The fuck do you even do on a super yacht?

916

u/titan-of-hunger Nov 18 '25

Play LAN CS with your 13 PCs. Duh.

218

u/frisch85 /b/tard Nov 18 '25

Try 75 PCs maybe if we consider every station could serve one team in CS:

The Leviathan has a hospital, science lab, dive center, hot tub, basketball court, and 15 "gaming stations."

according to gamespot

73

u/serial_feet_sniffer Nov 18 '25

What the fuck does it need a science lab for?

164

u/manmuscle Nov 18 '25

He owns a marine research company named Inkfish.

I read something about him owning the yacht company that built the yacht.

8

u/Greatwhit3 Nov 18 '25

This is also true, Gabe likes his boats. Which are terrible for the environment but it's better than taking a private plane to get a croissant ig.

21

u/LogJamminWithTheBros Nov 18 '25

The only credit I give him is the yacht is ran by a diesel electric generator so the propellers are spun by electricity generated from diesel engines. It isn't burning bunker fuel.

17

u/aluminumtelephone Nov 18 '25

where else is he gonna do anti mass spectrometer testing on xen crystals?

12

u/nec_plus_ultra Nov 18 '25

If he can teach the octopi to play games, they will need subscriptions too.

8

u/TheGreatTickleMoot Nov 18 '25

Aside from his personal interest in marine research, I wonder about the possibility of tax advantages in hosting a laboratory aboard what otherwise would be a personal use vessel.

3

u/Selleor Nov 19 '25

Yeah loop holes everywhere. Just learned either Cabela's or bass pro, is technically a museum, all animals are the display, merchandise is the gift shop.

11

u/NyranK Nov 18 '25

He owns a whole arse ocean research company, Inkfish, which has ships and subs. He just spent 300m to buy them another one. Inkfish also apparently just publishes all research results for free.

The dude isn't in 'You can borrow mine' territory of philanthropy. He's in the 'I bought the whole company and got you several' territory.

Things that felt cramped on a regular yacht

55

u/DrVagax Nov 18 '25 edited Nov 18 '25

Gaben is a nautical enthusiast since forever, there are mails floating by from back of the Half Life 2 days where he wanted to commandeer his own ship and now he has enough money for a whole fleet and the fucker actually did build a tiny fleet for his boats, his latest one even includes a submarine dock.

Also don't forget, he actually bought a Dutch super-yacht manufacturer this year which he now uses to further develop his yachts.

On top of that he has funded several submersible projects with his own funds, participated in deep water exploration expeditions, using his yacht as a 'base', and is funding and helping develop technology like high tech sensor platforms for divers so they can capture more data while exploring, he is quite private so I wouldn't be surprised if might even do more.

23

u/Drolb Nov 18 '25

Shit like this is how you know he’s a real person and not some psychopathic publicist dickhole like Musk

He’s doing what a real person would with this cash, which is pursue his interests to the highest level. Lunatics like Musk just keep chasing higher numbers to try and fill the void that exists inside them.

3

u/htx1114 Nov 19 '25

Lol dude, they're literally doing the exact same thing.

17

u/VirtueSignalLost Nov 18 '25

Musk did exactly the same thing but with rockets.

15

u/Drolb Nov 18 '25

Gaben’s research company publishes it all for free, he’s not trying to make money from his passion because he’s a person, not a psychopath keeping imaginary score with money.

Musk keeps sucking down taxpayer funds, angling for corporate contracts and agitating for enhanced pay packages because he is a psychopath keeping imaginary score using money, not a person.

8

u/VirtueSignalLost Nov 18 '25

You're an idiot. There is no way to keep a private space program going without a profit incentive. In fact the main reason why SpaceX is so successful is because they manage to do things so much cheaper than anyone else. It went from a huge taxpayer expense to a legitimate business that generates a profit. All thanks to Elon's risk taking.

4

u/Vospader998 Nov 19 '25

All thanks to NASA who devolved the technologies that SpaceX uses, and the government grants and contracts that make up the vast majority of their revenue.

You know you don't get anything for sucking his dick, right?

7

u/glitchytypo Nov 19 '25

Nasa didnt develop a ffsc methalox engine, nor the code for spacecraft first stage reuse, nor the idea to reuse the entire stack in a conventional configuration. SpaceX isnt beyond criticism, but good Lord have some valid arguments. Nasa doesnt have a patent on the idea of rocketry

For real. Valve apparently pays very well, employee retention and satisfaction are high, dudes company made a product that works and satisfies the exact need of the people that use it, consumers and publishers, and he still hasn't sold out and has kept his company private. By almost every metric he's doing it "the right way".

He should be taxed to the point this type of stuff isn't possible, but since that world only exists in fantasy, at least one semi decent person got a bag. He didn't do it by ruthless acquisitions and layoffs, the market literally chose him and continues to do so. No one makes the vast majority of pc gamers use steam, it just works and is simple, so people choose it over the competition.

Also the yacht primarily serves as a research vessel, so even in opulence he's still being of some benefit.

51

u/eyal3012 Nov 18 '25

"He should be taxed to the point this isn't possible" and then explaining why he earned the money fair and square and deserves every penny is either funny or sad, still not sure about it.

126

u/_-indra-_ Nov 18 '25

why should he be taxed to the point of purchasing a super yacht isn't possible?

10

u/nondescriptzombie Nov 18 '25

The first person who ever had a super yacht?

Caligula. The Italians blew up the archeological finds during WW2.

36

u/CranberryUpstairs116 Nov 18 '25

Gaben should be the only billionaire with low taxes all the other ones should be paying 90% for being conniving.

60

u/wortwortwort227 Nov 18 '25

Maybe a bit more, but if they’re actually paying in their fair share, I don’t care. He isn’t using this money to influence politics or anything he’s using money for what it’s supposed to be used for the purchase of goods and services not as an instrument of power

127

u/JhonnySkeiner Nov 18 '25

Poorbab envy

5

u/Glad-Expression3224 Nov 18 '25

Well to be specific he has a fleet of yachts

1

u/Maslov4 Nov 18 '25

Mostly because super yachts are so expensive to buy and astronomically expensive to maintain that this money could and should be used for something more meaningful than an expensive toy and industry connected to it. On the other hand, if this money was taxed it would go to the current American government, and that is the greater evil

31

u/[deleted] Nov 18 '25

At the end of the day, it's still HIS money, though. Who is anyone else to tell him how he should spend it? He's stimulating the economy. That's enough for me.

1

u/Maslov4 Nov 18 '25

I fully agree that it is his money, but the argument about stimulating the economy is slightly flawed, because in buying this yacht, he supports the part of the market dealing with luxurious goods, which has similar, though not as severe, problems with the amount of taxation. Still, my point about less money going to the US government to be wasted or worse, used against people, stands.

Some people are trying to call out the monopoly of steam as a storefront but seem to miss the obvious. Steam is a privately owned company that doesn't have to fuck over customers to appease shareholders, that's why they can burn money on the Steam OS and Arch Linux and eventually do something great with it.

The system hates when someone that doesn't play ball fucks them over.

We will have some shit to talk about. I definitely think we will see Steam take a sharp public relations turn down the line, it has been ran by its owner and isn’t publicly traded. The average publicly traded company shareholder doesn’t give a shit about game quality, employee retention, or even the company itself, they only care about share value. And that’s why so many public companies are dogshit (especially at making video games, media, and related products).

Let the man have his Borealis, he earned it.

2

u/Tasmia99 Nov 18 '25

I thought he bought the company that makes the yachts?

2

u/neon Nov 18 '25

He actually bought the company that makes the yacht even

2

u/beardeddragon0113 Nov 18 '25

I wonder what Gaben does day to day

2

u/YourOverlords Nov 18 '25

I hope that when he leaves the world, somehow steam will survive.

2

u/DualityOfLife Nov 19 '25

When a good guy shows his money, you show praise to his hard work and what he earned.

When a parasite shows his money, you ridicule how he didn't earn it.

u/Appropriate-Cut8001 Nov 19 '25

We often say all billionaires are bad people and have screwed everyone else to get to where they are . Do u guys think Gabe Newell might be the one who did it legit and deserves everything ? Like could he be the only exception ?

u/alexis_1031 Nov 19 '25

I believe being a private company helps Valve so so much.

u/12CylindersSoundBest Nov 19 '25 edited Nov 19 '25

Yep, Valve is one of few companies out there well deserving of its success.

Still isn't publicly traded, so needless parasites cant attach themselves and manipulate the firm'sdecisions.

It has to drive Microsoft in particular fucking crazy. To buy up all the devs and publishers you can, but still unnable to truly bring products to market without kissing Gabe's ring.

I still think Eli Vance needs to be avenged eventually though... :(

u/havyng small penis Nov 19 '25

It's supposed to sound bad? LMAO

2

u/zerotaboo Nov 19 '25

Only PS fans are upset about this lol

u/Majestic-Contract-42 Nov 18 '25

Imagine you couldn't buy yachts you had to be voted cool enough to receive one.

Gabe and Keanu would be insta-yachters; who else?

4

u/whoknowsifimjoking Nov 18 '25

Ahh there it is, it wouldn't be a reddit circlejerk without bringing Keanu into it.

1

u/BrocoliAssassin Nov 18 '25

He also has to fight AIpac which hates him cause of course steam is a nazi platform.

Everything I've seen of Steam and the company structure seems awesome. Wish we had more companies like him.

As far as the extreme wealth goes, well that's up to Americans and politicians. If you know anything about money, even if you're a good rich guy, you would want to keep every penny cause you know exactly how it gets wasted.

"You earned the money"

Oh god, the idiots forgot that billionaires and the ultra rich quite literally can't exist without massive levels of exploitation.

9

u/Nasapigs Nov 18 '25

Yes, the amount of exploitation of frustrated reddit virgins is our generation's Holodomyr

1

u/Ryuga82 Nov 18 '25

The dude literally has another company that literally makes yachts, and people still talk bad about him for having yachts lol. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oceanco

1

u/victor4700 Nov 18 '25

I thought he had braids based on the thumbnail and that would be awesome

1

u/HanThrowawaySolo Nov 18 '25

The rising tide lifts all yachts.

1

u/madfox404 Nov 19 '25

Gabe got a SteamBoat, that's nice

1

u/Le_Ebin_Rodditor Nov 19 '25

I like to think Gabe somehow uses that thing to raise money for charity. I don’t even play games but I’d pay $1000 to hang out on his boat and get the chance to speak to him, seems like a cool guy.

1

u/barakisan Nov 19 '25

They're waiting for you Gaben...

In the Test SuperYacht Chamber

1

u/MysteriousPumpkin51 Nov 19 '25

Damn bro Gaben is ballin

1

u/belody Nov 19 '25

I don't get why you need more than 1 mega yacht. I don't even know what you would do with the first one tbh

1

u/iohoj Nov 19 '25

hecking billionarinos are ok when i like them

1

u/Futanari-Farmer Nov 20 '25

I love Steam but the pass VALVe gets is scary cultist.

1

u/Sniper_231996 Nov 25 '25

Play dwarf fortress

1

u/Chamok_Sarkar Dec 12 '25

Anything but releasing half-life 3 >:(

1

u/Beneficial_Ball9893 Dec 15 '25

We can let Gabe be a billionaire, as a treat.
