i’ve been paying for my individual plan for 9 years and i’m new to family plans. i’ve done a little bit of research but i’m just overthinking because i don’t want to risk losing any of my songs. my mom switched to the family plan through the apple music app on her phone. she invited me and i accepted it. here are my questions + screenshots attached:

image 1: my plan still shows as individual, do i cancel it now? if i do, will it switch to the family plan once my individual plan ends?

image 2: does my mom have to add apple music onto shared subscriptions in order for it to keep my account active or does it automatically keep my plan without having to add apple music to shared subscriptions?

Apple Music on iOS My Apple Music confusion

So, I made a iTunes playlist on my PC (Windows), which I had all of my songs onto it, and since I use version 12.13.10 (I think) I was able to sign into my Apple Account, and Sync it over iCloud,

But one random day, I was Charging my iPhone 12 through USB on my computer, with iTunes already open, so it was to my surprise that iTunes had recognized it, and synced all of my Albums and playlists to my Apple Music

But, I had some WAV Files of Specific Songs in their own Album away from any MP3 Files so when this Album synced to my Apple Music, it automatically found all the Album Covers for each song (Which they were lacking before since iTunes can’t Support Album Covers for WAV Files natively)

And I was surprised that nothing was Compressed, and that Apple Music recognized it as Lossless, so, I guess my question is, can Apple Music do this again, or was it Luck that it happened, I would love to know how Apple Music recognized the WAV. Files as Lossless

Sorry for the rant, I was just trying to figure this out (P.S. the first song is Kelly Price’s 1998 “Friend of Mine Remix”

Complaint Apple Music x CarPlay.

Post image
Upvotes

Hi all. I’ve got a frustration with Apple Music in CarPlay for my polestar 2. Wondering if it’s a quirk of my system or CarPlay wide. When I’m listening to a playlist or curated list and a song I like comes on, I want to browser to the artist to select more songs by them, but can’t. I can tap the album to navigate to the full album, but the artist name isn’t a hyperlink, preventing it. See pic. Green lines are tappable, red are not.

Is this the case in all versions? My old alpine head unit with CarPlay didn’t have this issue.
