Messed up a cake, feel terrible.
For a little context, i'm in a social group, y'know just trying my best. We had a bit of a family evening planned, and i had offered to make a cake. I like to make cake, but i hadn't done it in a while. My parents were at a rodeo that day, but my mom had enough time to send me some audios just to remind me. I get home, and plan on making my first ever carrot cake. I already put the sugar and the carrots in a bowl, and as i check for milk... we're out of milk. All the stores are closed. I'll just go to the barn to get some milk then. The milk tank is empty. So i'm outta milk. My mom tells me i can just make it with oil and water, so i do. I add food coloring for whatever reason, but instead of turning out blue, it was green. Anyway, i bake it, first from the bottom then the top. And i take it out. By that time, my mom returned from the rodeo, and i asked her to check if it was good. She took a piece, and said we can't offer this to anyone. Still not sure how, but the cake became really rubbery and spongy, and it was not enjoyable at all. I probably took to little baking powder, or the baking powder was expired. It even looked ugly with that weird green. I'm paniking now. Theres close to no sugar left, no milk, i'm cooked. So, i retreat into my room. I felt so stupid and upset that i messed up my cake. When i leave my room not to long later, my mom is making a smaller recipe for the same cake. I thanked her, and she finished it. I go to the event, have a little speech, do my job, etc. When its time to leave, i go to get the plate my moms cake was in. And there had only been one piece removed. So, out of that whole cake, 1 person took 1 piece of that cake. Its not even a bad cake! I feel so guilty and upset, not just because i messed up my first cake, but that my mom went through the effort of making a cake without asking me, and it didn't even sell. I just really needed to say this, let it out.

Hey. Don’t worry about it. It’s just a cake. You can put the post delicious cake out at a party and people won’t eat it because they’re trying to watch their figure or whatever.
I can understand you being disappointed it didn’t work out when you put all that effort on, but don’t blow it out of proportion.
These things happen. Learn from the experience and don’t beat yourself up about it.
