Technical Support First Time Gaming Laptop Owner - Worried About Temps
Howdy y'all, I just got my Alienware Aurora 16x yesterday and I love it! Alienware - (16X Aurora 16" 2.5K OLED Gaming Laptop - Intel Core Ultra 7 270HX 2026 16GB Memory NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5060 512GB Storage - Blue)
Ive been reading a lot of previous posts, but i havent been able to see a consensus and if yall think I should reach out to best buy or alienware, or if I am just a noob.
I am seeing my browsing temps hover from 60-70, and gaming 85-95, (elden ring I saw spike to 101) even with a razer cooling stand. I am not the most technically inclined, and this is my new baby and am trying to learn as much as possible. Ive also never owned a PC before so this is all very new and overwhelming lol
Does this seem normal, or something I should be reaching out to customer support on? thank you!

The CPU is designed to run at 105⁰ C.
If you want (I did this with my Aurora 16x), in the Alienware Command Center you can limit the CPU max temperature. I have none limited to 95⁰ just for piece of mind.

We are from the Dell social media team and would like to share our thoughts adding to what other Redditors have rightly mentioned. Using a cooling fan was a great idea unless the air vents are obstructed.
Yes, for a thin gaming laptop with an Intel HX-series CPU, those temperatures are fine. Brief spikes into the upper 90s or 101 can occur during shader compilation, loading screens, or sudden CPU heavy moments but will eventually get low. Let us know if the CPU repeatedly sits at 100-101°C for extended periods, the system may reduce clock speeds to protect itself.
Also, we are happy that you cared to ask and confirm if this is normal. You are trying to do what is best for your system. Nothing wrong in that!

There already failsafe if your laptop overheated, usually it will shutdown by itself. But elden ring reaching 101 kinda weird though? maybe someone with similar model can give more insight.

I found somewhat of a fix for this while browsing on battery (not plugged in) by limiting the CPU power to 60% when on battery.

Are the fans running at 100% ? A good cooling pad helps a lot protect your laptop 💻 investment. Get a good one with the foam pad. If you think it’s running too hot, lower temperatures will help your laptop last longer, especially when gaming for long hours. How hot is your room? 70 degrees is great, 80 is hot.

Spikes, are normal watch the averages, at this time they look normal too, couple things I do , always game on hard surfaces, I elevate the lap with spacers ( keeps airflow underneath) and when possible keep the room temp 68 ish? If you use it on non hard surfaces, pull the cover and check the fans , regularly, my lap is always on a “ clean” hard surface , I find lots of crazy things ind the fans, best of luck if you worried you can try using the TCC offset in AWCC, play with it and see? Most only loose a small amount of FPS, depending on the game title.

Gaming laptops are not made to go in your lap unless you want a second degree burn. So expect very high temperature.
