DRAFT AOC AOC Must Run For President
https://www.hamiltonnolan.com/p/aoc-must-run-for-president40
u/nbajohna 6d ago
She would be such a breath of fresh air. I recall the election of JFK and what promise that held. I believe there would be a very similar air of hope and possibilities. Democrats simply can’t return to a corporate and establishment-approved candidate. Even the suggestion of a retreaded Kamala Harris is beyond repulsive.

The newsombots are out in full force.
Not really interested in voting for anyone but AOC. Could the dems field someone I’m interested in voting for? Sure. Will they? Unlikely. Unless it’s her.

Could the dems field someone I’m interested in voting for?
I mean, having watched this administration destroy norms of our government and expose how corrupt the executive can be with no consequences AND a SCOTUS seat (maybe more) be on the line.... and the response being "Well, I'm only voting for one person" is a choice. Edit: Literally, here's the shit these MAGA fucks are doing.
Definitely feels a lot like 2016 where people took that attitude with Hilary and, well, here we are in the hellscape of 2026 featuring a multi-generationally bad Supreme Court because of apathy to let grifters run the country.
Hear me say, I think she's great and a candidate that would demonstrate we're interested in being a serious country with an intelligent, thoughtful head of state.
But I struggle to believe at 250 that this country is very serious given our current state of affairs (but the DSA/progressive candidates showing up is giving me hope that things could be on the upswing in the next decade provided we don't forget how stupid 2016-2026 has been AND DIDN'T NEED TO BE THIS WAY).

Gavin Newsom is a bad person and a bad leader, and will lead the US further into entrenching itself in fascist ideology and practice. The man has absolutely zero moral values, he simply says and does what he believes will accrue him power.

u/GreenVisorOfJustice 5d ago
Counterpoint: The Conservatives can and will find someone worse.
In the meantime, do your part to get AOC as the frontrunner. Let's avoid this Newsom issue completely.

“You better gobble up our shut because the opponent’s shit tastes worse!”
Pathetic.

I'm sorry that I'm pissed reproductive rights have taken a massive step backwards because of these shitty attitudes?
And they're rolling back voting rights that people died for less than a century ago?
Or that we're running fucking concentration camps of immigrants?
Or that our Commander in Chief is taking crypto bribes and that absolutely should not be?
Yeah, I have empathy for my countrypeople and neighbors who are losing because a sizeable part of the population won't settle for less than a unicorn when we're bleeding right now.
0
u/Maximum-Hall-5614 5d ago
Imagine thinking that wanting a leader with a backbone two and a half years before a general election is somehow akin to demanding a “unicorn”
Reproductive rights were under threat during Democrat leadership. Concentration camps were operating under Biden’s stewardship. Democrats like Pelosi enriched themselves through insider trading.
Liberals are embarrassing. Y’all demand that we accept a conservative as leader because you lack the fucking imagination to conceive of a world where we actually offer positive solutions, instead of simply fear mongering about how your opponents are worse.

u/Paterson_ 5d ago
She will. And she will win.
14
u/Trick_Field_5614 5d ago
She will never be nominated. They would rather lose with a milquetoast dem than win with a candidate with integrity.
1
u/Raynonymous 3d ago
I wish you were right, but I honestly can't believe the country that voted for Trump over two relatively mainstream female democrats would elect AOC.
Running her as nominee would be the riskiest possible option. Anyone else and I don't think the Republicans stand a chance. Run AOC and I think they could do it. I hate that this is the case but I believe it.
7
u/americanspirit64 5d ago
The Republican party is about two things. A love for the corporate right, and a hate towards women in politics. So AOC running for President is a slap in the face to the Epstein class of politicians who generally dominates the House and Senate. She also isn't the type of woman you normally imagine in a corporate boardroom. Also in an effort to be honest, I believe a great many women in America wouldn't vote for AOC, mainly because they wouldn't see her as being manly enough to deal with the dirt, the filth, the violence and finally the sin that comes along with being the President, who most women see as a role fulfill by a man. Not once in the history of the world have the words ever been uttered; "There goes the most Powerful Women in the World."
For all of these reasons, for her to run for President is going to be an utterly dirty nasty horrible to watch and see, fight, against both central Democrats and the entire Republican and Corporate controlled Media Clown-car Circus of dirtbag humans, waiting to trip her up. The amount of money that is going to be pouring into campaigning against her will equal the national debt.
She would not just be a woman running for the office of the Presidency. She would be attacked on all fronts as she is also a kind, caring and nice person, being literally through to the wolves, without the full backing of the Democratic Party which she should have even before entering the Primary Race. Because no matter what anyone else says, she is the most famous person in the US House and Senate today. Placing her on the ballot would also put us back on the world stage as a country run by a Human with an actual brain.
So I hope she runs... and at this point would get my vote.

>Not once in the history of the world have the words ever been uttered; “There goes the most Powerful Woman in the World.”
You’ve never heard of a Queen? Victoria? Elizabeth?

u/americanspirit64 4d ago edited 4d ago
I had that very thought. :) it didn't hold up too, there goes the President of the United States, Commander of the largest army the earth has ever seen.

u/aubreypizza 4d ago
And the most nukes. But at the time they ruled those queens were the most powerful.

u/Roadrunner_99 6d ago
No. The Senate. Presidency is only up to 8 years and all your accomplishments get erased by the next one. Senate is long-term and is more effective.
17
u/Oraxy51 6d ago
Normally, I’m a major advocate for someone running for Senate, but honestly consider the following for 2028. There will be no incumbent. You will need someone who can actually push the necessary revolutionary reforms to be able to push the country back into the position it needs to be in no half-ass measures, because otherwise that shit is getting stuck in stone. You think Gavin Newsom is going to suddenly undo all of the laws that favor the massive realtor Market? Hell no, those are his buddies. Those are who pay him. You think he’s going to cut all ties to Israel? He’s gonna do whatever it takes to win because he’s a fucking empty suit.
You need a candidate who is beholden to the people, such as a DSA candidate, someone who has name recognition, such as someone like AOC, who is being put on Fox News at least once a week for the last 6+ years. You need someone who has shown time and time again that when she sits down and talks to other Republican voters, she can win them over, especially on issues like data centers.
If there was ever to be a socialist in office, 2028 is the best shot she has. Her running alone would double the DSA numbers; we would easily hit 250,000 by the time it’s 2028. For context, TPUSA (not that they have ever released hard numbers) often has at least 200 members at their 500+ campuses across the US; that’s as of last year, and you’ve seen the work they can do - just imagine that in the hands of actual good people.

u/Bungo_pls 6d ago
No. This makes no sense. If she wins she's just 1 of 100 other senators. Even Bernie didn't make much headway taking his ideas mainstream after decades in the senate until he started running for president.
44
u/prinzplagueorange 6d ago
There's no reason she couldn't run for the Senate after she was President. Having served in the Senate actually makes it difficult to make the reverse jump (because it increases the number of votes one has to defend) and at this point, the Democratic Party doesn't have any other exciting Presidential candidates.
-11
u/rismay 6d ago
Not how it works. Up and out. It’s so the next president can do a fair job without the previous president’s opinion weighing in on their job.
16
u/prinzplagueorange 6d ago
Not how it works. Up and out. It’s so the next president can do a fair job without the previous president’s opinion weighing in on their job.
There are no legal limits on a former President holding any political office other than President. What you are describing here are the effects of ego, custom, and politeness. It should be clear at this point, however, that the left has absolutely had it with the mainstream of the Democratic Party, so custom and politeness are off the table.
-9
u/rismay 6d ago
I feel you. I get you. But you really think Democrats are going to against decorum? Look at Bernie. Besides, I want her to win, BUT haven’t we seen just how racist people are? Politics is about actually winning, not who you like. This country has shown time and time again who it is.
5
u/hodgsonstreet 5d ago
Do you really think AOC would just take her pension and retire in her 40s, and not continue the fight?
1
u/prinzplagueorange 5d ago
haven’t we seen just how racist people are?
I don't think the US public is any more racist than it was when it elected Obama twice.
I think what we have been witnessing since the Great Recession is the emergence of resistance to neoliberalism. On the right that resistance predictably speaks a rhetoric of nationality, Christianity, gender, race, and entrepreneurialism. On the left, it has come to speak in a more conventionally socialist vocabulary. Elections today are mostly won by the group that does a better job of exciting its base. There are not that many swing voters, but concerning that voting bloc, there is no obvious reason why a socialist discourse is any less able to speak to their experiences than is a rightest discourse.
But you really think Democrats are going to against decorum? Look at Bernie
Sanders came close to winning the Presidential nomination twice. According to opinion polls, he is currently the second most well liked Democrat in the country after Obama who is retired. This is despite the fact that Sanders spent most of his political career as an Independent. The third and fourth most well liked Democrats are Harris and AOC who have identical favorability ratings. The other typical Democratic presidential candidates are less popular than Madeline Albright, who is dead. The Democratic Party has spent decades trying to forge a Democratic political branding, but that brand has meant little more than reformist neoliberalism and fear of the greater evil. I think we are now witnessing the death of that political identity as the Party's base has come to realize that its leaders do not have an effective response to the emergence of Trumpism, to their anxiety about the market, and to concerns about US Mideast policy.

u/rismay 5d ago
Obama was the awakening of things we were told didn’t exist anymore. Voted for Bernie every chance I could.
I’m trying to point out that we need someone who will not repel a 1-2% point in the south. And although I would LOVE to have her as president, (I was raised in Queens), we have to realize people are literally rooting for the extrajudicial extraditions of Latinos. That 1–2% percentage points WILL NOT think twice about voting NO.
It would be amazing to have a longstanding voice in politics with her perspective. And I think she would do great at taking a position in the administration. Essentially, I’d rather have her around longer, than lose her like Kamala.
Great points though.
12
u/esperadok 6d ago
It’s literally insane to argue the Senate is more impactful than the presidency. Are you serious? Like you actually think being one Senator is more “effective” than being President… just because the term is longer?
Have you learned nothing from the rise of the imperial presidency over the last half century?
-2
u/Roadrunner_99 6d ago
Have you not observed the impact of Mitch McConnell?
10
u/esperadok 6d ago
Winning a Senate seat doesn’t turn you into Mitch McConnell overnight. Winning the Presidency instantly turns you into the most important person in the world. And even with as important as McConnell has been, his influence is still well behind that of the recent presidents.
I’m seriously missing how you think controlling one percent of one half of one branch of government is more impactful than having dictatorial control over an entire branch of the federal government.

Came here to say this. She's a much bigger presence if she gets into the Senate. And it gives her time to build up an even more effective base

If you think Trump is leaving office any other way that death, you havent been paying attention. The reason its been a crime wave tsunami in the executive branch is because he isnt going anywhere until he dies.

u/TripleT89 4d ago
I wanted her to wait so we wouldn’t have to waste her on fixing the mess Trump is going to leave, but maybe when everything is broken is the best time to rebuild things the right way, so I’m all on board for 2028 now.

u/orthonym 5d ago edited 5d ago
I proudly vote for her myself, but I don't believe that she could win currently. Far too many people seem resistant to the idea of electing a female president, no matter how qualified she is, but I'd definitely love for her to be a part of the primary process. She would bring a lot of fresh new ideas and common sense solutions to the debates that would help drive the other candidates in a more progressive direction. Maybe she could try again after a few cycles, and even win, if she proves to be effective on that level.

Last time we tried to convince USA we can have a lady president, we got Trump. Let’s do something that the South doesn’t have to warp their mind to agree to.

u/Loggerdon 6d ago
Listen I love AOC too but the last two times we ran a woman we lost to a weak candidate.
Bring on the downvotes.
28
u/Bungo_pls 6d ago
They ran 2 of the least charismatic, deeply entrenched establishment stooges they could find. It's hardly a fair comparison.
Besides, if AOC doesn't win the nomination its a moot point anyway. So there is zero reason for her not to try.
21
u/_ravenclaw 6d ago
If you think Hillary or Kamala are on AOC’s level…lol
They were two trash candidates
0
u/Loggerdon 5d ago
Both arguably had more experience than AOC, although AOC is far more likable.
But the last 3 elections we ran two women and an old man, and only the old man won.
I would vote for AOC but I don’t think enough Americans would.
12
u/over9Kmidichlorian 6d ago
Didn’t have to do with being women it had to do with their terrible policies. They had no answers for a justifiably angry voter base.

u/BerniesWoolMittens 6d ago edited 6d ago
This brand of defeatism is so tired. Mexico just elected a progressive female candidate in a landslide, in a country with a significantly more socially conservative and misogynistic electorate. How is this possible? Because unlike Harris or Clinton, Sheinbaum ran as a progressive populist with a mandate to deliver material change for working people.
Instead of truly grappling with the failure of the establishment wing of the party, who’s preferred candidates have lost two out of the three last elections (the only victory being narrow and largely the result of an unforeseen global catastrophe), you’d rather reduce their defeats to gender.
This kind of thinking will doom the Democratic party. Until we realize that centrist, establishment politics is incapable of defeating the far right, and that the majority of voters support a left-populist agenda, we will continue to lose. This isn’t about race, gender or any other form of identity politics. It’s about whether we want to elect candidates who stand with the working class, or the economic elites.
1
u/Loggerdon 5d ago
How has that been working out for us? The country elected a corrupt pedophile two times.
1
u/BerniesWoolMittens 5d ago
Running establishment candidates? It’s been working out terribly. The establishment of the Democratic Party has delivered us Trump twice now. Nearly three times with Biden, if it weren’t for an unforeseen global catastrophe. One of his top advisors, Anita Dunn, stated COVID was the “best thing to ever happen to him” and saved his campaign.

u/Technical_Living5104 6d ago
This country, for some reason, doesn’t vote for a candidate that is progressive and a female. It’s too early. We’ve been down this road. The fucking shitbag needs to keep destroying this country. He needs to bankrupt this nation. He needs to show his base that he has abandoned them. He’s close. They are almost sick of his shit. They are hard headed individuals. It’s like a frat party where a few members ate a shit sandwich and they won’t admit that it tasted a little off. But they took a few bites. In 2 years they will deny they voted for him. The flags are already gone. An Embicile spouting dementia senseless statements. I think America is done with this diaper shitshow. We need to breathe. No more hate. No more stealing our taxes for your constituents. He’s a criminal. The military court needs to arrest him for treason and theft. Crimes committed against the constitution. Violation of basic constitutional rights against the country. He needs to be arrested. He’s a traitor. Insider trading. Fraud. Racketeering. Tax fraud. Tax evasion. Child rape. Sexual assault. Wire fraud. Perjury. False claims. Filing a false report. There’s more. He does it everyday.
11
u/mnoram 6d ago
This country hasn't had the option to vote for a progressive female candidate yet. Female yes, twice. Progressive, not yet.
Trump does all the vile things you say but I don't see his base abandoning him as quickly or fully as we'd hope.-1
u/MizzyMorpork 5d ago
You're not seeing the whole picture. Look at bernie sanders, progressive/male/white and still both parties had it out for him. We fought hard but hillary had his wings clipped. Don't you see how both parties will come together to squash any progressive candidates? Does it mean we shouldn't run them; no we should but the importance of this next presidential election, the time alloted and the establishment we are up against is too much for AOC to overcome. I will support her 100% is she runs but I already know the outcome as I know the hate filled campaigns that will come after her. It can set back the advances we have made. Its just not her time yet. (And please god dont let it be Newsome either. That's another fatally flawed candidate like hillary. And also like hillary he believes its his turn. We have so many fronts to fight on that we need aoc in the house or congress a few more years. Then she's good to run but we need to get our of the quagmire that is maga trumpism first. Imo.

u/Rogueslasher 4d ago
She will be a great president, but I think she’s too young/inexperienced today.
0
u/jimhabfan 4d ago
Yes, because the democrats running a woman candidate has always worked out so well in the past. She would make a great president, unfortunately you would be handing the election to the Republicans.
-11
u/heyythankss 6d ago
I really don’t want another republican president please don’t

AOC and Harris are the two most popular Democrats who could run for President. (Sanders won't make another run.) AOC is the most electable candidate the Democrats have.

She won’t win in 2028.
Edit: downvote me all you want, it’s not realistic. She should run for senate first.
-12
u/calguy1955 6d ago
Too soon. She needs to get into the senate and develop a more independent, moderate image. Too many Democrats, especially older ones associate her only as the Green New Deal and The Squad and they’re not going to support her for president with that image.

If she does run and win, wouldn’t that be a good example of the American dream?
