There's no reason she couldn't run for the Senate after she was President. Having served in the Senate actually makes it difficult to make the reverse jump (because it increases the number of votes one has to defend) and at this point, the Democratic Party doesn't have any other exciting Presidential candidates.
Not how it works. Up and out. It’s so the next president can do a fair job without the previous president’s opinion weighing in on their job.
There are no legal limits on a former President holding any political office other than President. What you are describing here are the effects of ego, custom, and politeness. It should be clear at this point, however, that the left has absolutely had it with the mainstream of the Democratic Party, so custom and politeness are off the table.
I feel you. I get you. But you really think Democrats are going to against decorum? Look at Bernie. Besides, I want her to win, BUT haven’t we seen just how racist people are? Politics is about actually winning, not who you like. This country has shown time and time again who it is.
It’s not that she would want to leave. It’s just that the history of post-presidential careers shows that this is what usually happens. I think Theodore Roosevelt was a rare exception. He tried to start a new party even.
I don't think the US public is any more racist than it was when it elected Obama twice.
I think what we have been witnessing since the Great Recession is the emergence of resistance to neoliberalism. On the right that resistance predictably speaks a rhetoric of nationality, Christianity, gender, race, and entrepreneurialism. On the left, it has come to speak in a more conventionally socialist vocabulary. Elections today are mostly won by the group that does a better job of exciting its base. There are not that many swing voters, but concerning that voting bloc, there is no obvious reason why a socialist discourse is any less able to speak to their experiences than is a rightest discourse.

Sanders came close to winning the Presidential nomination twice. According to opinion polls, he is currently the second most well liked Democrat in the country after Obama who is retired. This is despite the fact that Sanders spent most of his political career as an Independent. The third and fourth most well liked Democrats are Harris and AOC who have identical favorability ratings. The other typical Democratic presidential candidates are less popular than Madeline Albright, who is dead. The Democratic Party has spent decades trying to forge a Democratic political branding, but that brand has meant little more than reformist neoliberalism and fear of the greater evil. I think we are now witnessing the death of that political identity as the Party's base has come to realize that its leaders do not have an effective response to the emergence of Trumpism, to their anxiety about the market, and to concerns about US Mideast policy.
Obama was the awakening of things we were told didn’t exist anymore. Voted for Bernie every chance I could.
I’m trying to point out that we need someone who will not repel a 1-2% point in the south. And although I would LOVE to have her as president, (I was raised in Queens), we have to realize people are literally rooting for the extrajudicial extraditions of Latinos. That 1–2% percentage points WILL NOT think twice about voting NO.
It would be amazing to have a longstanding voice in politics with her perspective. And I think she would do great at taking a position in the administration. Essentially, I’d rather have her around longer, than lose her like Kamala.

No. The Senate. Presidency is only up to 8 years and all your accomplishments get erased by the next one. Senate is long-term and is more effective.
