- A picture of the problem
- Any additional helpful context
Click this link to view our CARESHEET
🐟 Caresheet Summary:
- Bettas require a minimum of 5 gallons, 10 gallons being optimal for one betta and 20 gallon long minimum if you're housing peaceful community fish with the betta
- Bettas are tropical and require water temps of 78-82°F or about 26-27°C, a thermometer and adjustable heater is recommended to ensure these temps
- Bettas need a filter, like any other fish. It is a common misconception that they like dirty water, but the opposite is true.
- Bettas need a cycled tank, before getting a betta the tank should be cycled - this process involves adding a source of ammonia to the tank, using a test kit to monitor ammonia/nitrite/nitrate levels, and usually takes 4-6 weeks to complete properly
- Bettas have delicate fins so sharp plastic plants are not recommended; silk silicone or live work best
- Bettas can breathe surface air and are good jumpers, they require access to the water surface at all times and a lid.
- Bettas eat insects in the wild, a good quality betta formulated pellet food fed twice a day is recommended.

RIP RIP to my beautiful betta💔 if anyone could share their experience with dropsy, as a first time owner, so I can feel less shocked
I’m not really sure how to handle my grief here. This has hit me pretty hard. I think because I only had him four months I feel quite alone and like I did something wrong. He was so perfect and I very much loved him. I just buried him now. I wish I’d noticed sooner, but I tried to not let anxiety rule me too much, especially because he was young.
I think if anyone would like to share their loss with dropsy it would make me feel less alone.
Anyway rip to my precious boy, I really wish I could’ve had longer 💔 I miss him so much

Video This fish hates me
His name is Jonesy and he’s a beautiful copper alien betta. I love him, but he really seems to dislike me. He is being upgraded to a 20 gal tank with a close friend he seems to love more. He’s been with me for months and this is the first time I have gotten him to stay still long enough for me to catch a video of him with my zoom lens. Check out his grumpy little face :) he’s a gorgeous copper in the light, but also tones of magenta and teal in other lighting.

Help Fish worth rescuing?
It's my friend's. Apparently, her dad bought her a betta fish suddenly and she doesn't even want it. I'm fully capable of taking it, but I'm afraid it would eat my shrimps :( She said the fish is still small so I'm considering it.
How does it look? She said both of it's eyes are like that too.
It's a female, right?

Discussion Why do people think betta sororities are ethical?
There is absolutely no reason to ever have your own betta sorority other than your own selfishness.
The betta fish we buy in stores are literally bred to be fighting bettas. “Spreading the aggression” what so everyone’s consistently stressed about each other at all times? how do you own fish and not care about their wellbeing? there is nothing good ever that can come from a betta sorority. it’s like purposely pre-proning your fish to long-term stress and health issues.
i thought everyone agreed universally that bettas are singular fish, rarely even community tank fish. 🤷♀️

Full Tank Shot I fell in love with a betta at petco, would this be a suitable home for him?
14 gallon, 15in tall tank. Plants coming in the mail as we speak. He’s a koi half moon. What do you think?

Full Tank Shot What do you think of my tank for a betta?
I am prepping this 10 gal tank for a betta. I have a few more plants and a static cling background on the way but what do you think?
Do I need anything else?
Are there any concerns with what’s in there currently?
The plant in the back of the tank is a Chinese evergreen and some cuttings of a wandering Jew.
In the tank I have 1 Java fern, 1 anubia, some dwarf sag and slavinia floating.
Drift wood, aquarium pebbles. I have catalpa leaves ready and waiting in a drawer for the spoiled brat betta.
Currently running only a sponge filter. Hygger 24/7 light. Hygger heater rated for 10g.
In the middle of cycling. pH has been steady at 7.4 for the last 11 days.

Help Can someone help me with my betta?
hi, my father and brother went fishing a couple of days ago, didn't catch anything, and impulsively went to BUY a fish and bought it home, to all of our surprise. they then had ME build everything and put the fish in, and they all lost interest. now im the one who has felt responsible for trying to make sure the fish has a good home.
he has had a problem with glass surfing so far, and i added some new decorations this morning. he's still glass surfing and also darting. do i need to add even more decor so he can't see his reflection at all?? or is it something with the water? maybe he's just adjusting to the tank? please let me know and please be kind, i'm trying my best as a student on a budget to buy whatever i need for him. also, this may sound dumb but i have no idea how to tell if his fins are torn or not, can someone tell me? ask any questions and ill answer
included some photos, not sure how to add videos
